Mac Pro cannot power 5k display with weak Display Port 1.2.

No mac can power 5k so ZERO chance of 5k Thunderbolt display coming.

:apple:

I bet they'll just come up with a 2 TB to 1 TB adapter and let the Mac Pro run a 5K monitor.

I need to go to an Apple store soon to check this out. I haven't even seen the new mac pro or iphones in person either.

----------

So where's the 5k Apple monitor for the Mac Pro?

I'm sure it'll come once they can yield more displays and get the prices down.

Looks very tempting. Must resist, must resist!

Agreed, very tempting. I hope I'll manage to hold out at least until second generation (I really would love and have use for retina iMac (I'm a graphic designer), but I already have a very decent MBP + Thunderbolt Display setup, so I'm not in a hurry).

I'm also worried about that screen reflection. That is one thing I hate about my Thunderbolt Display. I know the current iMacs are less reflective, but this new one seems back to the levels ot TBD.

You guys are a bit overboard if you want this as average consumers. For professional video and photography editing, sure, but there is absolutely no other content that will look good on this screen for a long time to come.

OS X looks good. Just pages, numbers, keynote, everything! Look at maps in 5k! Just everyday stuff will be much better.

If only they managed to put dp/hdmi input to that screen(imac).

Still I have to wonder:
"Strongest lineup of products that Apple has ever had."

Meaning: Days since last release:

AppleTV 953 days
Apple Display 1127 days
Smaller iMac 387 days
Airport Express c. 850 days

No matte = no go ;(

Still have to stay on an old 23" Cinema Display which is 4 cm thick (wow, 8 times more than the current iMac and there is no computer inside!).

I have a new iMac, and compared to my NEC Spectraview its still a mirror.

Ever wondered what all the magnificent things you could do with that tremendous space in the middle of air your display is wasting? ;)

Yeah, a mac with a screen with just the price of a screen sounded tempting, but then I remembered how much I hate Apple's reflective screens...

DAMN, this display is gorgeous. I hope the TB update is right around the corner.
I don't get why Apple hasn't announce it today. If the iMac is $2.5k, the TB 5K should cost $2k.

What still no BluRay drive ;)

Love the fact this new 5k iMac has 4x the pixels of my 2012 iMac. Wish I could afford the upgrade but right now my thin 27" iMac is working like new and later today I'm put on Yosemite which will make it even better.

Cool!

Now bring on the new Thunderbolt Displays!
Funny how Apple is telling us on their "displays" page:
"Introducing the worlds first Thunderbolt display."
Almost 4 years of introducing and will it also be the last?
Was Steve still alive then...?

I've used my bdxl-burner with my macs now 3 years and those bd-movies still have the best looks!

given the problems rMBP consumers had.

I had an issue with the video card that still appears sometimes, but I got the logic board replaced. Not a huge deal. I've had this thing since it's released I don't regret it. Not sure what "problems" you're referring to specifically. This junk about Apple's first revision products having problems is a fallacy.

I want and need this in my life. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with my specced out 2011 iMac. Guess I'll wait to see how the screens fare given the problems rMBP consumers had.

Right there with you with my 2011 iMac. I also will assume that there will be teething problems on this technology for a generation. It will make me less envious of this.

I really shouldn't upgrade my iMac for another two years. It works great. But oh that is so long from now!

But did they fix the uneven white/yellow tints that have plagued all their products from Macbooks, to iphones, to ipads?

I don't know, I've never heard of that problem. What's kinda sad is that this thing has a ridiculously nice display, a 4.0GHz i7 option, 32GB of RAM, ... and a laptop GPU.

"the machine’s internals are going to feel their age much faster than the display itself will"

For such an expensive device where the screen forms such a large part of the price? Even more so than a laptop?

Engadget says that the new 27-inch iMac has a "stunning display" with great viewing angles, and was left impressed with the all-in-one's image quality even at a resolution of 5120 x 2880.

They say that as if they are surprised. Like they're implying that 5120x2880 is low or something.

That display is incredible :eek::eek:

Good choice to go with the AMD R9 M290X and R9 M295X GPUs, now Apple's entire new line is moving to AMD GPUs.

Apple never bets on a dark horse, which means AMD's roadmap in GPUs looks rosy indeed.

Apple is moving to an exclusive AMD/Intel combo for it's desktops and probably laptops as well.

Yeah, these new chips got plenty of power(GPU) Almost 3.5 teraflops of GPU power With the GCN architecture
