If I wanted a first gen Pixel I’d have bought one. This is garbage.
Sure, because that is exactly what it will look like. 😉

Early rumors often contain references to features and design elements that only vaguely describe the changes and then people do mockups that approximate their idea of those changes based on what they have already seen in other products. We don’t usually get accurate reports until the final weeks before a launch and even then some features can be misunderstood by the rumor mongers.

I find myself more intrigued by what the other companies are building compared to Apple. I never thought I would say that after 42 years of being an Apple fanboy. 😕
In terms of hardware, I have to agree with you. It’s just the Google factor in Android and Microsoft factor in the latest Windows OSs that give me pause. Too many paths to spying and marketing that have to be turned off - and get turned back on again anyway after major updates. But with hardware, I’m right there with you.

I agree. I wish there was a viable Linux based phone (which will likely never happen) or some OS not related to Google or Microsoft. But Apple’s chip hardware is cutting edge, and in reality outside of foldable devices I do not see extreme differentiation in most of the hardware. For me, in today’s market, Apple’s hardware and software is the best fit. I am overall sick of big tech everything. Apple seems to me to be the least snake oil of big tech companies.

It's not possible due to physical constraints. Asking for 8x optical zoom without any bump is like looking for a 200 mph sports car with trolley tyres :)

Modern smartphone cameras with optical zoom use a periscope (“folding lens”) design that allows them to increase optical zoom without increasing the thickness of the camera.

Or to put it another way, thinner cameras that still have optical zoom are not technically impossible.

Try to imagine an iPhone Air with flush lenses (no bump ever) including kind of telephoto. Maybe one day in future...

I guess this may be possible even now, but only using a tiny sensor with low megapixel count (like 8 mpx).

iPhone 7 Plus had two 12 mpx almost flush lenses on a slim body, but they were optically easier 28mm & 56mm eqv.

Or significantly thicker to hide a thicker bump.
