Just two days after the Mac Pro first became available for purchase, the first orders have begun shipping out and are set to be delivered on Friday.

MacStadium's Brian Stucki ordered a couple of new Mac Pros right when Apple began accepting purchases, and his first Mac Pro is coming in just a few days on December 16, which is earlier than the delivery dates that Apple had listed.

Apple's initial delivery estimates were at one to two weeks after purchase, but orders placed now will not be delivered until December 31 to January 8 due to demand for the machine.

The 2019 Mac Pro is the first new Mac Pro we've had in six years, and it's the followup to the 2013 "trash can" Mac Pro that ultimately failed due to thermal limitations. Apple listened to the needs of professional users with this iteration and designed the updated machine to be modular and easily upgradeable.

Pricing on the Mac Pro starts at $5,999, but goes up depending on the configuration. It supports workstation-class Xeon processors with up to 28 cores, up to 1.5TB RAM, eight PCIe slots, 4TB SSD storage (soon to be 8TB) and dual Radeon Pro Vega Duo GPUs.

A fully equipped Mac Pro will cost over $52,000, with the price tag even higher for those who add Apple's $4,999 Pro Display XDR, a 6K display that's being sold alongside the Mac Pro.

With Mac Pro orders set to be in the hands of users starting next week, we should see additional impressions and opinions of the new machine. MacRumors has a new Mac Pro on the way, so expect to see some hands-on content as soon as our new device arrives.

And the usuals that are hating on this product due to cost saying Apple has gone overboard are wrong as usual. High demand is pushing back delivery. Why is it that people on forums pretend to know how to run Apple's business better than a trillion dollar valuation company? SMH.

Lol it does make me think, what's the point in a 12 core. My trash can is 12 core, and the base GPU - and on top of it adding 96gb of ram from apple. Someone doesn't know what their ordering.
LOL

Maybe go and listen to the many podcasts from professionals making comments about it, and the cost. Also I was speaking to a friend in a post house, afterburner is SUPER but how does it work when the Mac in on a shared network?!

I think it a great product for people that need it. This isn’t your avg Joe home computer. Most people don’t need a Caterpillar earth mover either but for those that do it’s a great product. Of coarse there are people with money to burn that will buy it for the bragging rights and probably just use it to surf the web.

HP wants 4 weeks to ship their Z8 workstation, released 2017. Dell is quoting 3 weeks on their Precision 7820. Lenovo is saying 3 weeks for certain configurations of the P920. This has proven nothing about "high demand".

One could argue that, if Apple was so great at running their business, they would have adequate supply upon release.

Conversely, you have no idea what the supply is (no one here does) so you cannot make any conclusions about the demand.

Looking forward to real world tests of this machine.
Likely not possible, but I recall using my G4 maxed 100% out CPU, the fans buzzing like a hairdryer, but it would chug along. I would love to see the top end machine maxed 100% on28 cores...
I can’t imagine what would push the system that hard, but I suspect someone is going to figure that out and show us.

No idea what users apple was listening to, certainly not the folks who work for a living using these things. They are out of their minds on the pricing. We wanted a $2500 i9 box - a basic update of the old tower with new tech like USB3.1 and TB3... we got this monstrosity instead.

Man I get anxious about a $100 order getting to me in the mail; can’t imagine waiting for a $6000-$50,000 order. I sure hope it requires a signature, and doesn’t just get left on a doorstep in product packaging—no shipping box—like costco did with my dyson recently.

Then you're counter-arguing your own point. Saying they don't have adequate supply then saying we have no idea what the supply is contradicts your own point. Thanks. :)
