I've never played any game on my iPhone, but... are iPhone games on par with Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita? I've seen these 2 consoles and they're pretty impressive actually :)

"Despite these negatives, he declared it an important step forward in iOS gaming. "

How?? He basically called it a major POS, which it apparently is.

First I am glad they came out with a controller... but they failed on execution bad! $100 dollars is just insane for a controller like this. I just saw that it does offer a built in battery that can charge the phone, thats a great feature but I still think its to expensive, namely because it won't work with the iPhone 6 when Apple makes the device larger.. They need to future proof their device more.

This is a big step forward for iOS gaming in the sense that it is now an actual handheld device. The fact that this particular controller sucks nuts is actually quite irrelevant, it's what it represents (a new era in iOS gaming) that's the important part.

The actual quote was, "These are exciting times, and even though the MOGA Ace Power feels like a baby step into the iOS 7 controller world, it's an important one, and I'm glad it's here."

Let's see, new 3rd party game controller standard for iOS devices, first actual device to take advantage of new standard and release to market, games are changing and developers have had to develop to the standard without the aid of an actual device, sounds like some of them got it very wrong (no fault of theirs), but now they have one (with more on the way) they'll update, more developers will then support the standard, more controllers get released, iOS which is a major gaming platform but suffers from being touch-only expands its offerings, you're right, totally unimportant and insignificant. ;-)

Come on, see the big picture here! This is very cool.

Cool controller, I'm debating if I want one like that or a wireless one so I can use it with both my iPad and my iPhone....

But they really should make a version without the battery, my phone has a good enough battery, I'd rather save $10 and a bit of weight

There are only a few games that come close to what you'd get on PSN for Vita. 2K has two AAA games on iDevices, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Civilization Revolution.

No new iDevice games come close to Uncharted: Golden Abyss on Vita or any Nintendo games on 3DS. There are ports of previously successful games like FFIII, GTA III / Vice City or the Monkey Island series when LucasArts redid them a few years ago, but so far, only 2K has dropped AAA games, and those were available on console/PC/Mac for at least a year before they came to iPad.

This is all anecdotal / IMHO. YMMV.

I want one for my iPad. It just needs to be the controller, our Smart Covers, cases, and folios will take care of the standing bit.

And dream on about the Nintendo ports. It's not like they won't price them in the $4.99 to $9.99 range if they ever did it. You're better off just emulating them. Look what happened to Atari, they tried to sell the classic image, and they went bust.

SEGA is doing very well, but only because they're optimizing the games for mobile devices and not just slapping them in containers. It's costing them quite a bit to do so. Heck, they've lost out on Sonic 4 even, and both episodes are amazing.

Being the first release of the first model of the first manufacturer, I'd say "Job well done". As with any new product line, we'll see great improvements over the next few years.

With the amount of work that had to go into this product's development by this and other manufacturers, $100 is a good deal. I can't see any other manufacturer charging much less than that unless they simply hacked a piece of junk together.

Depends on what you call "on par". Graphics getting close, but gameplay(storyline, plot, etc) not a bit...ios games are still games for 8-10years old kids. You just get bored in a few hours. (The only serious game on ios for me is Final Fantasy Tactics port).

Probably things will change with new 64bit architecture. Developers never saw ios devices as a serious gaming devices, so there are almost no PS/Xbox level games. It was just a "killing-time" cheap gaming device before 64bit thing. Changes are coming...We hope...

What you all seem to miss, is that the reason we only have "cheap" games for iOS is that there hasn't been a way an adequate controller for iOS before.

You can't properly game on a device that doesn't have buttons....

Now we have buttons (regardless if this device is any good)...

So now we can have 1st tier games.

Further, comparing a 2DS or 3DS to an iPhone is sad. The processing power that can be unleashed in an iPhone now is leaps and bounds above any portable gaming device by Nintendo. If you were already going to buy an iPhone 5S, now for only $99 you can make it into a full blown portable gaming device with more power than anything Nintendo or Sony has come out with.

Oh c'mon, it looks incredibly awkward. It's like holding two taped Game Gears.

It's like holding an Atari Lynx.

No (IMO), not yet anyway and why I would not buy one of these controllers right now. I play games on my iPhone because they are convenient and can pass any time I need to lose fast.

The controls are not always very good, but then neither are some of the games. The iOS experience gets much better when you are using an iPad.

Adding the bulk of a dedicated hand-held device for me makes no sense. Otherwise, if I wanted a full mobile gaming experience, I would just blow the dust off my old PSP, or buy a Vita and carry that bulk around instead.

However, you cannot beat the conveience and choice of iOS. Not to mention the fast game load times compared to dedicated gaming platforms.

So I can see the appeal, but not if the footprint bulk were comparable.

If Nintendo REALLY wants "nothing to worry about", they should make an iOS controller, then port like ten thousand games to iOS & make WAY more than they have off their last two consoles and with minimal effort.

Porting ten thousand games takes minimal effort? Yeah, about that...

There is absolutely no way I would pay $100 to play games on my iPhone. Screen is too small and games aren't nearly good enough. Wish I could say they were on to something, but I doubt this ever catches on.

You haven't see the games that are going to come out for the A7 chip. They should be pretty solid. Screen held close to you makes it look decent size, it fills a chunk of your field of view. I'm not suggesting that this is going to be a great seller at this price. But once the Bluetooth controllers that have no appreciable lag come out, this is going to be a good gaming experience.

As a purchaser of the Gameloft control pad last year, I can see the potential for ios game controllers, but it looks like this will not work for me because I own both a 30 pin ipad & a lightning iphone and would not want to buy a controller that would only work for one of them. Hopefully ipad controller options will arrive soon.

Yea, we really need competition for these controllers!
I don't get why Apple never made their own controller. The gaming situation would be so much better right now if they did...

Agree, it would be interesting to see what the landscape would look like now. I think it was a missed opportunity at the time. Though this is too high priced and limited. The real boon would be for emulators on jailbreak unfortunately.

Don't know about the game, but the controller is a clear rip-off of the Xbox 360 controller.
My god, how do you breath with your head in there?

See, this comment makes sense and adds to the thread, and probably everyone here will agree. First comment...no.

First comment is way more entertaining in the long run, though.

Meh... Call me back when a company releases an iOS controller with a real Nintendo-style D-Pad (for which the patent expired in 2005).

The best D-pad by far is sony 's and I'm sure they have a patent on that, splitting each arrow is far better than anything else. The PS4 D-Pad is essentially perfect. Anyway back to the topic: I've never held or seen a third party controller I wouldn't smash into a million pieces on concrete, because they all have one thing in common, they're garbage.
