But that’s the Surface Book, which is basically a MacBook Pro-class notebook that happens to turn into a bulky tablet if necessary.
The Surface Book 2 is a notebook with a full desktop-class Windows OS, a 15" 3240 x 2160 screen, i7 quad-core processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 graphics memory and CUDA, 16GB of RAM, 1.905 kg including keyboard (so it has similar weight compared to a 15" MacBook Pro)... that happens to turn into a great 15" drawing device and a great 15" screen.

What's wrong with that?

The "notebook" part of it was not compromised in any way by the "huge tablet" part of it.

It's a "this AND this" machine, not a "this OR this" machine!

And we're talking about a November 2017 device, I'm a dreaming of a 2020 Surface Book 3 with six-core or eight-core i7 or i9 processors, 32GB and a Nvida RTX GPU...

I’m not saying it isn’t a nice device. However, it isn’t really a “tablet” in the traditional sense. I’d guess that 90% of the time it is used in traditional notebook mode, though the ability to detach and sketch could be useful for designers, architects, etc.

Exactly my usage case. The folio keyboard acts as protection when I carry the iPad in a backpack or am walking around with it. And it makes it easy to switch between tablet with touch and/or pencil to typing, without having to remove it from the folio. Detaching the iPad from the folio to use it like a tablet kills the use case for me. It also means I lose some protection from the folio case, and means I might leave the keyboard behind.

I guess the search for something small to carry everyday and use for light work continues.:-<
Same here. Cancelled my order yesterday. While it would be nice to have a trackpad case with backlit keys, I don't use the keyboard enough to justify the $$$ to replace my portfolio case. I do like the trackpad keyboard on my Microsoft Surface Go but I hardly use that either.

For now I'll stick to my iPad Pro 13" and/or my MacBook 12" for heavy keyboard/trackpad usage. Too many Apple toys to choose from.

But is a "471g 11" iPad Pro + 590g keyboard" really a good tablet in the traditional sense?

It's a huge 1.061kg in total for just a small and very limited 11" iPad + keyboard combo.

We're not here talking about the iPad alone, but about the iPad + keyboard combo.

Agreed, plus all these people that canceled their order without even trying it out. Just what I would do......
I canceled my order after watching a few Youtube reviews of it yesterday. They made me realize that, as much as I would like to have the new trackpad case, the cost wasn't worth it over my existing Apple portfolio keyboard case for my usage.

Have any of the UK people on here had their pre-orders (estimated 20-22 April) ship out yet?

Still no word on mine being shipped...

Also, new review from @MrExitStrategy

Great work again!

i disagree - this Keyboard is a very Apple solution to an existing problem. When it was rumoured, people were wondering if it would have a kickstand or have two viewing angles, just like their keyboard folio. Instead they’ve come up with this “floating” iPad with adjustable viewing angles.

Whether you like the product or not, you have to admire the design of it surely?
It’s design is nice but the materials and it not being able to be used in tablet mode is not.

Nope no news here....finding it hard to believe nobody will get it tomorrow seems odd.

Yes, very odd.

This is why I was worried about that “glitch” when our orders disappeared for a few hours during iPhone SE pre-orders! Seems our orders have dropped off a cliff?

In your opinion.

I think the comparison of seeing someone burned is extreme and misleading as well.

Just seems weird you’ve spent so much time and posts slagging the keyboard, calling it cheap and so on, off of a few homemade, often one-handed and oddly lit, YouTube reviews. And why it wasn’t enough to state your disdain once.

Anyway, I’m not here to argue. It’s quite late here and I’m winding down. I respect your opinion, just find it bewildering just how many posts you’ve dedicated to slating everything about it. If we were all the same he world would be boring I guess.

its a forum where people state opinions and have discussions. It’s when people start slamming other people for their view that it becomes unfriendly and ugly.

I have to think it’s a glitch with apple’s systems. We may get a notification in the morning with maybe DPD....if not then maybe tuesday. I have never not got an apple product for the first day when it’s due so would be odd.

I was going to ask the same, doubt it’ll arrive tomorrow if it hasn’t been shipped yet.

I’m getting tired of the small keys on the folio, so I hope the magic keyboard is an improvement.

Hmm I’ve never ordered a product for “launch day” before so I wasn’t sure if it was a glitch or not, but seems odd that no-ones has shipped at all for that 20-22 timeframe given and that we all ordered within the first hour no?

Yes, true. Are you in the UK too? When did you order?

Yeah i ordered as soon as it was possible to do so when it went live so must have been one of the first with others here, Even the day it was available to order the times says 20-22 late into the night so if stock was tight it would not have still said that

Yes, I ordered an Apple Card on the day it was made available on the store, with the same shipment arrival date as everyone else it seems.

Edit - I am in the UK.

Ignore the Apple Card bit, I was speaking to Apple Pay SRE about Apple Card and using Siri to type the message out

I’m just a bit baffled then...will it ship today or tomorrow?

I can hope it will have shipped today and the systems are a bit slow.

Realistically, if the systems are up to date (and they usually are), then it’ll ship tomorrow.

Some of you need to learn the very big difference between “negative” and “critical”
And while they're at it, quit using the word "hate" when you really mean "dislike".

Is it me, or are all the people saying they "cancelled my preorder" seem to be...I don't know...making it up? They start by saying they cancelled their preorder, then go on to say how they think the iPad is "neutered" or say how instead of buying this they would just get a laptop etc etc.

Why did you preorder it at all then? What are you gaining by coming here and saying that? They seem to be more Apple haters than anything...which makes me wonder why even come to an Apple-centric website just to post their vitriol at the company and it's users? What are they getting out of that?
I think it's you. I used my order as a placeholder. Once I was able to see some Youtube video reviews, I decided to stick with my Apple smart portfolio om my iPad Pro 11 and therefore cancelled my order. I have plenty of other Apple toys (iMac, Macbook Pro 13 & MacBook 12" etc) for heavier needs. No iPad "hate" involved.

Isn’t the keyboard like $350?! WHOOOO pays $350 for a keyboard loll. “Hey we created touch screens, no more keyboards, this is the future!”

future - “we created a magically keyboard for ur touch screen device, this is the future now and its basically half the cost of the iPad.”

...it’s just a very un-Apple product.

This is VERY true...

And unfortunately, true for much of what Apple has been up to lately.

Many folks will say: "Jobs is dead. Move on." But the reality of it is, Jobs was all about form and function -- combined. This keyboard misses that on many bullet points. I would say the latest two versions of the iPad miss them as well (overly thin -- form losing out to functionality). The latest iPad OS misses -- it's stale and multitasking is a joke, the touch strip on the Macbook Pro misses, Catalina is a mess, the last version of the Macbook keyboard definitely misses. I could go on and on.

Apple has lost its path under Cook. Are they making money? Absolutely. Are they losing customers? Maybe not yet, but I've seen a lot more disappointment on this site over the past couple of years than I thought I would on a fan site -- and it's definitely more disappointment than I used to see here.

Cook got Apple over the bridge from Jobs, but he's overstayed his welcome as far as I'm concerned. We need new blood for this company. I never in a million years thought I'd be eyeballing the competition as much as I have over the past couple of years. 2020 may very well see me going to the Surface Pro X and an Android phone. I'm not quite there yet with my Macbook, but with a Surface Pro X, I might wander away a bit more there, too.

It's time for a new visionary and new management. Thank you Tim for what you've done, but it's time to leave.

Can you charge the tablet using the USB-C on the Magic Keyboard?
The hinge on the case has a USB-C port for charging only. Can't use it for anything else but U can then use the USB-C port on the iPad for accessories etc.

It feels like an unfinished product. I bet in a year or so Apple will come out it an improved version with a bigger opening angle. Just 100$ more.
I was really excited for the keyboard but after seeing these videos I am not sure if I will keep or return it. I’ll get mine next week and we’ll see then.
Maybe in a few years Apple will throw in an iPad with the purchase of a Magic Keyboard case?

It’s design is nice but the materials and it not being able to be used in tablet mode is not.

Considering it weighs about 590g, you wouldn’t want to flip it back and keep holding it while using the iPad as a tablet. I find doing that with the current SKF already cumbersome and don’t understand the fascination with this capability. Just popping it out of the folio is far easier and less unwieldy.

That being said, the weight is crazy. That’s heavier than the 11” Brydge Pro+ and that thing’s made out of aluminum. I have the OG version for my 12.9” and my biggest criticism of it is its weight. I love the feel and look but it’s a brick.

If Brydge would just update the Pro+ to have full gesture capabilities, looks like it might be a better overall solution—much better viewing angle options, extra function row, better build quality.

I have a Magic Keyboard coming this week but I’m having reservations on whether it’s a worthwhile replacement for my SKF.

I've had the Brydge for my 11". The biggest problem with the Brydge is the terrible keys in my view. Everything else is secondary for me.
