Catalina is a mess, but so was Leopard. I’m guessing 2020 will be focused on fixing the bugs.
Feels like they have said “fixing the bugs” and “performance improvements” have been the focus for the last three years.

It’s not like there were a lot of user-visible improvements in catalina.

This is the first iPad Keyboard i will try out, because it seems to work on the lap.

How stable it is will decide if i keep it.

My Magic arrived; 12.9 version! Using it to type rn!
Im going to be blunt:
- awesome, just a perfect keyboard. best apple keyboard I’ve used, upgrade from my Mac book air 2016.
- really robust.
- alright in the lap. Depends on the way u sit; sometimes it leans back and can possibly fall.
- Excellent gestures and many short cuts. Barely need to touch the screen.
- great for people on the go.

- Very hard to open. Especially with one hand, its near to impossible. I don’t know might just be me on my end.
- also to point out. It’s pretty heavy... and i mean heavy (i have the 12.9 inch).
- literally doubles the width of my iPad.
But to be honest it doesn’t effect me as much. The typing experience is the best I’ve ever had, coming from a steelseries mechanical apex pro keyboard, i love it this keyboard. I genuinely love it. For me it, along with the trackpad and the shortcuts/gestures defines the price for me. It might not for some people which is understandable, its not for everybody.
Idk - the keyboard might be a little too small of the 11inch. Still getting used to this coming form from a MacBook.

Also: this is random. But the smell out of the box was surreal. Maybe apple used their special iPerfume. 😝😂

Weight of 12.9” iPad magic keyboardis 710g

That keyboard weight is heavy but does not look very big and lack of full-size trackpad, row of functions key is missing. It is utterly a failure for being heavier than the iPad Pro and don't have complete feature of typical keyboard.

Compared to other top level iPad keyboards (eg. Brydge) it isn’t much heavier (certainly less than 10%). And yes, that means most other keyboards of this type are heavier than the iPad itself.

No. Brydge is heavier due to the bigger footprint with better grade material and Apple iPad keyboard looks thin and low-cost material but shockingly bad for being heavier than the device.

Just woke up (20th here in the UK) and still no update or notification to say mine has shipped...

Still just says estimate is 20-22 April.

I’m starting to doubt it will ship before tomorrow :(

Any sign of anyone else’s orders shipping yet? @ahojfelixi ?

There’s literally 20 new unboxing videos up now on Youtube so people are really starting to get them now!!

Express might be 24 hour UPS so tomorrow ?!

It's interesting reading the comments, and seeing what people's reaction is.

On the face of it, an iPad that weighs as much as a 13" Pro seems to miss the mark for most people (that I've seen). Certainly for me, if I had to have one device right now, it'd be the MBP - Just because it's easier to do work things, and some applications require it.

But, I'd just like to advocate for the people who actually like to use the "naked" iPad.

My one bugbear with the cheap folio type case for my existing 12.9" Pro is that I can't remove the iPad quickly. My personal usage of the iPad is generally at a desk or the couch. I'm not walking around with this monstrous iPad or trying to do things on the go - I can't imagine many people doing that with their 12.9" iPad either (appreciate some will).

The bare iPad feels great, and isn't too heavy despite its enormous size. The iPad with any case on starts to feel a little fatiguing after a while, and you end up having to rest it against an arm or something else in my experience.

So if I can get a case that has a great keyboard and trackpad built in, which allows me to have the iPad at a nice angle, but at the same time I can discard the case for 60% of my iPad usage..... I really think it's perfect for my situation, and anyone similar.

For those arguing that you can get a killer "proper" keyboard and full size trackpad - Yes, you are absolutely right.

My iPad typically goes between my home office (in the garage) and my home..... There is absolutely no reason I couldn't have little "set ups" in both of those places which allow me to dock the iPad on a stand and use the peripherals.

But.... it requires more hardware, more space, more thinking about charging devices, more hassle - More of everything that the iPad is supposed to solve.

Perhaps I'm in a small niche of the market, that this magic keyboard was aimed at.

- The ability to type on a great keyboard and trackpad without having to think or carry another piece of hardware

- The option to remove the entire case in a split second to take full advantage of the actual iPad hardware without any added weight of a case.

- Protection for the iPad whilst carrying it in a bag.

- A small amount of adjustability on the angle (from looking at the initial reviews, I can't see me using it in anything other than the "max" angle).

It just seems to have everything someone like me needs.

Sure, it's expensive (relative). But this is Apple, how are we still shocked by price.

If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. It’s a little cringe at this point to see people moaning about the price of things. You don’t see people on the Rolex forum say they can get a Casio for a fraction of the price (pure guess 😂).

Yes it's heavy (relative). But you are unlikely to feel the added weight in a bag, or on the desk..... So it only affects the people who carry it around in their hands all day (I probably wouldn't get it if this applied to me).

Lastly - Still no update for any UK peeps who had the 20th-22nd shipping date. I was really hoping to test it out today!

The Apple 12.9” iPad keyboard is shockingly heavier than most people think and does not offer any magic feature at all.

Well it does, amazing typing experience, backlit and built in trackpad and the people buying this that’s the main reason to get it. If it does that key areas well that’s all that matters certainly for me

This product is not for everybody and not for those who have an issue with taking the tablet off and not folding it back

O the suspense!
I’ll be sure to post the moment it says SHIPPED my end :)

Regarding the weight thing, surely it has to weigh a certain amount to ensure that the whole thing doesn’t just tip over? Or is that too simplistic a view?

Amazing! You’re in the UK yes? Hmmm I wonder why the other UK orders haven’t shipped yet.

When did you order and which model are you expecting? I’m guessing your estimate was 20-22 April too?

Which courier/tracking are they using for UK orders?

But is a "471g 11" iPad Pro + 590g keyboard" really a good tablet in the traditional sense?

It's a huge 1.061kg in total for just a small and very limited 11" iPad + keyboard combo.

We're not here talking about the iPad alone, but about the iPad + keyboard combo.

It's a huge disappointment that Apple making a subpar product with an overpriced strategy. It's not very well made especially the weight does not feel light with the low-end material.

Thanks - I tend not to get too involved with the Apple forums as they are quite polarising!

I was, but checked 10 mins ago and it's moved to "shipped" - Woo!

If any of the UK buyers finds out which courier is being used and if it’s shipping from within the UK keep us posted?

I ordered about 7 hours after it was launched, so I reckon you'll be OK.

Mine also left Hinkley!
