I don't understand why the camera bumps should be on the mold body at all. All we should see is the riser for the rounded square cutout.
It’s for cases manufactures to create a lip around the camera bumps to protect the camera lenses for placing the phone backside down.

Not with THIS customer. It's a shame that economies of scale determine product development. The mini might not have sold a bajillion units, but the people who like it REALLY like it. I wish that counted for something.
It isn't a big seller compared to the other iPhones, but every other company would love to have a phone that sold those numbers. I still have hope that it goes on a 2 year update cycle and makes a return with the 15.

Well, if it turns out to be true that the regular 14 models will retain the same A15 bionic as the 13 series, then the 13 mini will have its place in the line up as the small ‘premium‘ iPhone offering for 2022-2023, and the SE2022 will be the more budget oriented small phone. Obviously we would prefer a small iPhone with iPhone 14 features, but at least we have some options available.

Its a shame as since lockdowns ended and people are out and about, I have seen a lot of people with iPhone minis, so there is some demand for sure.

I doubt it. No 14 Mini does not mean the 13 Mini will not stay in the lineup. It doesn't even mean that the 13 Mini is the last Mini ever, which it might be. On the other hand, it might just not be worth updating every year.
Bolded:

Regardless, most consumers don’t. prices of smart phones are too expensive for the general consumer, which in some respects, it’s better to wait mid-year to upgrade for a cycle, because ‘last year’ smart phones typically are slashed through carrier promotions.

I think it's safe to say the modules are no longer a 'bump', but a bulge.

Yeah, the bulges are really getting out of control! I appreciate that some buyers want the very best camera possible, and for that market the bulge is a necessity. But personally I don't care that much and I'd really rather they go back to a small bump, at least on the low/mid-range models - even if it means the camera quality is also just mid-range.

Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly it, Apple put ‘very little effort into the design’ of the iPhone.

Considering, Apple prides themselves in designs for all of their products, I’m sure they put more than just a ‘little bit of effort into the design’ of the iPhone. Just because it doesn’t appeal to you because of a ‘camera bump’, doesn’t mean it’s a problem for everybody else outside this website where some members are overly pedantic on here

So so defensive, it’s like nobody is allowed to ever criticise anything Apple does

Sure they are.

I’m critical of Apple where they need to be in products and services, but I also back up my statements with valid points in a discussion. That’s how it works.

Oh...those early rumors of the flat back, it was all a dream!
This is getting a bit insane. 😯

The same way iPhone 5 prices shot up after iPhone 6? :D

With the iPhone SE 5G, the mini no longer serves a purpose as the entry level 5G iPhone. Good riddance.

What's the point of saying "Good riddance" for a product, I assume, you've no interest in? The Mini being available literally does no harm to those who have no interest in it - they buy something else. There are others, maybe not in numbers Apple wants, who enjoy the Mini and for them this will be an omission.
This type of comment adds nothing substantive to the conversation.

Fully agree, though not exactly what I meant here. I'm fairly convinced Apple will keep the 13 Mini in the lineup for a couple of years and then reconsider (drop, make SE, create dedicated Mini line).

This will probably be reflected in the price, which then might alleviate the pressures you're referring to.

I get the need for the riser for the lip. But the inclusion of the camera bumps would imply that the plastic is being molded around or over the cameras.

Entirely possible that if there is an iPhone 14 mini that it retains the exact same dimensions as the 13 mini (basically a 13 mini with a new chip), thus absence of a new mold.

However, I suspect like most that the mini is gone from the new lineup entirely.

Given the size of the ever-growing bump on the 14 and 14 Pro, I may just hang on to my 13 mini for another year.

I don't think you understand how thick the camera bump actually is. With the 13 for example the bump is about 1/3 of the total thickness of the phone. With the camera flush the thickness on the rest of the phone would increase by 50%.
As I said before, I am completely happy with a much thicker phone as a trade off for flush cameras. All design involves compromises of some sort and I believe a thicker phone is a better compromise than a bump that helps your phone commit suicide when it is on the arm rest of your sofa. If I hand not considered the increased thickness I would not have commented.

Your original comment mentioned having a “slightly” thicker phone, which I would have been fine with as well. However a 50% increase in a phone’s thickness is not slight by any measure, hence my comment. Considering how heavy the newer pro iPhones already are, I don’t think many people would be too happy with the significant increased weight if Apple was to fill that space with batteries.

For owners of a 13 pro max, there will absolutely be no reason to upgrade to a 14 max. No new soc, etc.
I am very curious at what price the 14 max will launch.
I’m predicting $899 base.
So regular iPhone 14 at $799, 14 Max at $899. The Pro might get a price bump to $1099 starting.
