I think this was pretty predictable. Compared to the iPad mini, the iPad looks like a big fat giant and a total ancestor. It's easy to believe that Apple would put a lot of work into making the full sized iPad as thin, light and sexy as the iPad mini. I look forward to this.

LOL at 'big fat and total ancestor'. Apple must lap up that type of perception knowing people will always dump the last gen and upgrade when ever they release an upgrade.

What an Apple device looks like is usually irrelevant considering people go and stick a £50 case on it so nobody can see what its back looks like anyway.

I "almost" bought the iPad3 but procrastinated. So a few weeks ago I decided to jump in and buy an iPad4. THEN....I read THIS. So now back to waiting.

If a new iPad comes out in March then FINALLY I am springing for it.
However, if a new iPad does NOT come out in March, well then I can't wait until September so I may get an iPad3 (don't need "retina") to minimize the $$$ spent in case I really like the September version.

So I guess all this has done for me is to eliminate the iPad4. Whew....I think I confused myself:confused:

You did confuse yourself! iPad 3 is retina. Think of it as an unexpected bonus!!!

I've been holding off on iPad because of the size and weight. When the iPad Mini was announced, I had a feeling Apple would apply the same design features to the next iPad.

This seems perfect!

I'm into illustrating and sketching, reading and mild photo and video editing on tablets. I want a lighter product... let's hope the iPad 5th gen is much lighter than currently.

When i first got my shinny iPad back in march last year. i got a 32gb so as not spend to much money, just in case i would not like a tablet. But now i am totally hooked to the concept and need something bigger than a 32gb, a 128gb would be a nice size as i still can manage my 64gb iPhone. Alas I am however stuck whether to buy a full sized ipad again or a mini!

Well, considering how much we knew about the iphone 5 and ipad mini before they came out, this looks pretty true

Something Revolutionary

I missed the day when each device had its own unique look. Now they all just look the same.

I don't get it why iPad 4 owners would be complaining.

They will be getting the same camera, the same A6X, same RAM and same display.

I think what Apple is doing is excellent:

March (April release): New enclosure with with previous insides.
September (October release): New insides with previous enclosure.

This will keep them competitive with this type of cycle.

Not too sure about the slim bezel... On iPad Mini it works due to low weight and small size of the device but what about full size iPad? It's lot bigger and heavier so you want to have good grip of the device and therefore you end up covering some part of the screen.

Anyway, in all honesty I don't think Apple has much problem with hardware design. What they should be doing is re-creating iOS. I have had every single iPhone and iPad generation and compared to competition it's their OS that is starting to trail behind the competition. In a year both Android and Win are both destroying iOS when it comes to features and user experience. The fate of my iToys devotion is not depending on hardware design but on re-invention of iOS.

iPad 3: heavy for long periods, edges are uncomfortable after long periods

anything to mitigate the two above is a sale for me.

Lift a barbell of 5lbs and do wrist curls. Your forearms will thank you.

But.................

From day 1 of owning an iPad I always said I wanted a thinner bezel and virtually everyone said I was wrong and the bezels should stay as they are.

Now almost everyone is saying the opposite and they like a smaller bezel.

My iPad 1 is still going strong and love the dimensions and weight. Very easy to manage, especially with a cover on it.

Someone needs to do the standard macrumours photo analysis on these photos. Check for possible artefacts - it might be nothing more than the iPads mini shell that has been resized. :D

Uhh...

This actually looks nice :) Just hope the quality is better than the iPad mini. The Mini's glass is to bendable. Ours broke just because my 11 y.o. daughter played TempleRun 2 - and no. She's not violent or Superwoman.

Anyway - we got a full refund and now she has a iPad 4 - thats lovely. Love how easy it is to plug the new power suply. Was harder with the old bulke one.

I still have the blue imac and blue ibook clamshell :) Still works like a charm.

?

300ppi vs 264ppi

nexus 10 has nearly 1 million more pixels

agree, the aluminum with ipads is nicer tho

You must have good eyes to be able to see the difference....;)

BTW 300 - 264 = 36
1 million / 36 = 27.777 inches more screen real estate........must be a very big tablet.

Okay. Time for some iPad flavoured humble pie on my part. I've been bitching and moaning about the short time span between the 3 and 4. Now I find myself not wanting to wait till october for this bad boy. I loved the weight of the mini, but not the screen size.

This will also make me 5 for 5 of the 9.7 inch models. Ahh Apple you must love me.

One last thing regarding revolutionary devices. If we truly had a revolutionary device every year, there would be no compatibility. And anyway, the next revolutionary device is almost here, and its not an apple product;

Google Glass.

People are surprisingly upbeat about this one... where are all the posts about lack of innovation?

Couldn't they make an ipad with no bezel? And use software or some sort of dead zone to detect thumbs?

Because it looks nice and is innovating.

And it's been confirmed this isn't also a spec update?

iPad 4 arrived to add a lighting connector to bring it in line with Ipad mini.

I would doubt Apple will release anymore than one ipad mini and one full size ipad this year.

By the fact that Apple Stock is falling down, I think they are leaking this on purpose to rise the stocks again.
Which I dont mind because I like what ever apple releases.

I'm getting tired and annoyed of product leaks!

I miss the days when products were not basically leaked piece by piece and essentially put together weeks before the announcement. I miss the days of not knowing what was going to be unveiled at the keynote. I miss the feeling of complete surprise and awe when the product was finally unveiled after waiting on the edge of my seat for what felt like an eternity.

Sure the leak if the iphone 4 was some fluke freak accident - and shocking at the same time, but knowing what the iphone 5 looked like a month before the keynote was just down right annoying.

I wish the supply chain would stop leaking images :(

Here's some advice: Stop visiting macrumors. (Seriously) I'm considering doing it myself.

um... iPad 3 and 4 are retina... They are great devices..:D
