If people are complaining that they can't do their job because it's missing an external monitor port or needs more USB ports, Apple should listen, because these are the people buying their laptops.

99% of the people on here complaining about how it will affect them won't be buying one anyway. The fact is, this computer doesn't need more ports, the people who need it for its other features just have to accept the fact. Most people don't really plug things into their laptops anymore, they do everything over wifi, those of us who do will avoid this computer and get the next gen rMBP.

I just came to see the idiots complaining it's too thin, too underpowered, or not enough ports. :D

If only Apple had an alternative, a slightly thicker model with more ports, or an even bigger model with even more power and ports. Alas, no, we will all be forced to buy this one...

For me the one thing I can't get past is the thin keys.

Was the Air not already thin enough? Ok make it lighter, but thinner? At the expense of comfortable typing??

I like it so much but does Apple not realize that people still type on these things and not everything is done on the trackpad.

Deal breaker. Like the butterfly design though, but the depth of the key is a huge problem.

Sorry but this new Macbook isnt for me, Once again Apple is sacrificing features and usability for thinness.

1. Keyboard shouldn't be so shallow

2. USB C is cool, but why only 1? What if I want to charge my Macbook and have a usb in too?

3. Not a fan of the "non clicking" trackpad.

4. Worse battery than Macbook Air

5. Core M is VERY slow

6. Over-priced

Yeesh

Probably not. Apple looks like they're going for a little-big selection with all their devices.

Like right now, we have the iPhone 6 and 6+. Since the 6+ kinda overlaps with the iPad Mini, which Apple is all but letting wither on the vine, I'm pretty sure they're going to replace it, and go with the iPad and the rumored iPad Pro. iMacs are the same way. 21" and 27" are your two choices there. A little Macbook, and a bigger Macbook Pro make sense when you consider it alongside everything else.

Frustrating in my case (have long had a 13" model), but I suppose it makes sense.

I like it except for the single do all port, but nothing's perfect for every customer. It will be fun check this out to see what it's like in person. I also wonder if they are going to keep the MBA long term? This new MB will probably be the mainstream consumer model.

I agree completely. In fact it makes me feel like I did when the first Air came out "Wow. That thing is beautiful. Not sure if I can live with no optical drive etc and its so expensive." Now it's: "Wow that thing is so beautiful. Not sure if I can live with one port." (At least its not so expensive).

My daily machine is an MBA 13" and I use both USB most of the time and often want a third (don't think I've ever wanted a 4th) so this machine would not be for me at the moment. I have the iPhone plugged in most of the time because USB tethering is more reliable (for me anyway) than wifi tethering and I have a slimline USB thumb drive almost permanently plugged in on the other side as expansion. I plug in a SD card almost daily for a quick automated SuperDuper of my most important work files (Time Machine runs at home when I remember to plug the MBA in). I should add that I have had it over three years and have only wanted an optical drive about once a year.

Things will change. Maybe they'll build inductive charging into future models, wifi and bluetooth will continue to get better and eventually we'll be perfectly happy with one or no ports.

This thing has just out-aired the Air so I have no doubts that the Air is being shown the door. I mean, the name is now an anachronism when compared to the new MacBook.

PS: I'd rather have two USB-C ports and have to use an adapter when I want to use headphones.

1. Says who?
2. Buy an adapter.
3. Okay, but a lot of us are and it's awesome.
4. Barely.
5. Totally depends on what you're doing.
6. As compared to...what?

I'm thinking it will. I'm thinking Apple is going to consolidate their lineup with two laptops: The 12" Macbook, and the 15" Macbook Pro. It's what they're doing with everything else they make, so it makes sense they're doing it here as well.

Yes, if you think about it, calling a laptop Air and then have it weigh more than its namesake that isn't called Air seems odd :)

I could also see them introducing a Macbook 14" and keep the 13" Pro alongside the 15" Pro. I don't think the Air 11" was ever really popular (Could be wrong of course).

I do believe there is a market for a smaller Pro, especially one with more ports! I used to work with a lot of coders/graphics/3D modelling guys and they all used MB Pro's as their portable workstations, I think Apple would feel it if they lost that market.

Oh, there's definitely one thing Apple can't do that Windows definitely can:

Cling to legacy devices and processes.

I still find it funny (and scary) that Apple's PR has managed to convince you that optical media and ethernet are now considered legacy.

That's some powerful PR right there. Almost to a brainwashing degree.

i only need usb when at work (music keyboard, audio interface, external drives)...and already have a hub for that. so the usb c dongle should work fine with the hub.

otherwise...am loving the look, design of this. but i won't make any final judgements until i SEE it, try it out. i want to base my final thoughts on it (or, for that matter, anything) AFTER i've actually used it).

If they had just included a touchscreen, this would have been a great alternative to the rumoured "iPad Pro"

Scary? Have you noticed how nearly every new consumer thing is wireless now? Do you see many new items coming out touting 64x read and super-fast wired internet?

I get why you need those things, it's job security. But for those of us not tied to legacy equipment, they are relics of that past.

How's the ethernet port on your MBP doing? Have you used that a bunch lately?

Why would you want to touch the screen? Isn't that a super awkward movement at that angle?

You're right. Except they haven't given the Air a retina display. Most (sensible) folk probably wouldn't be complaining if the Air had also received a retina (and maybe the new trackpad) but then how would Apple differentiate these products?

Hope so

It's not the end of the world. A 12" Retina display is a good compromise between the 11" and 13". Provided the screen is geared more towards 1440x900, like the 13" Air is, you probably won't have any trouble using it, despite it being an inch smaller.

Definitely hope so, because I had the 11" for a year and wasn't a huge fan.

Definitely agree there. Shallow keystrokes are awful for extended typing.

I've noticed that about 95% of laptops released to this day still include both ethernet ports and optical drives. That's quite a big percentage of current machines to carry so-called "legacy" technology.

Apple surely must know something that the other 95% of the computer world doesn't. There's no other explanation. ;)

You're going to have to explain this one. How exactly would it be an iPad alternative without a touch-enabled operating system?

Okay...?

Why don't you have one of those?

You think Apple would be better off following everyone else?

The opposite has worked pretty well in the past.

What are you trying to convince me here?

cuz, man!

You're going to have to explain this one. How exactly would it be an iPad alternative without a touch-enabled operating system?

Because touching screens is cool because I saw a guy do it once.
