A photo claiming to show molds of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 series models has appeared online, offering another preview of the relative sizes of the rumored devices.

It's worth bearing in mind that the molds shown in the image sourced from Weibo have likely been made for use in the production of third-party iPhone cases rather than actual handsets. Still, they do appear to line up with unconfirmed details we've been hearing over recent months, particularly with regard to the dimensions of the devices.

The first notable difference in the lineup is the lack of an iPhone mini model. iPhone sizes are changing in 2022, and Apple is eliminating the 5.4-inch iPhone as it turned out to be unpopular with customers.

After seeing lackluster iPhone mini sales, Apple is offering larger iPhone sizes for its flagship devices: A 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 models are expected to look like the iPhone 13 models with the same flat-edged design.

Slight camera bump size changes are expected across the lineup. According to ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max schematics shared by Max Weinbach, the camera bump on the 2022 high-end ‌iPhone‌ will be 4.17 mm thick, or 0.57 mm larger than the bump on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The space that the bump occupies on the back of the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ will also increase in size by about 5% in each dimension, going from the current width of 35.01 mm to 36.73 mm and height of 36.24 mm to 38.21 mm. We've yet to learn what the relative changes on the standard iPhone 14 models could be.

These camera bump changes are also expected to usher in improvements to the Ultra Wide camera. Rumors have suggested the iPhone 14 Pro models could see significant improvements to the wide-angle camera and updates to the telephoto lens.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the 2022 Pro iPhone models will feature a 48-megapixel Wide camera, which would be a major improvement over the current 12-megapixel camera, and 8K video recording capabilities.

While the image only shows the rear of the devices, the 2022 iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to eliminate the notch in favor of some combination of a circular hole-punch cutout for the camera paired with a pill-shaped cutout. This change is expected to be limited to the Pro models, while the standard iPhone 14 models will continue to feature the notch.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 14 models at an event that's likely to be held in September 2022, if Apple follows previous launch timelines. Be sure to check out our dedicated guides for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro for much more information on what we know.

I wouldn’t mind more chunky boy, I’m ready to gift my 13 Pro since day 1. Just do the right thing, release it with USB-C and in SLEEK GREEN and we have a deal. Ok Apple, just the colour will do. Maybe starting at 256 GB so everyone can use ProRes on iPhone PRO? Nah, that would be too much to ask.

These bumps and make it look like very little effort has went into the design.
Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly it, Apple put ‘very little effort into the design’ of the iPhone.

Considering, Apple prides themselves in designs for all of their products, I’m sure they put more than just a ‘little bit of effort into the design’ of the iPhone. Just because it doesn’t appeal to you because of a ‘camera bump’, doesn’t mean it’s a problem for everybody else outside this website where some members are overly pedantic on here.

USB-C would be the most welcome addition. It lets me carry one cable that’ll do my laptop, camera, tablet, console, and phone.
F yeah. Except there’s AirPods Pro. But there should also be AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C in the future, too.

"One cable to rule them all, one cable to find, One cable to charge them all, and in the darkness light them; In the Land of "Apple Goes Green" at the end of every Keynote presentation, where the PR’s lie"

Would look a lot better with the cameras flush. These bumps are really naff and make it look like very little effort has went into the design. I am sure no one would complain about a slightly thicker phone that has more battery life or better cooling.
They would need to make it thicker and then you'd complain about that.... can't have your cake and eat it too.... So is it the bumps or a thicker phone?

For owners of a 13 pro max, there will absolutely be no reason to upgrade to a 14 max. No new soc, etc.
I am very curious at what price the 14 max will launch.

I won’t complain about a thicker phone. Making a thicker phone has no downsides compared to these camera bumps. Unless you are willing to take the alternative solution you don’t put it forward.

I‘m wondering why those camera humps are never centered? Maybe to maximize battery size? Either way, i‘d rather have a worse camera and no hump instead of that huge bulge for what is essentially still a crappy phone camera with tiny lenses on tiny sensors. (but I realize, that for people who don‘t have or don‘t want to carry a proper camera, this is still the better option). I‘d take a thicker phone with a larger battery as well. otoh, if that lump continues to grow, it will eventually become the defining element of those phones and transform them from phones with an ungainly bulge into some lenses with a screen attached.

I hope I can get the 13 mini for a discount or used after these are released.

It’s a bad design, not a debate.

I still think the front will remain the same too. Little point in reworking the front panel just for the Pro phones when they altered the size of the notch last year. Having a 13 pro I wont be upgrading this year anyway, its just not worth a yearly upgrade and you cant even tell its got a faster CPU as they are already so fast anyway. Its just a waste of money unless money is no option. I can think of other things to spend money on than another iPhone that they cut cornets on internally, to offset the 5G chip prices and to save themselves more cash and increase profit. At least if needed you can fend of muggers now by using it as a bat as its so big and heavy with that huge camera sarcophagus.
