The OP said lower cost, not low cost, which the 5c is compared to the 5s. If you're going to pick nits at least pick the right ones.

It's not low cost at all. They still want to mention it from the earlier rumors. It's misleading.

5s box matches the 5s colour inside. Not sure they've done that before. Looking forward to getting mine.

The 5c box looks cheap considering the cost of the product but I guess it fits with the whole iPodisation of the 5c.

Nice picture musika, brings back memories...

C'mon, what'ya want for $600 and the most profitable consumer electronics company in the world?

Joking aside, I miss the free dock as well.

I paid $700 I believe cause I got the largest capacity at the time(16gb hah), I got it with my tax refund haha.

Yes, they did that before. I have a white iPhone 4s box that matches the phone.

Agreed. Especially because the 64Bit RAM utilization is different than 32Bit, so even with stellar optimiazation it would see a benefit from more RAM (the same reason 64Bit desktops run better with 8GB/16GB of accessible RAM).

It's not AS bad of course, but it's a lot like having a flat tire. Sure, you CAN drive around on that donut if you can't afford (or are too greedy) to get 4 full size tires, but you will have to correct for it (programming in this case), and you won't be getting maximum performance.

It's admirable the way they optimize, and maybe it's for battery life... but I think 1GB of RAM when they openly tout how great a 64Bit proc is will be one of the FIRST things Samsung goes after when they launch their 64Bit proc that has 4GB of RAM (or more, knowing them, as they are spec whores). I'm sure the 5S will be stupid fast, but it's hamstrung for cost/greed.

If 1 GB is confirmed for the iPhone 5s, I think they'll use 2 GB for the iPad and 1 GB for the iPad mini.

So when iOS 8 comes, the iPhone 5s will get a lot slower from the poor memory available and force people to upgrade to new iPhones with 2GB RAM and a larger size.

then go get yourself a galaxy. I pray apple doesn't do it

5in cell phones are so idiotic and pointless

What exactly kind of person are you that would "pray" that a public corporation not produce a product simply because YOU don't want it?? Beside the fact that your statement is juvenile, other people's wants and needs aren't the same as yours.

Myself, I would love to have a 5" iPhone, but other people may want a 3.5", 4", or something even larger. And unlike you, I don't "pray" that other iPhones that may differ from the one I want isn't produced.... I would hope that Apple is smart enough to produce several phones to cater to their user-base...

I actually like the 5C boxes more. Hard plastic and you can see the product before you buy it. The 5S box is nice but the plastic inside looks flimsy and the paper box would not withstand much beating, also you can't see the product itself before purchase.

I agree seeing the product first would be nice, but to me the box just feels better. It's probably a personal preference that's different with everyone.

It's called 'placebo effect'.

You know it doesn't work. LOL

You got that right! :)

If its new, shiny and in a sealed box .... It HAS to be worth buying.

My main gripe is that we have to wait yet another six months for the full screen version of the 5S (the iPhone 6). I can't go Android or Windows cos my sim only O2 contract is 3G unlimited and now no longer available. And is iPhone only.

Ill just have to upgrade to IOS 7 tomorrow and put my face nearer the phone to simulate the bigger screen it will have

Apple always does a fantastic job of presenting its products. The iPhone pretty much have had the same boxing presentation since like the iPhone 1. The 5C is the first iPhone to have the same box as a iPod touch. However, I think its ridiculous how much everybody talks about it. It's a ****** box lol. You'll use it once when you take the iPhone out to activate and that's about it.

You can buy a 7.9" iOS device right now. With a wireless plan. Facetime with all your friends.

It that ain't big enough for you, they also have a 9.7" device.

Bbbuut, they call it a tablet.

I want a PHablet!

If they don't call it something, how will I impress my friends with it???

there's a reason why all my friends and family and almost everyone I speak to have iphones and not galaxies

no one wants to speak into a tablet

1. The 5c box is not crap, just different.
2. The 5c is a very capable phone. And for anyone coming off something less then a 5 (and yes this included all non Apple phones too), the 5c would be a major upgrade.
3. Nice coloured plastic. The 5c does not look that bad to be honest.

The one downside though is only $100 difference to the 5s. That's really the only reason, but it's probably the major reason.

Uh yeah, that's my point. It is a rip off. The 5C is FAR less spec than the $100 discount implies. It doesn't matter if it's better than a 2 year old iPhone 4 (what isn't?). It's not worth $100 discount to get a slow chip, old camera, cheap body, and no fingerprint reader.

I think the 5C is a margin grab to help Apple's margins look good on quarterly reports. It also probably serves to make the 5S seem like a better value. It's certainly not a good deal for consumers.

There are not going to be surprises with established products in which Apple needs to have millions already built on launch day. It's just not possible.

We had almost no idea what was going to happen at WWDC this year because those are secrets (The Mac Pro, iOS 7, Mavericks) that Apple cares about and are possible to keep secret.

We all think Apple is working on a new device in a new product category. Tim Cook said as much at the last earnings call. Yet we really have no idea what they are working on. That's what Tim Cook is doubling down on.

+1

People want to be surprised by a new announcement, but they also want to be able to buy the product the next day (globally I might add). Can't have it both ways guys...

Also, if you think about the biggest announcements where people have zero expectations whatsoever, like ValSalva said, those have always been introductions of new product *categories*. It's not easy to create a new product category every year...

Am I the only one who thinks the 5S box is ugly? Why did they have the iPhone on the front have a plain black wallpaper? Since when does Apple do that? They usually do the standard wallpaper for the new iOS, which in the case of iOS 7 is that space galaxy wallpaper. What happend to Apple caring about every single detail? For god sake, Steve Jobs cared about the plastic that was being wrapped around the box, let alone the box itself!

It's not a plain black wallpaper, and it IS the default wallpaper on that model.

Every color has its own default wallpaper. That's caring about the details.

The iPhone 5 box was much nicer than the 5s one is, and the 5c looks like an iPod box, cheap and ugly.

This is why I'm reconsidering of upgrading to 5c. I know I should shell out another $100 to get 5S but right now I have iPhone 4 and I can get $115 from Gazelle. I'm really tight on money but really need to upgrade my phone. To me the the biggest difference I see between 5S and 5C is the fingerprint reader. I know its faster and better camera etc. but honestly I really need to update my phone ASAP. Also I'm sure iPhone 5S will take months to be able to get one. So if I can get a white 5C next week, I think I will go ahead and buy it. No matter what, I'm still getting a HUGE upgrade for free* (* by trading my old phone)

You could get the iPhone 5 now. The phone is still available, is lighter than the 5C and has the premium aluminum casing.

When they used to cost $399 for an 8GB?

The 8GB 4S will cost more than that in Europe. For the Americans grieving for the lack of a micro usb adapter you might be pleased to learn that the price of the iPhones went up in Europe by more than the cost of the adapter, whilst poundshops up and down the UK can supply you with a fully functioning lightning cable for a fifteenth of the price Apple charges.

Apple: Unapologetically, unashamedly penny pinching its way to greater profits.
