I'm actually with Tim's thinking on this one, they can't just launch AR glasses in 2027+ and have a bunch of apps and games and devs ready, they have to cultivate that ecosystem starting now. But that's the real game eventually. So it may not be a huge seller at the rumored starting price, but it's going to start that developer ecosystem, which is highly important. Like, which developer is going to make something like a Horizon Call of the Mountain for them?
But it still begs the question: what developers are going to invest money into a platform that's basically only full of other developers? i.e., little to no actual end users.

People who think it’s not going to seek will eat their words. So t underestimate HC Apple Fans.

The second photo is 100% the old HomePod mic's. MR, I think someone is pulling your leg.

If you look closely it isn't the same as the mic board. The headset will have similar sensors that are spaced out and have a similar looking part as a result.

Developers will optimize their existing apps for it, port games from other VR platforms, and we will likely see some new professional apps. I would be surprised if Adobe doesn't release Substance Modeler for it. Shapr3D I'm sure will support it. It won't just be developers. There are other professionals that will be early adopters.

I'm sure there will be enough Apple super fans to support early VR game ports from other platforms. Those games are already used to working in a smaller market. A lot of them don't make much money and are essentially to allow studios to figure out how to make games in advance of it becoming mainstream. This headset is more powerful then the Meta Quest and may allow ports of games currently targeting Playstation VR or PC. That may mean more games overall even if they won't get some Meta exclusives. Tim Cook has been courting VR game studios for years, so I suspect some of them got early access to prototypes.

Part of it will be pioneered by Apple. Apple has a VR media company that has probably been working on figuring out how to bring unique content to it for years. Disney also thinks XR will be big in the future and will probably bring a lot of content over to prepare for something more mass market.

Oh, the $3000 VR headset that the Apple design team says isn't quite ready, but Tim Cook still insists on pushing for launch? Yeah, no thanks - I think I'll pass.

Lol this could be anything. And the 2 cables are the same cable, just one is flipped upside down to make a goggles-like shape. I'm calling hoax.
Agreed it’s the same cable. Doesn’t make sense that it would be in that orientation.

Why is Timmy pushing this product after being told by the eng's that it wasn't even close to being ready? By putting myself in a position of a greedy, capitalist bonus monger, I can understand Timmy's train of thought. Answer: the people that buy the 1.0 version of this product are going to be Apple's unpaid alpha testers. And the eng's will get to work 16 hours days getting it right for the 2.0 release. Faster on fire, right Timmy?

TLDR; don't buy this until the 2nd generation.

Is Apple going to treat this headset as a "hobby" like they did with Apple TV as a cover in case it doesn't do well? 🤔
They're basically shipping the proof-of-concept hardware that the dev team create to demo the software. What do you think?

Well… that is a valid point.

Unless Apple loan the developers the hardware?

Similar to what they did with the transition to Silicon, if I recall correctly.

The rumours are it is an AR AND VR device in one. A knob you press on the side to go from AR to VR.
That's nothing but utter confusion and lack of understanding. Can you think of 1 single experience where that makes sense? No. That's not what this is.

It´s not engineers that say it was not ready for release, it is the Design team that was pushing to go straight to the eyeglasses version..

Engineers =Big concern but NOT the case..

Industrial Design team that was pushing for waiting another 3 years = perhaps not a huge concern.

It will be a tight device with 7 years of development behind it, all in all... I am sure there is SOMETHING we are not aware of that makes Apple confident to push it out the door...
Dude. The glasses product is the product, and it's what they set out to develop. But it isn't physically possible, so they created the headset to demo the software, and Cook said "ship it". That's what this is.

Can't think of a worse decision to come out of Apple in his tenure.
