Every year the reviews are the same. I think they just change the 3, to a 4 to a 4s, to a 5, etc....

The phone is the same, so I get that the reviews will always be the same. But I swear these websites get paid by apple, some of the reviews are over the top.

I purchase a ton of apple stuff, but some of you need help. Your infatuation with apple is really disturbing!

So go back to the 3GS and don't complain.

This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I find the 5s to be one of Apple's most innovative iPhones ever.

Im entirely with you. Sticking a larger screen on a phone is not innovation, its just a simple design choice. But from the reports, the fingerprint scanner is actually well implemented and so is an innovation - especially its ease of use, the secure ecosystem at chip level, placement in home button, accuracty etc. The way the dual flash is done is also quite special. The 64bit chip is also innovative, but i think we wont see the benefits yet.

These are a few added features, but features which have been refined, polished and most importantly, well implemented. To me, these things are way more interesting, and I respect them way more, than a different sized screen.

I note - with some joy - that Engadget is still doing "meta" reviews, so they're still not getting review units.

What's innovative about it, other than the fingerprint sensor which has a fairly minimal functional value for most people? Iterating the processor and camera is useful but not innovative. You could make the case that IOS 7 is innovative, but that's not part of the phone; other iPhones can use it as well.

Lol the fingerprint sensor is going to change things for pretty much everyone in the next couple years. It is one of the biggest advancements in smartphone hardware tech since 2007.

Waiting for The Verge's review. They are more Android lovey dovey these days than when they first launched their site. My have times changed..

Innovation, evolution, call it what you will. You can't deny that it sounds like Apple executed the fingerprint reader flawlessly. Can't wait to get an API in the future.

Boring, and I will wait till they make a bigger iPhone.

I am in the same boat with you. I owned 4 generations of Iphones and 3 generations of Ipads (in 5 yrs, enough feeding Apple!). They were pretty good, but honestly I got bored - although they were beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed them. finger print button is promising but will take easily 1+year when most apps use it. so time to moved on.

i just bought Nokia Lumia 1020 and its an amazing phone with best camera. it has 32gb and comes with free 74$ camera grip check it out (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ia_1020_091513). i am just loving it.

Or are they just riding on the "hate on Apple" train...? :D

Possibly. They're very pro Google; probably because Google gives them alot of early access and sneak peeks on new things.

But my though, Topolsky and the 'gang' were all Apple hardcore during their Engadget days.

I'm going to try to buy 10 iPhone 5S since they are going to be sought after. I think I can resell them for 2X the price, what do you guys think?

It's simple as the S is innovative inside, cause they focus on the inside. The # is innovative on the outside/design, with enhancements to the inside, but usually nothing groundbreaking.

Exactly. And this 5s even breaks that tradition a little offering some outside changes (compared to the last 2 S models) being a new color and new home button.

The newest iPhone is innovative... and it's a joy to use.

or

The newest iPhone is iterative... and it's a joy to use.

Who cares? All that matters is the results.

Since when is security a "minimal" feature?

Most people don't need more security than they already had, which is the option of using a password or not. I have no doubt that they will become standard, but most people don't regularly expose their phones to potential use by unauthorized people, so it won't make much of a difference. In the rare event of their phone being stolen, Apple can already disable the phone remotely. So in very rare circumstances it will be useful but it's not game-changing by any stretch.

The problem is with the word innovative. The fact that you think you know what it means makes me think less of you as a human being.

Name something innovative.....WRONG.

Did you not even notice that the person I quoted, SJism, was the one who used the word to begin with?

The 5s camera is defitnetly the best besides the new Lumia

like you got the 5s in your hands even before everyone who can only buy from sept 20! these guys who reviewed it got early access. hold your horses till Sept 20!

However i have to agree Nokia Lumia 1020 is the best.

Are these guys looking for a job at Apple? It is a good product sure, but the way they carry on you'd think it can solve global war and hunger!
