I'm not an american so excuse my ignorance; but why would the aluminium content affect the tariffs?
Regardless of where the titanium or aluminum is sourced from, the aluminium is very likely to cost substantially less than titanium. That would help Apple keep the price of an iPhone down if tariffs would otherwise raise the price of the device here in the U.S.

As someone who shoots a lot of video on the iPhone, I would love to see the 17 Pro & Pro Max shoot video at 5.3k 60fps or 6k 60fps. Not because I export at that resolution, but for cropping.

Your concerned that i’m correct and that Apple is fully eliminating Titanium because of high cost. Titanium was just a marketing gimmick like the Dynamic Island will be gone too.

By the way I know 100% for sure you don’t have a PH.D in economics so i’ll take your comments with a grain of salt 🧂
No, I have a JD and am licensed to practice law in 2 states and have been litigating cases for over 20 years.

I know low resolution thinking when I see it.

A JD is too easy to get, if Kim Kardashian can pass the bar exam anybody can. Try getting a MD or Ph.D in Economics buddy. Congrats on the JD though. Law School good one, so many lawyers.

Staying on topic though. Apple is still eliminating Titanium due to high cost like I originally stated. So if you like Titanium, I would recommend getting a 16 Pro Model 👍

Aren't the tariffs based on the value of the phone thouhg? 25% on a $999 iphone is still going to be ~$250 regardless of whether it really cost apple $320 or $314 to make.

Edit: I also can't imagine apple dropping the base price to $800 ($1000 with tariff) to absorb it.

Titanium is not exempt from inflation, so prices probably rose out of control for Apple’s liking and so they made the rather easy decision to eliminate it.

The shift back to aluminum could be a way to prevent the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max from reaching or exceeding the 206 grams of the 14 Pro and the 240 grams of the 14 Pro Max which many people found to be too heavy.

Right where do I start.

iPhone 17 pro models, yes thank you Lord for a new design at long long long last, we’ve had basically the same back design for 6 years and the same frame for 5 years.

Something has definitely happened behind the scenes and hopefully Jeff Williams is either gone or got a kick up the ass.

It doesn’t matter what any fanboy says, the past two years the non iJustine/tong media and social media have mocked the laziness of Apple’s iPhone designs.

They honestly thought they could get away with releasing the same design year after year and sheep will lap it up, however, Google & Chinese brands kept designing every year and people noticed.

They found themselves behind in AI software and hardware design, they got complacent.

I’m sure we’ll see some major changes in management announced soon.

As for the iPhone air, I still think it’ll have a mechanical Lens and sit at 999 while the pro models go up.

As for the new designs, I think aluminium is the right way to go because of weight and cost.

It’s far more versatile for colours as well, I think Apple track has a lovely mock up based off the rumours.

There was a reason Steve jobs signed off on returning to aluminium from steel on the iPhone 5 designs before he passed away.

I’d happily buy this pro with an actual all new design.

The round sides were too bulky and slippery. the 13 and 14 had sharper edges that were smoothed off in the 15 and 16. That was a better compromise.
Many of us disagree. I have a 15 Plus and it really isn't any better than say a 13. Rounded sides are not only more comfortable in the hand but generally easier to hold on to. For me personally I never had a problem holding onto any of my phones regardless if they had flat or rounded sides. With the rounded sides I enjoy holding and using a phone, but with the flat sides its very uncomfortable to hold and takes away from the experience of using it due to the discomfort that it causes.

So it'll look like a Pixel 8?

Ughh, let’s hope not.

Whose layout looks better and why does it matter? I just wish it didn’t stick out the back but that would mean garbage photos.
samsung google, literally any other brand... when the iPhone 12 rumor photos came out showing the camera blob I thought it was a joke. I couldn't believe they released it like that and here we are all these years later with the same thing. it looks awful , not symmetrical, protrudes too much, etc. I hope they do something akin to the pixel now and spread out the lenses for better spatial recording

with a case who knows the difference. I think the flat sides make the phone stronger and better looking

I’m a bit curious although I’m unlikely to change back to iPhone: recently Apple has charged UK prices at pretty much 1-1 $ v £. If the US now suffers tariffs will the price in the UK be significantly cheaper?

Probably not, just more expensive in the US.

Is it just me, or has Apple hit a bit of a creative plateau when it comes to iPhone innovation?
Its a mature product, similar to laptops. Not much can be done design wise to improve it, just newer/better internals like TB5, OLED etc.

What are you talking about? I can’t think of any phone with symmetrical cameras on the back. They all look equally stupid and protrude out the back. The pixel 9 pro is definitely not symmetrical and looks stupid as hell too. Though it does lack table wobble which is nice.

Confusing. The camera control button seems to be orientated towards taking pictures in with a landscape perspective. But this illustrated camera layouts seems more suited towards take photos with in a portrait perspective.
