Get an iPod Nano protector to go with your pocket protector.

That's more than smudging, it's the glass on the LCD sandwich breaking and rendering the display useless. Palm IIIs used to do that all the time too.

My Palm IIIx never did that! Still works fine.. As do both my iPods (1G, 2G).

Wow, something is weird here. Check out this email and response from the site:

"Your comment that Steve took a the iPod Nano from his pocket is
wrong. He did not pull it out from his pocket, I know because I was
there.
What is this? An alternate universe????? This guy claims to have watched the hour long presentation and "never saw him holding the Nano."????? Steve DID pull the nano out of his pocket AND he was holding it and waving it around a lot:.

You're right... something is weird here. ;)

I hope to get an iPod nano soon (maybe Christmas if I can wait that long) and will at least get a case and maybe the shield above too if I plan on carrying it around not in the case - it is so beautiful it seems a shame to put it in a case. But I will NOT be putting it in a pocket - or at least not a pocket that will stress it and it can get bent and broken. Because lets get real, no way the damaged ones shown on that site got that way without stress being put on them.

You are, perhaps, paranoid and a bit obsessed with the nano. If we're getting real here, let's just stop obsessing over every little detail. The nano, I'm sure, is a well built piece of hardware and will do exactly what Apple advertises.

Either way, the very thought of someone wasting their time obsessing over "not putting it in my pocket" until christmas is insane. I mean, its a goddamn mp3 player!

:D

This nano-flaw business is really giving apple some seriously bad publicity. Today it's on the frontpage of the web version of the biggest Danish paper. Here's the article.

The headline says "Ipod nano is cracking". Then it goes on to qute various complaints found on the net about scratches and breaking displays. Ending up mentioning this Matthew Peterson guy and his flawedmusicpkayer.com site.

If it'll get as much attention in all country apple will get trouble. Those kinds of complaints tend to get kind of mythic: When I just got an iPod mini of my girlfriends her flatmate had told her it was a real stupid thing since it had just been taken of the market because of battery problems. That's like 3 years after the first gen iPod had those problems... damn, now we're gonna listen to that crap for years and years.

UK gadget magazine Stuff told the BBC News website it had had no reader complaints about the Nano.

Managing editor Adam Vaughan said his experience of the player was that it was "not as fragile as it looked". It had withstood considerable wear and tear, including being dropped.

"Like any gadget, it has got a bit scratched but that's about it," he said.

Yeh.. you're right. Rather conclusive.

There is no more information in that article then we already knew. Some folks have a hard time keeping things in perspective... and this "flaw" is a fine example.
