weird the mini and regular/12 pro are different shades of saddle brown

Are these the only colors that will be released this Friday?

I was hoping for a cool matching pacific blue or a new shade of green
I am assuming that 4 of the colours will be the same as the MagSafe Leather Wallet plus a couple of other colours.

Are these leather cases the ones Apple specifically warned could pick up marks from magnetic contact pressure from the charger?

Seeing as the silicone case for the iPhone mini is €54 ($63) in my country, I shudder to think what the leather cases will cost. Greed in alive and well in Cupertino.
Versus €18 (guessing) for a cheap, faux leather knock-off that doesn't age like real leather? I still fondly remember my Nomad case from several iPhones ago that gave up the ghost after serving faithfully for a few years that changed appearance over time as it was used and abused.

Wonder how long 'til it looks like you've been carrying around a tin of Redman?

Agreed. There’s been the Control Centre swipe from the top right-hand corner for years, and not once was I ever bothered with the case’s lip interfering in any way.
For people who hold their phone with their pinky under the bottom of the phone, the bottom lip definitely gets in the way of your thumb doing the “swipe up” gesture.

The “swipe down” for Notification Center / Control Center are not affected by the lip because you’re swiping from the top edge of the screen downwards with no case to get in the way.

I’ve owned the X, XS, and 11 Pro with Apple Leather cases. I used my SO’s 12 with the Apple silicon case for 20 minutes and came to the conclusion that the bottom lip would drive me insane.

Damn. A closed bottom. That really blows.

Anybody got a recommendation for a decent leather case that's still open on the bottom? I haven't used any cases other than Apple's leather ones up until now.

Mujjo

Not 100% sure they all are MagSafe-safe.

I also prefer a cutout for swiping.

Looks great. Why are people objecting to the closed bottom? I think it will protect the phone more.

I've run into many plugs than simply don't fit, e.g. on music docks, public charging stations, borrowed cables.
So you have to take the phone out, which is annoying (and obviously doesn't protect at all).

Hard to tell how big the cutouts are here, though.

This is exactly why I preferred the Apple cases in the past; easiness of connection to docks and other cables.

Also, the speakers are not confined to those.

My experience with Silicon is that they age very quickly and they attract a lot of lint.
The leather ones, also age quickly; and with that Pacific Blue, I just want a clear case. I guess I'll go for a cheap Spigen

Last week or so, I purchased a URBN ARMY GEAR case. But, I usual use an Apple leather case, too.
So, I will have to purchase one of these, too.

Wish the lip didn’t go around the bottom.

I'm puzzled about this and can't go to a store in person to check the Apple silicone cases, which have the same design (stores are closed here).

I went with an Otterbox case until the Apple leather cases become available, and the Otterbox designs don't have a lip around the cameras.

Do the Apple cases lie flat or is there a wobble?

(In case anyone wonders: the otterbox case is fine as a case, but I don't care for its texture and the buttons aren't great.)

I find it easier/more intuitive to perform the various gestures (swiping up, side-to-side, etc) with an open bottom. I had the official leather case on my XS for two years with an open bottom and it was great.
I agree 100%. In addition to that it helped me know the correct way to hold my XS. Now when I take my 12 Pro out of my pocket its upside down 1/2 the time. I may modify my leather case somehow when I get it.

Earlier this year, my XS hit the ground at the exact angle where the bezel ends and the screen starts on the bottom lip, uncovered by the leather case. No cracks, but it caused about 1/4 of my screen to die, which warranted a full display replacement ($$$) in Apple’s eyes—although several people I spoke to diagnosed it as most likely being a dislodged display connector and nothing more. (I never went through with the repair on account of stubbornness.)

This long-winded story is to say that I rejoiced when I saw that the leather cases cover the bottom lip this year.

How is Apple all about being environmentally friendly and sells real leather products?! That's ridiculous 🤦

Not sure I follow... Cattle farming volume is driven by meat consumption not leather usage. So why not use the hides which would otherwise be wasted? Effectively a renewable resource, in contrast to the non-renewable petroleum needed for faux leather.

Tanning can also be eco-friendly - not sure if Apple requires suppliers use those processes or not, so I wouldn't make an assumption there.

So, if the wallet is $59... what are these going to cost?

I figured it'd be $10 more than the usual price of $49 since the silicone cases are $10 more too... but thinking that the wallet and a leather case would cost the same I'm doubtful.

Are these going to be avaliable for the 12 pro max Friday or just Pre-order Friday?

....still waiting for vegan leather....

Unfortunately, vegans have such terrible skin that its hard to get enough quality hide from them.

...Did you want them to only replace 1/4 of the screen?
