Mavericks is the "new Snow Leopard". Except a few people who happen to have problems, the majority of Mavericks users think that it is actually the most mature, stable and fastest version of OS X ever.
Mavericks is much better than ML, and L, but it's still not as fast as SL to me.

Not that I'm in any way against you watching it, but it is, after all, an Apple developer conference, and you have to have a Mac to be able to compile Mac/iOS apps... Good luck with your quest.

This time it is indeed a developer conference, but this happens also during product-related events, generally all streamed Apple events. I don't want to compile apps (as for now), I just want to watch the event because I'm interested in technology. I don't think it can hurt Apple in any way, quite contrary - this would promote their technologies. But I understand Apple has its own reasons to do like that. Hopefully the recorded version will be online shortly after the event is finished.

I know - El Capitan is going to be murder for people who don't speak english......

Its an American company HQ'd in Cali. So sue them for repping their home.

Eh..What's up Doc..?!? El Capitan is Spanish and not English.......

Yep. The correct spelling is "El Capitán". Naturally, it means "The captain".

EDIT: The name itself, however, was given in the 1850s, decades after the Spanish colonial days of California.

This is exactly the attitude that makes everyone else hate California. Thank you for demonstrating so well why Californian landmarks make for bad names for an international product.

You seemed to have missed the posters sarcastic smiley face.

Looking forward to the keynote but...

I don't think it's a particluarly good picture in the banner.

Seriously, this is the best they had?

Why all this talk about the name? Who cares about the name. OSX change, and real change, is long overdue. Am I among the few people that work with OSX instead of just looking at the name?

Previews in finder are incredibly slow, Quicktime is embarrassing, and there are more problems to fix.
