Huh?

That's absolutely not true at all.

https://www.apple.com/osx/server/

Also they continue to provide support for connecting iOS devices to Exchange servers. Saying they've never been about the business market is just plain silly.

"Been about" meaning a large portion of their business or even a main focus. That $20 server software doesn't seem like a solution for much more than a small business that likely doesn't have full-time IT.

Business has always been a small part of Apple's goals. Constant upgrades and not supporting legacy equipment is a big sign of that.

Are you saying Apple should design their products for a minority of their users?

Huh?

Sooo....

If I have headphones in, they have to come out while I plug a thumb drive in? Which then has to come out if I want to power it? Which has to come out if I want to use the headphones again?

There's a headphone port.

Or get bluetooth.

I like this Macbook, it's crazy forward thinking but that also means it's controversial to some.
The only thing i'm worried about is the new keyboard.

Personally I don't have a use for it now because i'm still happy with my late 2013 rMBP but maybe next year when Cannonlake comes around and a larger version of the new Macbook is released i might get it.

See, here's where you're confusing me.

You're absolutely intent on coming up with excuses as to why they're making their computers harder for businesses and corporations, and easier for consumers. So much that you're basically telling me I shouldn't have purchased an Apple and should be buying something else, like a Windows laptop. You're actively trying to talk me out of continuing to use Apple, so you can continue to stick to this charade.

Yes, I'm telling you that you picked the wrong tool for the job you do.

I like it except for the single do all port, but nothing's perfect for every customer. It will be fun check this out to see what it's like in person. I also wonder if they are going to keep the MBA long term? This new MB will probably be the mainstream consumer model.

What? So only nerds usually buy $1300 computers?

Lol

Computers at that price range are usually only bought by people who need to use them for their business. Saying that "the only people griping about missing feature X are NEERRRDDDS" is short sighted, and missing the point of what the Mac now is in Apple's lineup.

As has been stated here many times before, the average person buys iPhones and iPads. Macs only make up a relatively small portion of Apple's bottom line, and that small portion makes up the more power user oriented percentage of their demographic. If people are complaining that they can't do their job because it's missing an external monitor port or needs more USB ports, Apple should listen, because these are the people buying their laptops.

I never thought I'd hear that from an Apple fan after being told for years and years that there's nothing that a Windows computer can do that Mac computer can't also do.

I suppose there is after all.

having just looked at the specs for the new MBA's I think they are slotting them in a weird space in the line-up at the moment, it confuses me that the MBA is higher spec yet cheaper (Which actually makes it more tempting for me). The only real difference is the retina display which goes a long way explaining that, but I think you are right, it looks like this will replace the MBA.

Oh, there's definitely one thing Apple can't do that Windows definitely can:

Cling to legacy devices and processes.

That was not the point at all the poster was making. It's certainly not how I read it.

Where'd all my ports go?

Gold with no ports is kind of useless to me.

screen real-estate

Am I the only one who thinks this will be quite a useless display for any kind of productivity or web browsing?

The desktop will be the equivalent of 1152x720..
Take away a few pix for the dock and the menubar and you have something like 600? pix left in hight..

Scroll, scroll, scroll your screen gentle down the stream.. :)

I'm thinking it will. I'm thinking Apple is going to consolidate their lineup with two laptops: The 12" Macbook, and the 15" Macbook Pro. It's what they're doing with everything else they make, so it makes sense they're doing it here as well.

Dude, one port on a laptop is inexcusable. I don't care how thin it is, I care how functional it is. Especially for a device that costs more than the 13" Retina MBP. This should not exist, this is an absolute disgrace as an Apple product.

If this device was, say, 600-800 dollars, I wouldn't mind. But it's not. This device is absolutely useless from any perspective you look at it.

Useless for your needs.

This is a perfect device for many. Try finding a similar laptop with a trackpad as nice as apple makes. Everything is delivered as a service these days in businesses who are up to date. Only thing lacking in this is more battery life.

Not a 12" MB, 13" Air, 15" Pro?

Except for that one guy who needs CD drives to make ISOs.

Nerds love to think their technology needs represent the needs of the public. They usually do not.

Can I requote this? Because this is very true in this forum. Especially in Watch threads.

Probably not. Apple looks like they're going for a little-big selection with all their devices.

Like right now, we have the iPhone 6 and 6+. Since the 6+ kinda overlaps with the iPad Mini, which Apple is all but letting wither on the vine, I'm pretty sure they're going to nix it, and go with the iPad and the rumored iPad Pro. iMacs are the same way. 21" and 27" are your two choices there. A little Macbook, and a bigger Macbook Pro make sense when you consider it alongside everything else.
