Kettle black etc. No you don't know me and I don't appreciate you claiming I am materialistic. My life does not revolve around my things. You want to attack me or pass judgement, then don't sit there and tell people not to do it to Justin as your making yourself look like a hypocrite.

Uh huh. ;) I do know you, unfortunately and you are materialistic. See the difference? People attacking Justin without knowing him and making assumptions. That's wrong. On many levels. They don't know him. This would also hold true if I did not know you.

I don't attack anyone. I just state the obvious.

Back on topic... :)

Wow, I've just found a way to pad my "ignore" list! The haters have been useful for something after all.

I guess I just don't get why so many people are getting their panties in a twist over the activities of someone they don't know and most likely will never know. Is he harming anybody? No. Is he inconveniencing you personally? No. Has he kicked your dog? OK, so I don't know the answer for sure on that one, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and again, say no.

Let it go, already. Go out and live the lives you're accusing him of not having.

Good on ya, Justin. Keep having fun! :)

You have not spent much time with me in years Kris. Sure, we have played a few card games and monopoly ( which you cheated on. ) but you don't know me as much as you think.

What is materialistic for you?

Do I have nice things? Yes. Do I try to provide my family nice things? Yes. Are those nice things the most important priority in my life? No. I have gone the last 3 birthdays with no presents because I focused on getting my 2 year old son nice things on his birthday, a month away from mine. I treat myself when I can, but others come first.

No, you DONT know me. Please don't pass judgement. I am not passing judgement on you or anyone else here.

I agree. Justin has actually motivated me to contact a local kayaking company around me to take some lessons. I have always wanted to go kayaking but always had an excuse not to do it. Justin has showed me that if you want to live life, you have to go out there and do it or life will pass you by.

If doing that is "fun and adventure", dude needs to get a life or a girlfriend. Isnt like he cant sleep at home and walk in and buy one when they release them.
I dont need to read his posts to think that is lame. Now if the first iPhones released (say the first 100) got you something extra that is cool i can see it, but to just be first?

its a bit unfair to judge the guy like that, he needs to "get a life" because his idea of fun isn't the same as yours?, he has done it previously and it sounds like he enjoys it, sounds like he is having quite a good time this time too, esp today with a few of the MR members :p, so yeah it sounds like fun and adventure to me, I think a previous poster (mark?) linked to a earlier post of his which explained it very well

lol camping outside a store for a week automatically means he has no girlfriend?, because of course that can't be possible , of course you are so cool and get all the girls :D, I'm not being serious btw, no offence meant, I just think thats a pretty needless thing to say

from what I have heard he had a girl thinking of joining him anyways :p

in the end its his choice to do what he wants, judging a guy just because of that and being so judgemental is a bit lame I think :p

There's one here in Dallas I like to use. For $25/person he'll deliver the kayak to the lake with everything you need. Nice way to spend 4 hours on a Saturday morning.

Yeah the only bad thing is that I am on unemployment. I have savings and all, but it's tough to let go of the money for something fun. With that said, it's depressing as chit to be unemployed and if I don't get out there and do something fun, I feel like I'm gonna shrivel up and die in my house. Would be nice to get a job. You would think with all these iPhones selling, we wouldn't be in hard times economically in this country, but there are NO jobs out there.

That's another thing I would l would like to say to people that have a problem with Justin being on disability or unemployment. You guys have NO idea how depressing being on disability or unemployment is for a person. To want to work but can't. To want to have the freedom to go out to the movies when you want or whatever, it's not like that when your on a fixed income. You live tying to make sure you have enough to pay the bills the next week. If you are lucky enough to have savings, you try and make sure you don't spend too much of that so if unemployment ends, you have SOME money. It's rough. If Justin wants to buy an iPhone and that makes him happy, so what. If he is like me, he is probably cheap on everything else in life.

Could someone funnier/wittier/cleverer than me come up with some picture that we could slap up everytime there is an idiot post..

Some sort of equivalent to "the studio survey says burhhh burh"

Sorry to hear that corriewf. Money is just the strangest thing on earth - and being broke (or the fear of it) is bloody awful and overwhelming. Hope that something comes your way soon...

Oh and another thing. If Justin is like me, it would be stupid for him not to upgrade. I get two iPhones for 199.99 this year and will be able to do the same next year. (it's just the way AT&T works for us. ) if I don't upgrade this year and sell my 3GS, my 3GS won't be worth much money next year. I am looking at about 100 bucks PROFIT selling my 3GS and buying iPhone 4s this year. Plus next year I can sell my iPhone 4 and make profit upgrading again. It's almost stupid not to upgrade in that situation, and I think Justin might be there with me.

Health

Justin, I am wondering about your health. You state that you have seizures, what happens if you have one while you are camping out. Is it safe for you do this? I don't know how bad your seizures are since you didn't mention it (nor have I seen it asked.).

May you have a safe camping trip. :D

It sucks not to know where your next check is coming from. I have one more week of unemployment left and boom I'm out. If congress doesn't pass this bill next week, I'm going on my life savings and that won't last long.

The good thing is that the iPad I treated myself to a few weeks ago can easily be sold. Argg! :( I got it to make me feel a little better and to keep me from going insane. Figured it would retain it's value if I had to sell it. I am literally stuck in the house all the time.

I apply and apply and apply. I probably apply for 30 jobs a week. I sometimes think that my resumes are being lost somehow in the email system etc. I guess there is just so much competition. My wife has been applying and no luck there.

I'm glad Justin found a free way to do something fun. I am sure his life is probably pretty lonely when he isn't in front of an apple store camping. It's nice to get out.

Actually no - he said he is on disability. :p

Even if he is on disability, what does that matter? Is he supposed to live the rest of his life not able to get anything nice? How would you like to have a condition and have people telling you that because you can't work, your not allowed to ever have a luxury item? For all you know the kid eats ramen noodle soup and peanut butter sandwiches everyday to save up money for this iPhone. He may have sold something he has for it. My dads on disability and he was 62 when it started. Is it ok for him to go tomorrow and have a milkshake?

What I have read is Jason say that he is disabled, and that he has a business. Not that he is on disability. And he has also said that he is purchasing the iPhone using his savings. Reading is fundamental people.

Who cares if you think it is useless. Posting about some guy camping on a sidewalk to be first in line to get an iPhone is useless yet all you guys keep talking about it like he is accomplishing something.
I guess maybe you have to be a techie geek to appreciate it, ...i dont know but imo it is bizarro, OK? Why dont you go join him so people can walk by and think, "boy what a couple of idiots".

Hypocrite much? (And congratulations for living up to your username!)

Several of you have asked why Justin is doing this, or even suggested he is doing it for the attention. Then you haters turn around and condemn it, while at the same time admitting (or making statements that prove) that you haven't read the entire thread and are basing your hateful comments on your ASSumptions.

Justin has told us why he's doing it..... FOR THE FUN OF IT. It's that simple... because it seemed like a fun thing to do. It doesn't matter a hill of beans whether it seems fun to anyone else. Justin felt it would be fun and Justin is the one doing it.

I've read all of Justin's posts and watched all of the video interviews posted so far. I don't see a man that is the slightest bit interested in doing this for publicity or attention. Now, he might be enjoying the attention (or, maybe not). But that's not why he's doing it. I believe him when he's repeatedly said he's doing it because it seemed like a fun experience!

In a message yesterday, Justin mentioned that someone else had told him that she was going to come down there and join him last night. If that happened, now Justin has someone to share the experience with on a very one-to-one basis. Others will surely follow in the coming days. And Justin will be down there meeting people, shaking their hands, swapping stories and maybe playing a few games to pass the time (I'm picturing someone bringing along an iPad to play Scrabble and everyone using their iPhones for the tiles).

Sounds like fun to me!

So, there's Justin, and his newly-made friends, hanging around and enjoying each other's company. A growing group of people that are like-minded. Face-to-face, making real connections with one another. Sharing their common interest and love for gadgets made by Apple. Perhaps forging friendships that might last well beyond their few days in line together.

If you ask me, Justin is the winner from this whole experience. He will be "richer" for it, and I'm betting so will the people that come in contact with Justin.

And the losers? Those would be the closed-minded, self-righteous people that condemn anything they don't agree with or don't understand. The sad, emotionally bankrupt, cup-is-half-empty crowd that only know how to ridicule and hate because that's all that takes away their own pain. Maybe they were neglected or abused as children? Or, maybe they simply think it's "fun" to be rude, cruel and hateful? Pitiful... really really pitiful!

Justin is down there waiting in line for an iPhone 4 for the same damn reasons so many of us participate in this forum. We are excited about Apple's latest gadgets and we enjoy discussing them in the company of like-minded enthusiasts. At least Justin has the balls to go and do it in person, face-to-face with people that will use their real names, putting himself out there, good or bad, for the FUN OF IT.

Two big thumbs up for Justin! Hang in there man!

Mark

I just shed a tear. ;(

You should buy an iPhone 4 and sell it. Instant
400-500% profit.
I am very tempted to do that. I still have some hope of getting a job and if I
do it would be nice to have face time with my wife and son. It's still hard to
think about the money I could get selling it. :D we have also thought about
getting dumb phones, but would lose our unlimited plans and that will sucks
later if/when I get a job. Thought about switching to sprint since they are
cheaper, but he iPhones are cheaper to buy. These are our only telephones. Dont
have a home phone service.

Something interesting I did this year was start heating my house with a wood
stove. I save about 400 a month in electricity during the winter and get the
wood for free off of craigslist. I cut the trees down myself and split all the
wood by hand with an axe. Bling bling.

Heres some pics of my wood stack and some of the wood. The funny thing is that these are 5 month old pics. I have doubled the amount of wood in these pics now. That tree cut down was 5 foot wide or more. :)

Day 3 - Today's Final Update

Okay guys,

So I can see it looks like most the trolls are finally leaving this form alone.

Today was more easy to enjoy and relax without having the full press all over. I did however have a few individuals come by for pictures.

I had to take a small break this evening to go for dinner and spend a hour with my family. One my sisters just had a baby a couple days ago, and since tomorrow is Father's Day, I just needed to get away for a little bit and spend time with them.

Also, one of my organizations that I volunteer with for the past 5 years was having a special event fundraiser tonight that was actually right across the street for our restaurant so I stopped by to see them. They invited me on stage to let me say hello to everyone and talk a bit. It's a monthly bingo event and it sells out every time. Over 400 people were there.

I'm now back on site and getting ready to call it a night from online. The Apple Store closes in 5 minutes at 9:00pm CT. They will not reopen tomorrow until 10:00am so you won't see much from me on here until then.

They also have hired in my own personal security which will be with me during the night for the next few days until launch day. There are several bars down the street from the store so I don't normally get to sleep at night until 2:00am at the earliest. I have people come by during the night who harass me sometimes. In fact the first night I camped out, I had someone throwing large stones at my tent when I was trying to sleep. Also I last night when I had visitors, someone threw a bottle of water at one of them and hit him in the head hard and drove off quickly. People just don't have any respect for others now day. Jezz.

The new website me and another user have been working on is now live and running. I'll be posting more updates with pictures on it as the days progress to launch. The link is: www.iPhoneFirstInLine.com

Enjoy, and I'll talk to everyone tomorrow! Goodnight!
Justin

Thats pretty awesome! I have always wanted to learn to play golf... Thinking its a goood time :)

That wood looks beautiful corriewf...

It just made me think - do you remember those expensive iphone cases that were made out of wood? I think these were them.

Well - the one accessory that it a must have for me is the dock (I got spoilt with the freebie with the 2G) - and everyone is going to need a new for the 4G. Could you carve wooden ones? I don't know how the usb connector would work - but some handy people could figure someone decent out...

It think that a wooden iphone dock would look quite beautiful on a desk. I wouldn't be surprised if you could make some cash on it... (maybe not much in terms of the work you put in - but enough to feel OK about getting your iphone 4). :)

That would be me. You wouldnt happen to be meeting up with Mikey are you? Today has been one of those crazy small world days :)

No, I'm goin' stag to this event. Actually, I'm returning home from DC the night before, and I'm thinking of catching an earlier flight, just so I don't get stuck without a ride home. :)
