I can't decide whether I like the sound from my HomePod or Apple TV plus $1000 soundbar. It depends on the music/voice track playing.
I will say podcasts come through very clearly, which means I won't have to wear headphones at home at all.

Collecting from the store this morning, I noticed a lot of questions from the staff member about why I was buying it. He also wanted me to test it out.
It's a very new product.

But if you had two synced together would it sound better? (Obviously the software update is required)

I also had similar questions at the Apple store in Adelaide. I guess their trying to find out what people uses are so they can tailor their software. They said the guy before me plans to use his for a soundbar replacement. Which is what I also plan to do.

I never understood this way of thinkng. Them getting it first has zero effect on when we get it here in the US. As long as you get yours when you are supposed to, why would you care when others get theirs? It is the exact same product, it is not like the first 1000 users are getting some "unique version".

“What about me, me, me, me, MEEEEEEE!!!!!!”

Maybe a free 3 months of Apple Music with a Homepod. But you aren't going to get a $350 speaker for free for a $120 subscription.

Hey, you’re good at math! I like you.

I think so and a bonus for me is that I only need one HomePod because it will sync with my existing Apple TV.

I don't care about watching TV but having music playing in the living room and moving the HomePod to my courtyard will be good people when are over.

So are we able to set alarms with Apple Music songs/playlists/stations?

No. Hopefully they'll bring it in.

I have an automation set up in the Home app to turn my lights on in the morning. All they have to do is add the HomePod as an option there.

so....does this thing actually do anything that siri on my phone cant?

seems like the big focus on this thing is just as a music player, and only from a streaming source at that.

Yea well, I guess the only advantage is that it can control HomeKit products while you’re away. Like an Apple TV. That’s about it. Pretty underwhelmed because of the fact that they didn’t dramatically enhance Siri with this product.

Very few.

Agreed. To each his own, but in my experience I run my Apple (and formerly NeXT) gear into the ground. Unlike the mountains of other tech that I've tried only to throw on the pile of buyers remorse (e.g. the next great bluetooth speakers that all turned out to be crap, dead end single use novelty things that I can't even remember from over the years).

I welcome another walled garden device into my life. The stuff just works (for my purposes) and I don't have to fight with it. End all be all? Nothing ever is, but functioning in the background with generally few issues is the best I seem to be able to find.

Got mine in Australia today before rafark. The sound is amazing and the ability for Siri to hear my voice even when the music is at full volume is very impressive. I’ve wanted a smart speaker in my bathroom for a long time and I’m very impressed with how it sounds in a challenging space.

I just wish Siri sounded better and was much smarter. Have had a play with a google home mini and it spanks Siri in every way.

I was wondering about the 8AM claim. I was just going to hit up my local store around 9:30 or so to get in line, then saw the reported 8AM opening...

Ross Hill, please showcase a better tune for all of us to hear in your next tweet. Thanks in advance.

Apple should launch in Australia a day later. Their homeland should not be the lastest in receiving their own products. It should be the first one.

I think it should be released on WST, it's not fair that the east coast of AU gets it before the west!

Anyway.

The wait begins!

I’ll pick up mine after work. In about seven hours.
That is nice...don't play it too loud please...some of us in the eastern states will still be asleep. :D I wish it wasn't being delivered by UPS because at my place here in GA it is usually at the end of the day, by them..but FedEx always delivers any packages around noon (I remember Apple used to use FedEx most of the time). I work out of the house so.....oh well. Hope you enjoy it..and still keep the sound down for us over here, again, thx. lol

it will be a good competitor when Siri gets better and it gets the functionality they said they would get, which they don't have installed yet.....
