Not as much fun, not everyone sit on their behind all their life. I personally have done it only once, iPad 1, and I can see its a blast made two friend that we still keep in touch. These things are fun just like burning man. :)

Waiting in line is not my thing but I don't know why people knock people doing it. Life is about choices, if they wanna spend their time in line and find it fun, why is that a bad thing? Samsung need to grow up a bit haha. Cool to hear you got two new friends from it.

Soooooo...iPhone5 comes out friday and these fools are gonna sit there til friday. No shower? Sink wash your face and brush your teeth? you gotta be a real iFool

Or you have to be getting paid money for your spot in line (that's what these people are doing, like the gazelle folks)

Can we have some news now about the upcoming 13 in. Retina Macbook Pro and long-overdue iMac?

^^^^MY SEARCH FOUND 2 PACKAGES??? 2 iphone 5'sssss????

I waited in line for the iPad 2 for 9 hours and that was way too much. It was a fun experience, but I don't think I'd ever do that again. I can't imagine waiting in line for as long as these people though.

Mine's not showing up where I can find the serial numbers from the link provided...So then I panicked and thought my order didn't go through...but I went to my orders and saw this...I should get it on the 21st correct?

yea go to ups.com click the tab that says tracking. Then on the left theres another tab that says track by reference. Put ur phone # in shipment ref. US and ur zipcode and ur all set

If you look closely...

...you'll see from their tshirts that those dudes work for gazelle.com which does iPhone and other electronics cash trade-ins. They run their ads on TV everytime Apple releases a new iDevice. They must be hoping for some good publicity with the iPhone 5 release!

There's also a big crowd forming in front of the Apple Store close to my house.

Haha at some of these comments.

But, I don't think most even read the article. They are getting paid to be in line early.

My serial number suggests that my iPhone 5 was built in the 25th week of this year. Must have been one of the first phones made.

Most of these guys are probably getting paid but if theyre not it's all good too!! I mean it's their life, they can do with it as they please. Some people can probably preorder but maybe they choose this instead cuz it might be fun to them!!
Woz does it all the time because he says he likes it and meets cool people that's what it's mostly about. And scalpers, can't forget scalpers lol

I missed something . . . who is paying them and for what purpose?

And are they sleeping there? Wouldn't the police make them move?

EDIT: Read the article (didn't realize it explained the why). It seems they are there to promote various products/services and that CNN has decided to help them in that venture.

I still can't really say I get it. I mean I kind of do. Lot of attention on a very small geography—if you can be there a lot of people will be forced to pay attention for you. I don't get the connection to being in line though. I get them being there, where the attention will be, but not the line part, unless being in line is somehow an excuse to be able to sleep there, whereas otherwise police would kick them out?

Still don't really get it . . .

My guess is that they are shipping your new iPhone and the new sim card separately and will combine them in transit.

The police wont make them move, it's New York City, anything goes there! With a population of 8 million these people don't even exist unless one of them gets shot for some reason! :p

argh...waiting in line for personal reasons is kinda lame, although I get why and well...if they want to do it, who cares.

But waiting in line to promote products because of the attention the 'line' gets...that is just sad. I am so embarrassed for western culture sometimes.
