What I'm wondering is if the SE has any of the iPhone 5 problems related to Power and Home buttons breaking down.

well it has touchID instead of a traditional home button like the 5 did so so I don't think it would have the same issues. Didn't they modify the power button with the 5s when it was released? they don't seem to suffer from it failing nearly as much as on the 5.

If the display is same one from the 5 and 5s, doesn't that mean that the 5 and 5s can be updated via software to enable the Retina Flash?

Correction: the report says only the 5s had the same driver.

Nice. I'm seriously considering picking one of these up this week. I've been holding out since the 6 was released for an improved 4 inch phone. My wife has a 6 and even though it's not a lot bigger... it's bigger. The screen size on the 5/5s is just about perfect for my hands.

Why reinvent the wheel when you can sell it as new?

It's called lack of innovation or using up spare parts; take your pick.

Real innovation would have been a 4.3" iPhone 6S with smaller bezels that has the same foot print as a iPhone 5S while fixing the camera hump. Here we have Frankenstein iPhone. Your post is the reason why we will have a iPhone 6SS for 2016; people eating what Apple throws in front of them. Not saying that the SE is bad, only saying that Apple lost it's edge. It could have been a better device for around $550.

I wouldn't be surprised if the SE being a specked out 4 inch phone does not create a bump in iPad sales. I'm a small phone/iPad combo kind of customer. The 4s and mini 2 are getting long in the tooth for me.

Pretty interesting little device. I think Apple is going to sell a ton of these. I know I'll be getting one for my wife soon. For once my complaints finally paid off! Been rooting for this little guy for years.
Yes apple was listening to YOU when they made this phone.... thanks.

Glad they finally came out with a "new" 4" device so people could stop flooding the forums with thread after thread about hating bigger phones and wanting a new smaller one ect ect.

I'm waiting for their 5.8" phone.... even if it's a bigger form/factor.... Picking up one of the old 4" phones and trying to do anything on it is a joke now that I've used the 6plus (man sized) phone. 4" screens make the phone look like a toy phone now IMHO. BUT I'm glad most can be happy now no matter which size screen they like.

And why the hell would they spend the money to R&D a new iPhone 6 series design 6 months before the 6s becomes last years model?

How is it a Frankenstein phone? Nothing about its exterior appearance is freakish, it's still the same elegant design as it was created with, and the internals are all the latest iPhone components, with the exception of basically the screen which is an excellent screen to begin with, and already engineered for the device.

Add to that they managed to actually drop the price $250 over the only other phone to have most of these features, because they didn't re-engineer this from the ground up.

You're criticizing Apple for lack of innovation, when none was called for here. If Apple had released the SE for $549, then you could criticize all you want, but they didn't. This wasn't the 5c, which was the same phone crammed into a plastic shell and sold for the same price it would have been if they'd left it in a much more desirable metal case and bumped it down just like the 5s which followed. It was an updated 5s introduced at a price less than what the 5s was already selling for!

There will be a new 7 series 4" phone which will cost $200 more than the SE, which will be engineered from scratch. But trying to diminish what this SE represents for both Apple and the customer is pathetic.

If it weren't for all the hullabaloo about the SE, I wouldn't even have known that my phone had a barometer. Seriously people.......
Same here.

I'm waiting on an Apple Watch SE model. One that has the recycled stuff from last year and price point of $99. Please, Mr. Cook, I beg of you.
The watch is at such a low price point now why not go pick one up? It will never be $99 so you could stop those fantasies right now.

Agreed. Of course, every single thing any company does, did, or ever will do "could be better". The way the market looks right now, you're gonna be building it yourself if you want a 4" phone better than the SE. I don't know why some people insist that every Apple product needs to meet every single item on their personal wishlist.

Using up spare parts? I'm going to die laughing. Clearly you know nothing about modern high volume manufacturing.

Apple recognized customer demand for a smaller phone with the latest tech, higher performance, and at a lower price. Apple will sell a ton of these devices as a result. It's a nice complement to their larger devices which sold in record quantities when released.

To track flights climbed. I love having this.

Why are you so certain it is the barometer that provides this information?

A flight of stairs in a commercial modern building is 12 feet. No data that I am aware of, and I have looked for a while, has shown that a barometer can be accurate to such a tiny change in elevation.

Moreover, a barometer would then not be able to tell the difference between you climbing a few sets of stairs, or the weather changing above you head, or the differecne between stairs and an escalator.

No, I am pretty sure the accelerometer is used for counting flights of stairs climbed. The data it outputs can be differentiated between stairs, escalator, and elevator; and it is sensetive enough to detect even millimeters of movement.

Maybe if we, as consumers, stop with trade-back for credit, maybe we can force APPLE to add newer components.

Would you please explain how modern high volume manufacturing works?
Thanks in advance

People need a barometer to exercise "seriously"? Hmmmmmmm

Because a gimmick and taking exercise seriously goes hand in hand ;)

Make fun all you want, but again, there are people out there that care more about exercise than you do.

If you truly don't understand how a barometer aids in exercise then maybe you shouldn't act like an authority on the subject?

I doubt you care more about excersise than me. And that Someone thinks a barometer is a useless gimmick has nothing to do with how much they care about excercising. Thats just an incredible dumb argument because you cannot defend why its important to you
