Heavier and thicker phone, with the same design 4 years running, for $50 more, no not really, I’ll wait for the X.

Yeah, nothing at all different for the iPhone 8 vs. the 7. Why would anyone consider it?

  • Faster SoC and Motion Processor (A11/M11)
  • Marginally larger dimensions and weight (uses same cases)
  • Bluetooth 5.0 vs. 4.2 (4x range, 2x transfer speed, supports 2 devices simultaneously, better audio)
  • Video playback in 24 fps and 60 fps for 4K video, in addition to 30 fps
  • Video playback slow motion 1080 @ 240 fps
  • Video playback in DolbyVision and HDR10
  • CPU 6 core (2 hi-perf) vs. 2+2; _____ GHz vs. 2.34 GHz
  • Custom GPU 25% - 30% faster
  • Wireless charging - superset of Qi standard
  • New gyroscope and accelerator (AR)
  • Advanced LTE cellular, band 66 "gigabit LTE"
  • New camera sensor:
    • 83% more light
    • better color saturation
    • wider dynamic range
    • lower noise in pictures
    • No shutter lag (due to A11)
  • True Tone display (warmth based on ambient light); improvements in color accuracy
  • NFC in reader mode vs. NFC for Apple Pay only (reader mode: capable of reading any NFC Forum-mandated tag types)
  • Fast charging, 50% charge in 30 minutes (requires suitable power adapter)
  • Japan's QZSS and European Union's Galileo GPS constellation systems
  • Stronger glass (not GG5 but something stronger per Apple)
  • 25% louder speakers, more bass

I will be at the Apple store looking at the new models tomorrow! Just want to see the glass iPhones!

My local store had balloons outside and anticipated a group of people turning up for the new phones.

Lady said I was the first person all morning that had asked about them.

Tracking mine. It's about 200 miles away at the moment for delivery Friday. My UPS guy doesn't come until around 5:00 pm. Sometimes later! Tough day of waiting!

The launch of the iPhone X feels so long away!
If you don't preorder in the first moments, it will be a long way away!

And does any of that significantly change the experience? Nope.

You do realize there are significant internal upgrades... as in the things that actually matter. Maybe you are just more excited about iPhone X, and that is cool. I am just so very tired of people moaning about the stable physical design of the iPhone 6, 7, 8 while ignoring the more important hardware changes. Worse yet, these are often the same people that keep their phone in a case anyway.

Of course I’m exagerating for effect. But I do feel that, at the level we’re at, better internals don’t change the experience that much and that a physical redesign (slimmer bezels, lighter) or a truly new display would be much better.

And how exactly does the X change the "experience"? It can do nothing that the 8 can't with the exception of "animojis".

It has a large high ppi oled display in a small form factor. Or, you know, what many other top of the line phones have.

I would like better internals that provide expanded functionality for iOS rather than a repackaged screen, which is not going to significantly change my workflow.

Its screen is smaller than the 8+ screen, and the phone is bigger than the 8. Seems to me it makes neither the fans of big screens nor those who prefer pocket-friendly phones very happy.

The internals are pretty freakinf powerful at the moment. Expanded functionality is more a matter of software taking advantage of it I feel.

Or a great compromise.
