El Cap sounds like the name of a Mexican drug lord  Kind of like El Chapo.

I think OS X Ventura has a nice ring to it. But it will probably be Yosemite.

People, stop looking into a BANNER and look forward to the actual OS X.

Pathetic.

Personally, each new version of OS X doesn't do anything that much better or major than the previous version starting with Snow Leopard and expect the next version to be the same so the thing I really hope gets introduced is a new or modified UI.

A lot of the changes are behind the scenes. I use AirPlay with my MBP a lot. Finder Tabs. Integrated Messages. Notifications. Maps App. Much improved iPhoto. I'm starting to find AirDrop more and more useful. And the power savings are VERY noticeable, even when used on previous hardware. Mavericks nearly doubled the battery life of my 2010 MBA.

Look beyond surface changes.

Reading through a couple of comments regarding the shift from OS X to OS 11.

Seems to me that we're getting a new version of OS X this year and for the foreseeable future because of the new naming scheme that was said to last for the 'next 10 years'.

Also, this years banner features an 'X'.

there are people itt from the uk that have heard of yosemite.. it's fairly well known.. a lot more than mavericks.

google-> ansel adams

Willdo! I wasn't trying to imply no one from the uk had heard of it, just that I wasn't American so it wasn't completely crazy that I hadn't heard of it.

I actually hadn't heard of mavericks as a place until OS 10.9

Why doesn't it follow mathematically again? I keep seeing people say 10.10 is acceptable for a version number but does that not bother the living **** out of everyone else? 10.10 = 10.1

It isn't correct - and it also just shows that they're not ready to do anything major with the platform and are just shoving another point update in.

Version numbers don't equal decimals. We know that 10.10 is the same as 10.1 or 000010.10000 but version numbers do not follow those rules.

Do all of your maps still say the earth is flat?

First, he said his applications work fine so no reason to get the new one. Wrong maps would be a good reason to buy new maps.

Second, no maps said the Earth was flat, Columbus didn't prove the Earth was round. When you quote a historical fiction work by Washington Irving as historical fact, you look like a fool.

#1 feature on my wish list:
A cool welcome video, like Leopard had.

I forgot about those videos.
Damn, how time flies..
Now I remember the Christmas of 2007 when I got my first Mac and that video blew me away in the minute I turned the computer on. I was like "wow". From that point on I knew that I will be in love with OS X.

Apple definitely has learned how to make a great first impression. I remember buying my Macbook (after about 6 months of working odd jobs) and as hooked as I was already, that video made me really realize how intensely focused on the user experience.

In fact last years WWDC had an entire session on the "first run" of an app and how to make it as engaging and informative as possible.

A mountain with a large X crossing it out.
That probably means everything is flat from now on… :)

I've lived in California my whole life, and hadn't heard of Mavericks (the surfing spot) until last WWDC. The interesting thing is, a year (minus a few days) ago, *everyone* was complaining that "Mavericks" was a terrible name, and everyone would think only of Tom Cruise and "Top Gun" and be horribly confused - now when I hear "Mavericks", I think "current OS on my Mac". I suspect "Yosemite" will probably go the same way.

(And FWIW, I've always heard it pronounced "yoh-sem-eh-tee", with no particular emphasis, or maybe a little on the second syllable.)

And anyway, the mountain banner is obviously a bad shot of Devils Tower, from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", and the focus on this new release will be on special features and apps to facilitate first contact with alien species.
