Not really an attractive option for me in that our TV is at the top of a 12 foot wall.
Would be a long ugly cable.
Oh well.

Well luckily you only need to charge it every 3 months and the USB end will work in any USB charger you have.

we have more cables than even now... we have one for iPhone, one for iPad, and now one for charging our Apple TV remote...

Or, u can just use one lighting cable to charge them all. :D (not at the same time, but why would everything be charging) ? u wear out your technology THAT much?

This is one thing among many that apple is being super greedy about. HDMI cables like most cables cost them pennies. Yet, they want to sell you a $29 HDMI cable separate from the aTV at the Apple Store. Just like they want to sell you the $19 Lightning cable and $19 wall plug separately...it's such a joke! Things like this really turn me off w/Apple sometimes. Acting like they don't have billions of dollars.

Ooooooooooh, not just the greedy Apple, but now the super greedy Apple. Best said with squinty eyes and a little sneer while turning your head slowly left and right. So people will know your mean business. And take you seriously. But they won't.

Anyone would think this is a first ? No it's not.. HDMI cables never came with Apple TV 3 either... u could pay $29, or only pay $5...

Your choice.. Both are just as good as each other....

Rechargeable remote batteries still need replacing anyway, just not for a longer time.

It really would have been ideal for there to be a connection for the remote right on the Apple TV unit.

I don't think they need that. Most HDTV's and subsequently newer TVs have USB ports that you can use to charge it.

Where would you put your ATV4 if you have the TV atop a 12' wall? Either the ATV will be too high to charge it without a long ugly cable, or you have a long HMDI going from the ATV to get it to your TV.

Aww sorry I dissed your lame video.

I don't care, I don't have a problem with the video (nor do many others,) you do. So, if you don't like unboxing videos, don't watch them. I don't think the Kardashians are awesome, but rather than feeling that I need to let everyone know I don't like them, I simply don't watch and my problem is solved.

This guy... what a joke! Terrible video, but i'm glad he spent 17 seconds pointing to the power port. /yikes/

Hm, why do you feel the need to insult someone for no apparent reason? Would you like us all to comment on your picture?

I am not into unboxing videos, but at least I got to see the relative size of the box, for which I am grateful.

I currently already have an atv gen 3 setup there and the installer guy ran an HDMI cable through the wall.

You can only violate an NDA if you agree to and/or sign an NDA.

Well, developers who get to purchase the Apple TV this week are under NDA (when buying it). But, keep posting stuff… And, don't forget to post the cease and desist Apple sends you.

and it sounds better than your MP3's any day :)

Dollar for dollar I will take you up on that.

We have a budget of $50USD for all components mains to speakers. All equipment and media has to be new in box at the start of the test. The audio comparison will be done scientifically based on how accurately the audio is reproduced.

10/100 ethernet.... seriously that's lame!

This alone keeps me from updating.

Why would this keep you for updating? What would you be transferring to your ATV that needs speeds that fast?

I am all for future proofing electronics, but I as far as I know, 10/100 is more than good enough for 4K streaming, which the ATV4 can't do, so what else could you possibly stream that would need better than 10/100?

Check out NEEO.

Dislike the loss of optical audio also. Having AirPlay work without the television on is excellent.
The HDMI output for audio AirPlay streaming has a time lag compared to the optical out. When using Apple TV in combination with other airport expresses for whole house audio, the HDMI time lag is noticeable and annoying. Digital optical out isn't 90's. For the bit rate and sampling frequency AirPlay uses the HDMI doesn't help you. Digital out other than HDMI is great. I can have two outputs to receiver each dedicated for audio or video. Loosing the optical out means I won't buy a new Apple TV. Yet another output connection Apple chooses that I don't need. I am surprised Apple gave us an HDMI out rather than some proprietary out we have to get used to like the Thundebolt connector. The software interface looks exactly like the old one with GUI update. Don't get me started on the whole Siri push.

Haha, screw the digital age its all gimmicks and squeezing more money out consumers with relentless upgrades! And actually you couldn't be more on point... most of my music is actually on Vinyl (not 78's tho) and it sounds better than your MP3's any day :)

What sounds better is pretty subjective. I prefer digital, but sometimes when I listen to my vinyl, there is a quality about the sound that is always missing my the digital formats.

Digital is so much more convenient than vinyl, so I think that is why I would choose it 90% of the time.

I don't get the worry about no optical audio port. Why do you need it if HDMI 1.4b has an audio return channel (ARK) ?

I think the poster's issue with not having optical audio is that they are most likely using a receiver or sound bar with optical being the only digital input.

While there are many solutions to this problem, like adapters, running optical from the TV if it has it, and others, there will most likely be a price associated with these solutions. Money being one if you purchase new equipment. Another could be the loss of TV-free Airplay, if you connect to the receiver via optical out port on the TV.

I am a little disappointed in the loss of the optical port on the ATV4. But I am still going to buy one.

So, it comes with a charging cable that can't be used with the ATV? That's a standard USB connector, not a USB-C. I was expecting a charging brick that could be plugged into the wall next to your TV chair, but no dice. So where exactly is Apple thinking it will be plugged in to charge? Odd.

the video what it is, but you didn't pay much attention. There was a USB port on the Apple TV itself.
