If that's how the final product turns out, my guess is Apple wants the inner, folding display to be all-display, with no cutouts, as a second "wow" factor in addition to the fact that the display folds. Not having the Face ID module would make it easier for Apple to do this, since the only camera for which new display technology would be needed to fit an optical element under the display, is the RGB (visible light/selfie) camera. The Face ID dot projector is the hardest of all three (the other being the IR camera to read the IR dots) to fit under the display layer without compromising its function. So maybe I missed it, but the inner display camera is under the screen but the outer display is a hole punch?
Why not make them both under displays? (Wonder if its cost, if it is, why make one over the other?)
Interesting...which then makes me wonder...if the Face ID components truly have a hard time scaling (cost and component) to other systems? If that's how the final product turns out, my guess is Apple wants the inner, folding display to be all-display, with no cutouts, as a second "wow" factor in addition to the fact that the display folds. Placing the outer display's RGB camera under that display would probably add more cost than Apple wants to incur, since it would require the same new (more expensive) under-display technology as is rumored Apple might use for the inner display.
Can’t we all just get along?Sorry for making you correct my priorities.
Apple’s site offers 24-month 0% financing for iPhones but 12-month financing for iPads. Which will apply to this?
If Apple brings out the rumored Apple Glasses, and that device has a telephoto 15X lens, then none would be needed in the iphone fold , and my God Louizee-May I’m sold!!
This device sounds less and less appealing. Volume buttons at the top - on a phone? Thanks, but no thanks. The rest of the device would be rrrreally amazing and the price would have to be closer to 1ke than 2ke for me to even take a second look with the information I've seen so far. Just too many compromises. And no, it doesn't matter they might not be able to cram all that into the device - why should I care? It doesn't change what I need from my phone, and if the device doesn't deliver there's no reason for me to buy one. I'll just buy a regular one. Or turn to the dark side and buy a Galaxy Fold or something.
