Looks great. Why are people objecting to the closed bottom? I think it will protect the phone more.
It slightly affects the 'feel' of the up-swipe motion when using the phone. When the bottom part of the case is open, there is a smoother feel to the up-swipe. When there is a raised lip at the bottom, following the other three sides, it feels less smooth and very occasionally misses, when you haven't swiped from the very bottom.

A VERY minor quibble, but I think that's the reason for liking the open bottom.

I wish they didn’t cost a kidney. I actually like cases more when they include a bottom lip.
The problem is that it interferes with the feel of an up swipe. And, if your phone is sitting face up as mine usually is e.g. on a wireless charging mat, at a glance you can't see which end is the top. I'm using a closed-bottomed silicone case on my 12P and I pick it up with the notch on the bottom because of this. Yes, you can look at the sides, take a beat to discern where the buttons are, do the mental math, etc. But with an open bottom it's so obvious that you never pick it up upside down.

+1
Is there a 12/12 Pro case with an open bottom?
Not that I've found yet, but am still looking. Hopefully some will hit the market.

...I'm actually happy that it does - provides that added protection.
I had Apple branded cases with open bottoms on my last 3 phones. Never had an issue and I drop my phone enough to know.

i am the opposite. I am glad they finally closed it completely. That’s where all the crap got in on my 7 Plus and XS Max scratching it across the lower half of the back
It's a YMMV situation obviously. Never once had an issue with the open bottom Apple cases on my previous phones.

See above. Never had an issue with open bottom Apple cases.

With Touch ID having the bottom lip monkeys with the unlocking of the phone. Can people adjust to this over time? Sure, but we're re-training muscle memory so its going to be more annoying than not for some period of time.

Will it protect the phone more? I'm sure to some extent. But I've had Apple's leather case with the open bottom for years and have dropped my phone a bunch of times on concrete, hardwood and asphalt and its been fine. There is bottom of the phone protection on those cases, it just doesn't span the whole phone.

I prefer the leather over the plastic cases mainly because they age so nicely. Becoming vintage over time. Anyhow this adds another level of complexity in choosing the right phone color. I am down to black or white.... choices....

So those are the ones that will get a circle patch when charged with that "MagSafe" thing? Great job Apple, great product design!

I can see the bottom lip also interfering with reachability, not that many people care or use that, but it’s a tougher gesture to register than swipe up.

Top to bottom swipes and side swipes are not affected from the current leather cases so I think we’ll be ok. If it doesn’t, that’s why there is a return policy.
Agreed. There’s been the Control Centre swipe from the top right-hand corner for years, and not once was I ever bothered with the case’s lip interfering in any way.

So happy they finally went back to the closed bottom. Never should have changed that in the first place. Have to decide which colors I want to pick up as well.

weird the mini and regular/12 pro are different shades of saddle brown

Are these the only colors that will be released this Friday?

I was hoping for a cool matching pacific blue or a new shade of green

They look nice, but I prefer the silicone case. The non-slip material is so much better in regular use. Leather is too slippery.

I think many people prefer the open bottom because the lip at the bottom interferes with the upward swipe.

Not sure its a minor quibble, I tried the one my wife has and was definitely unhappy with the need to mush your finger into the bottom to swipe up correctly.
