No reason they can't bring AirPlay etc to 2018 models like Samsung are doing. Not happy.

Exactly this! I bought a 55" LG TV for my lounge late last year, along with a 43" Samsung for my bedroom & Samsung will be offering a firmware update for their 2018 range which is great.

Guess which brand will be getting my money & recommendation when I next need to buy a TV for my home or when family ask me for help choosing?

I think airplay support is cool but its just not enough. Who wants to steam shows, music from their device? It ties down your iphone or iPad, uses their battery, cant leave the house, its not always available for other people to use etc... The iTunes/TV app on the actual TV is a much better idea. It should also be able to hook into your photo stream and apple music. I do not see airplay support on TV's really helping getting people to sign up for apple's TV service.

I just got the 2018 OLED B8 from Bestbuy for 1079.99, with taxes and warranty it came to $1330. So worth it, the upgrades from B8 to B9 are so little.

I own the last three generations of LG OLED 55" & 65". Great TV's to begin with, and the AirPlay 2 is welcomed.

TVs have never been more technically capable but because of dismal programme content the days of TV as home entertainment are over. I watch all my entertainment on my Mac Pro 5.1 off the net these days. My wife does the same on her tablet. Big screens are old fashioned. People want a more private in-your-lap experience like reading a book and to get away from the constant interruption of advertising.

what i want to know is, will airplay 2 compatible tvs be able to output their audio to homepods? could one therefore use say a gaming console and through a tv’s airplay 2 support carry that audio to homepods?
Exactly this, I have tried to obtain information about. Does anyone know? I just want a flat monitor (I would love the 65" OLED65W9PUA WITHOUT the ugly bar) just with two homepods attached...

Plenty of karma for anyone finding out if this would be possible for real (not just guessing/speculating...)!

Well, at least my 2017 LG is still getting firmware updates and everything works perfectly. So no need to worry about anything here: a 2019 LG will be totally usable and a great TV for years - even if it doesn't get a new WebOS updates.
I understand what you mean, but unless you intend to use the TV as just a dumb display, this is actually totally wrong. No internet connected device remains safe to use if it stops receiving updates.

To be clear, LG does still occasionally release updates for their 2016 sets. However, their support team simply has no mechanism to even report software issues on out of warranty products (thus, the moment a replacement is announced, you’ll be lucky to see software fixes for even fairly major issues), and LG has, outside of already promised features, made a practice of holding software features back as a selling point for new TVs rather then continuing to support already-released products.

Pretty much. DO you want to buy the 2018 model 65' from me? I'll give you a good deal.

haha i have the 2018! There's just not much difference between the TVs but different strokes i guess! Pretty upset LG wont software update the 2018 models to have Airplay2

Agree! That’s very annoying. Maybe there is a technical reason behind it. I bought mine 65’ at Costco at the end of February for $1,950. At least that will last me for a year. I don’t think I’ll buy 2019 model. May just wait till 2020. OLEDs are nice, as you know.
