Ya, I just tried to get him to tell me how he got it early, but he wouldn't confess. 🙂

I'm picking mine up first thing tomorrow to try and get it listed before swappa gets snowed under with listings.
I saw that, probably an employee of verizon

I think Swappa is going to end up being swamped at first. Then people will have to decide if it is time to return it while they are still in their window or hold out until the holidays.

This first guy is getting hosed, $1700 minus PayPal, swappa, and overnight shipping is like $1500. I have local cash buyers for my T-Mobile over $1500.

Well...looks like it sold...wonder who that could have been to...

I requested a full invoice of his purchase - worst case I get a refund if I get hosed.

I didn't think anyone on macrumors would pay so much for a phone

Launch day delivery to me beats "some time in December delivery". I write it all off as a business expense anyway, so it doesn't bother me to pay a little extra for it.

Why would you be hosed?

If for some reason the phone was a demo, blacklisted, or what have you. I've seen stranger things happen.

I hope by posting it here I didn't make that Verizon employee any more money. I honestly didn't think anyone here would bid on it.

My experiences with swappa have been pretty good, but I suppose anything can happen. Way less of that kind of thing seems to happen on swappa than eBay

That was my thinking. He had to have it in hand with an IMEI, has a verification photo, and he has a lot of great feedback, so I am not terribly concerned by it. I have purchased on Swappa a number of times and have had no issues whatsoever. Worst case PayPal tends to be very buyer oriented. I would not have purchased a phone off of eBay. Hell, I won't buy much of anything off of eBay.

I actually thank you for that. I wasn't going to start trolling Swappa until tomorrow at the earliest...you got me my phone on launch day, and for that I thank you. 🙂

Price is too low and listed too early. Should have waited until Saturday morning.

He could have made a lot more money on it if he wanted to. I am decently happy with what I paid for it.

I hate swappa and eBay and PayPal but if I was going to sell a phone using them I'd want a buyer like you for sure!

I don’t know, people on swappa have a tendency to be a bit more conservative than buyers on eBay. I can’t imagine that a 256GB is going to sell for more than that, especially once swappa gets flooded with them.

Thanks! I have sold several phones through Swappa before and I hate it simply for the fact that the buyer has all of the power and can really **** you over if they wanted to; thanks, PayPal.

That's part of the reason I don't mind buying this one as much...if he didn't have any history or feedback on sales I would have skipped this listing like the plague.

I think that you're probably right. I imagine that the 256GB is going to stay at around $1700-$1900 for the first few weeks and most of the buyers are going to be like me (December something) ship date.

There should be a third party “house” that handles the money AND the phone, not releasing either until both are inspected and accounted for. Maybe a little cumbersome, but would cut fraud down.

Agreed, I wish Swappa offered this. All they would need to do is have a department where someone opens the package to make sure everything is there and in the condition as described before sending it along to the buyer. Ditto for returns. It would add an extra day to the shipping but would be so worth it.

Round 2 is a 64gb Verizon version out of South Carolina starting at $1585. Any guesses what it sells for and how long it lasts? I'll say $1380 and sold before 3PT.

I feel ya. If I really wanted the phone and I could not get a launch day through Apple... I'd also have gone this route. Certainly LONG before I would have lined up. My time is valuable to me, and is much better spent on other things than lining up.

As for your "business expense..." I also come from entrepreneurial background ... I always chuckle when my friends told me... "what do you care, you can just expense it."
So I'm sure you'll appreciate the following.

I've seen 256gb X on Craigslist for as low as $1500. I've even seen some sold on eBay for as low as $1K. Not sure how that works as they obviously sold for a lost.

Someone from Verizon in South Carolina is getting fired for sure. 3rd listing today for a Verizon iPhone x just popped up.

I don't mean to sound rude but: Why do you care? The seller sold at a price they found fair and the buyer purchased an item for a price they found fair. Who are you to pass judgement?
