First Hands-On With iPhone 12 MagSafe Leather Cases Shared Online

The first hands-on video and images of Apple's iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro leather cases have been shared online by German site Macerkopf.

The video and images were reportedly sent to Macerkopf by a reader who obtained a selection of cases early. One case for each of the three device sizes, encompassing the iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 mini, are shown in Black and Saddle Brown.

The cases appear to be mostly similar to Apple's leather cases from previous years, with metal buttons and a soft-touch interior, but with the exception of a ring on the inside of the case to indicate MagSafe's array of magnets. The leather cases also seem to fully cover the bottom of the device like Apple's new silicone cases for added protection.

Although Apple's clear and silicone cases for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have been on sale for some time, the leather cases have not yet been made available to customers.

Apple's full selection of leather cases with MagSafe for the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available from this Friday, alongside pre-orders of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Seeing as the silicone case for the iPhone mini is €54 ($63) in my country, I shudder to think what the leather cases will cost. Greed is alive and well in Cupertino.

I thought about the Mini, but just looking at the cases together has changed my mind. The standard 12 is the goldilocks phone this year. It's shame it didn't get the Max camera.

I returned my silicone case in anticipation of the leather cases. Planning to order one on Friday along with a hompod mini.

But how are you meant to use CarPlay on the majority of vehicles which do not yet have bluetooth sync ? I like the apple leather cases and have had them for lots of my phones, but I guess it's time to go elsewhere. To purchase a third party bluetooth sync for CarPlay, MagSafe, and case as well as a new phone is a very expensive ask.

Anybody got a recommendation for a decent leather case that's still open on the bottom? I haven't used any cases other than Apple's leather ones up until now.

I know it won’t happen, but I wish they’d offer “fun” colors for their leather cases. I like the quality and feel of a leather case but these earth tones are always so boring.

i am the opposite. I am glad they finally closed it completely. That’s where all the crap got in on my 7 Plus and XS Max scratching it across the lower half of the back

no idea. All my iPhone got scratches at the lower half from crap getting inside and nicely moving up and down between phone and case. Couldn’t be happier they finally changed it
