People, stop looking into a BANNER and look forward to the actual OS X.

Pathetic.

Dude. So he wants to watch it first before deciding if he is becoming one of us or not ?
Yeah, and I'm not arguing with that, just saying that since the target audience is Apple developers (who have Macs by necessity), he might find his options limited. When I said "good luck", I wasn't being sarcastic.

You seemed to have missed the posters sarcastic smiley face.
There are a couple of people on this thread who have an irrational dislike of California, and who don't really get humor. But it's okay, we feel sorry for all those folks in the flyover states when we... fly over them. :D

No. Apple is too politically correct to have anything to do with a cartoon character that has a revolver in each hand. I'd like to know which new features are going to be introduced in this next OS.
Uh, guns. The new version of OS X has guns. That's why Yosemite Sam is the perfect spokesperson for Apple. He'll be showing up in all the new commercials and print ads, he'll be the new voice of Siri, and he'll keep popping up on your screen unwanted, like Clippy.

No need to look forward to it, we'll have all the facts (well, a lot of them, anyway) in a bit over 24 hours, just by waiting for tomorrow to arrive - Now is the perfect time for wild speculation and foolishness.

As a non-Californian and non-US citizen I'm not really bothered what they call the OS. Apart from the fact I think El Cap is probably not the best idea. Just sounds wrong somehow. Maybe because it's a shortening of the name it's supposed to be, I don't know. The thought of OS X Alcatraz made me smile though. With Apple's 'walled garden' what's more walled-in than a prison?

Like others I'm thinking we'll have the name OS X for some time yet. That branding of the "X" is just too easy to overlay on stuff. As for versions, I can see arguments both ways. OS X 10.9 should, logically, for many people be followed by 11. However I get that point release numbers are different than simple numerical progressions.

Personally I'd have no issues, since OS X is the "product", with it being OS X v11.0 - it's not hard to understand. However, I see the logic in keeping the version starting with the 10.x notation since 10 is the OS version referred to by the X in the "product".

As for features? I'm hoping we don't go too far down the flat UI road. I guess we could have more fading of non active elements to differentiate the active window from others but a visual hint as to what's "in front" is always helpful I find.

I'd like to see Find My Friends integrated into Maps. I don't think we need another separate app for this on the Mac since I'm sure it could be a toggle on the map window on such a big screen. And yes, as I write that I realise there's an 11" Air that isn't much bigger than an iPad.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Seems pointless to pick names that nobody outside of California has ever heard of.
Why? Do you mostly decide what OS to use by how the name sounds? Should there be some sort of global name recognition contest to find names that don't make anyone feel uneasy about not knowing something? "OS X Great Pyramid of Giza" and "OS X Great Wall of China" are both a bit of a mouthful, though "OS X Stonehenge" has a nice ring to it.

I've lived in California all my life, and I had to go look up Mavericks to see where the name came from. A few weeks later, I happened across a surfing documentary that spent perhaps half its time telling the story of the Mavericks surfing spot, and it was quite fascinating. Learning things is fun. I didn't learn much from the name "Windows 7 Ultimate Home Premium Deluxe Sparkly Edition".

I actually like pronouncing it OH ES EX. I recall when I was young pronouncing Final Fantasy 10 as Final Fantasy X. To me, X can be very symbolic. It means a crossroad. In math, X is an unknown variable. X is the name of an unknown planet.

In math, any letter is an unknown variable, so any letter they use would be an unknown variable. But I guess x is the most common.

Wait? Yosemite? Rocky Mountains? Clearly Apple is signaling rocking roads ahead they're clearly doooooooom!!!!!!!1 /s

The should stop calling champagne champagne, because it's the name of a place I've never been.

Big Turk should change their name, because I'm not from Turkey.

The Nanaimo bar needs a more internationally acceptable name.

Do we have to call it a French braid, even in America?

Oh. I'm looking forward to it. Not quite sure why your not.

It's just people are inspecting a banner which is weird.

I can't wait to see iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 and how they'll work together.

I might be in the minority but I preferred cat names to be honest.
How many cat names are left?

Time moves forward and change is inevitable.

People said that about iPad too.

I don't think there are nearly as many people who think of a contraceptive when they hear "cap".
