Just has a play with an 8 at a local store. I was the only one there. In NZ you either order it online or... that's it really. :)

Spoiler alert - it's pretty much exactly like an iPhone 7.

I'm more annoyed by the weight of the 8+. They started that design (6 Plus) with a 170g phone. Now it's over 200g. Yeah, you could say it's nothing, but on top of the Surfboard like form factor, it's a really ancient proposition compared to the comparatively priced competition.

You have the addition of 3D Touch and a glass back. Its fully understandable.

I have to say it's a bit fascinating seeing so many on here constantly comparing the 7 to the 8 directly when I would be willing to bet the VAST majority of users go on an every other or greater cycle. I'll be jumping from a 5S to a 8 Plus and can't believe how much of an upgrade it will be, not to mention knowing the 8 will be the "culmination" of three+ years of tweaking the design for reliability.

Although I agree with you, regarding the comparison of the 7 vs 8 (I never will understand people upgrading every cycle), I personally, after waiting for this release, chose to replace my 5S with a 7. The upgrade from 7 to 8 was not what I had hoped for and now I got double the storage for €100.- less. I'll upgrade to iPhone XIV.

Next year's iPhone 11 Plus (based on the X) should be a nice improvement.

This actually crossed my mind as well in regards to a 7 instead. Ultimately, I decided the extra was worth the bundle of extra upgrades that were included (the tru-tone and CPU where the biggest factors for me). It's good to see Apple still offer the 7 with a discount, and we the have the knowledge it'll be supported for a nice long time like our 5S was.

It's funny you mention the "XIV" as I was just thinking what they would call new iPhones going forward. "I'll teach everyone Roman numerals whether they like it or not!" - Someone with a grudge at Apple.

The darker shade of space gray looks good. If I decide to get the X, I may get the black/space gray. I was considering the silver, but now I'm not sure about that. I'll have to see them both in person at the Apple Store. I'm flying to Vegas a couple of days after release so I'll check them out there.

I have to admit also the space gray does look really nice, but that silver iPhone X though... It's so damn crisp looking!

Uh, yes. They always are mentioned independently. Just like how the US Virgin Islands are.

Several major news networks have referred to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico during storm coverage as "island nations."
This irritates me because neither are NATIONS! They have no representation at the U.N. or the World Bank.
It's just the stupidity of today's journalism.

Disappointed in the new 4K Apple TV 4K films on iTunes. You can only stream them and they look worse than 1080p most of the time. My internet isn't the fastest at 20Meg but is apparently able to stream 4K, it works fine with Netflix 4K which looks great on my TV. suppose it might load onto the Apple TV and look abetter the next time I watch it! I don't think the new Apple TV is much of an improvement to be honest, the built in apps on my 2016 LG are better.
