Every review I have read has said something along the lines of: WOW it really feels much lighter and thinner and sexier

512 MB of RAM is a let down. A bigger device should be more powerful than a phone...

Umm it is more powerful. RAM isn't everything.

I've always suspected a poor photo result because it's a pretty awkward device to hold still while you're shooting, compared to a standard camera or an iphone. I reckon the shots in general are going to be blurrier.

RAM is very crucial in a mobile multi-tasking device.

I like how the idiots at the NYTimes said there was a 5 meg camera in the back.

No surprise coming from the absolute most fraudulent newspaper in the US.

People are going to be really disappointed with the camera on the iPad.

But Apple really intends it to be a video-centric feature. Holding up an iPad and taking photos is cumbersome. If Apple had their way, iPad 2 owners would take out the iPhone for photos.

solid upgrade....but no need to rush out if you have the original...

all the best to the new owners...

What do you expect, the ipad camera is not that great. it is not going you replace your Nikon D3 or Canon 5Dm2. Its like saying your butter knife won't cut your steak so its a crappy knife

The Engadget comments have predictably exploded.

The usual complaints that Topolsky is an Apple shill, the Xoom is so much better, etc etc.

Honestly, I don't know why I even bother reading the comments on Apple reviews anymore. It's just depressing.

NYT had to make a mistake... I'm sure they meant .5 megapixels..
That would still be wrong. Every review is saying 1 megapixel shooter, same cameras as the iPod Touch 4.

The NYTimes always either gets things wrong or just outright lies.

Any news if the 3G model (for AT&T) is SIM-unlocked?

I chatted with an apple rep on live chat who confirmed that the sim IS unlocked. Apples website has it split between vz and att because they're the only two that have the right frequencies in the US. You can take it toEurope and pop a GSM sim and it will work.

It's because he gave it a 9/10 review, which is absolute nonsense. It should be 8/10 max.

those speed results are pretty impressive considering the price point and form factor... thinner than the iphone 4 and twice as fast? How did they do that? The android tablets hadnt event caught the first iPad yet... This thing is going to sell like sliced bread. Still cant warrant spending $500 on it though.

Why is everybody having such a hard time figuring out the actual megapixel rating of the cameras. If you have a picture that it has taken, it's a simple math problem to figure it out.

Horizontal px * Vertical px = x
Solve for x

Send me a picture taken by one and I'll give it to my third-grader to figure out (and I'll make him repeat the third grade if he doesn't get it right the first time).

Ya, David Pogue is a pretty big Apple fanboy now. Cares more about fame, getting on TV, and selling his books than actual reporting.

I've worked with him before, he's a nice guy, but man...

I know, anyone who expected the iPad 2 camera to be as powerful as your cheaper and smaller iPhone must be completely delusional.

I stopped reading them a long time ago for any product let alone an Apple product.

Except, actually, average selling price of iPhone 4 is what $600-$700 Apple claims? The carriers give them a ton for the device on top of the 200-300 we pay.

You know, I don't really look at the score, same goes for game reviews.

I'm more interested in what he actually has to say about the device - which is that it's still the best tablet on the market.
