Everyone here is forgetting that Apple compromises on version 1.0 products on purpose.

V2 - Three cameras!
V3 - Now with Face ID!
V4 - LIDAR sensor!

They do this because we’re all suckers and it works.

Samsung and others jam as much in as they can because that’s what they have to do to have marketing advantages against Apple.
I was about to post something very similar to this. You are so right! That's why I usually refrain from buying first gen anything. The only time I did buy something first gen was the iPad because it was just a giant iPhone lol

Folded the size of an iPhone mini and then opens to the size of an iPad mini? Take my money.
Weight of an iPad mini in my pocket for something I'd use folded likely 80-90% of the time? I'll keep my money. :)

It is really important that the folded experience not differ too dramatically from any other iPhone. Despite people's desire for phone and tablet in one device, the phone part is way more important, and needs to be a close to what using an iPhone is already like. If this part is heavily compromised just to achieve the unfolded experience, it will turn off a lot of users and lead to returns.

I for one would be ok without front screen at all — just the internal screen.

I am more interested with the camera performance. If it is 20% difference max with the latest Pro Max, sure. If beyond that. PASS!

For any doubters about foldable phones, I recently changed my Pixel 9 Pro for a Pixel 10 Pro Fold and I love it.

I travel with work and spend time in hotels, and the ability to open it up and watch movies on a larger screen is so useful.
You can see the crease if you look, especially when the screen is off, but once it's on and you're watching a movie you don't notice it.

I love it so far and I'm absolutely certain Apple's implementation will be an improvement.

It'll come down to cost, I managed to get mine for £875 which was too good a deal to miss.
Recently. How about durability with those things?
A Pro Max can take anything thrown at it and keep on ticking.
I’m not babysitting a stupid phone.

I'll wait until they manage to put faceID in it. Without the faceID, the only (and major) advantage for staying in iOS disappears. If Apple can't put the faceID by next year, I will probably just switch to the Galaxy Fold.

With all due respect to the MacRumors team, I believe rumours should be clearly identified in the title of the article, not just in the body copy.

The details have not been "revealed"; these are speculations, assumptions, claims, or plain old guesses. They are not revealed until Apple is the primary source. I'm fine with rumours, but they should be clearly presented as such, in my view.

This is far from the first time rumour has been presented as fact in this site's article titles.

Interesting if they actually manage to achieve a durable scratch resistant 'crease-free' display. I'm skeptical.

I personally don't like folding screens anyway. To me a phone is for accessing quick information in a compact discrete form factor. Having to unfold the damn thing every time you use it is just adding an annoying extra step. I don't like wallet cases for the same reason. I don't want my phone to be a mini tablet, even if it can fold up and fit in my pocket.

To be honest we are all stuck to our phones too much as it is. If Apple really cared about the world in the way they pretend to, they would invent 'methaphone' to treat the addiction and bring socialising back into fashion.
One does not need to unfold it to use it. You can use the external display for all iOS optimized tasks and unfold for all iPadOS optimized tasks. If one doesn’t need the added benefit of iPadOS then this device is not for your use case.

Apple's new strategy: Launch a new expensive product that doesn't sell every year!
2024: Vision Pro
2025: iPhone Air
2026: iPhone Fold?
Most of the product category is matured enough like iPhone, laptops and desktops that releasing a new one every year is to satisfy the shareholders. In the early days of tech it made sense as there was a lot of runway but now as we get better upgrades it lasts for two or more years.

I’m so used to a Pro Max screen that the smaller outer screen of current foldables feels too confining. A foldable would only make sense to me if I needed the iPad mini sized interior more often. I prefer driving mostly with one hand so losing the extra real estate for most of my usage makes this less appealing.

But man, I get the appeal. I would love to need a device like this. It will fit other people’s usage for sure.
The taller aspect ration screen has always seemed weird to me but it was a design decision due to hardware and OS limitations. Pockets aren’t getting deeper.

dual camera will be a deal breaker, at least for me.

while the competition can cramp in 3 cameras, I'm a bit surprised Apple wouldn't, especially at this expected price point.
If it is dual camera, I hope the second is a telephoto that way it differentiate it from the basic iPhone model for optical image capture.

I will probably be using the outside screen while on the go most of the time, as such 5.5" will not work for me.... Way too small

you just know, though....
leaks and 100 repeated stories on rumour sites....
This is gong to be 'Apple expensive' and I dont seem them undercutting Samsung or other premium foldable at all - instead as usual it will be probably priced above anything weve seen so far.

Im expecting much closer to £2,000 if not more.

Then I just don’t see it working.

I think Apple has a unique form factor here which is smaller than the competition. And value wise you’ll be getting a ‘regular’ iPhone (2 cameras, non-pro chip etc) and unfolded a smaller iPad mini. Combining the cost of purchasing the devices separately you end up around the £1300 price point.

To me this seems to be the perfect way to enter this market in a big way.

If it’s £2000 then you’ll have another Vison Pro style niche device, heck for that price I could almost get a regular iPhone, iPad mini and a MacBook.

If this monster is true, wait until people opened it up and closed it many times a day for some days and then they go back to a regular iPhone. Why can´t Apple just make a Mini for us who want a smaller iPhone and those Pro super size XL Extra ones for those who want bigger ones? This combo is not going to be good for anyone.
Because there just aren't enough of you unfortunately. They made the mini remember? Sales were abysmal
