Five Apple Products That Haven't Been Updated in Over Two Years

The seventh-generation iPod touch retained the same design as the sixth-generation model, including a 4-inch Retina display, a Home button without Touch ID, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Lightning connector, and a single speaker and microphone. The device is available in six colors, including Space Gray, Silver, Pink, Blue, Gold, and (PRODUCT)RED.
I use mine whenever I'm on a long car trip, because I don't subscribe to any of the streaming services. They bumped the storage just a couple months after I got mine, and I've always meant, sooner or later, to upgrade -- but the one I've got is working fine. The only real problem I have is that my library is lossless, and I downsample it for the iPod since selection matters more than ultimate fidelity, given that I'm in a car.

Just purchased an iPod touch to replace my old nano, which I use to listen to music as I sleep.

It's great, but wish it had been updated with wireless charging.

The problem is any low battery warnings cannot be addressed right away. The warning comes up while someone is using the computer, and but they want to continue using it so they can't plug it in right away. And then when they're done doing whatever, the warning is forgotten. This continues for days, until it's just suddenly dead and they cannot plug it in to continue using.

It would be best if there was something the user could do as soon as they see the low battery warning without interrupting their ongoing workflow. The solution is easy - allow the mouse to charge and be used at the same time.
I can't say I've seen a low battery warning myself, probably because I frequently mess with the Bluetooth settings on the menu bar for connecting/disconnecting stuff. Therefore, I see the battery percentages a lot more often than I'd care to admit.

I suppose it is an issue if the warning doesn't appear until it's too late; I would have guessed a low battery warning would hit at 20% (like on iOS devices). At that point, 20% would still last days, giving the user ample time to connect overnight for a charge.

But it's neither here nor there, really. I wouldn't mind a redesign at this point.

What about the good old USB 2.0 SuperDrive CD/DVD player!!!!
EarPods with headphone jacks?
USB to 40-pin cable?
All the MagSafe (1st gen) power adapter…
…and I’m sure I’m missing a few more!
These are still on Apple’s price list and they haven’t been updated in like… 10 years! But then why do it, right?

magic mouse do get an updated in 2021(includes type c charging cable), the shape is more round-edged you can tell the difference in your hand even the model-series in the bottom are same
I looked online and found no info on shape change whatsoever. Can you elaborate?

I have the Apple Pencil 2 and I... don't really know how they could make it any better ? They fixed all the "problems" of the 1st gen, although 1st gen was already very good.
I admit the only thing I think they could do for the Pencil is add an "eraser" to the end. I know I can tap the stem to switch to an eraser, but decades of muscle memory make me want to flip the thing every time I go to erase something. Would love to have that option.

But, yeah, I'm not sure where there's room for massive improvement/redesign on this one.

aki whats wrong with pipo.
First they complain company bring every year new products increasing waste, and now they complain there hasnt been a new update in a product in like 5 years lol.

While lower-end Mac mini configurations were updated with Apple's custom-designed M1 chip in November 2020, higher-end configurations with Intel processors have not been updated since October 2018, beyond Apple reshuffling storage capacities.

Rumors suggest that Apple plans to release new high-end Mac mini configurations powered by its M1 Pro and M1 Max chips later this year.
I been wondering if this will happen actually, in other words a petite headless Mac mini Pro of sorts rather then that becoming the basis of a new headless Mac line?

The current remaining intel Mini best processor is 6-Core 3.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 w/Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz using only Intel UHD Graphics 630 it can get up there in price with options like 16GB/1TB model using best CPU only graphics is $1699.

Comparably the base 14" MBP laptop is $2299. (M1 Pro 8/14 w/16GB/512GB SSD). What has me questioning this rumor fitting into the current mini form factor is the 14" laptop thermals design versus trying to place that in something a bit larger than the M1 mini.

If you wanna invoke actual curiosity, talk about even older products, like “really” old adapters Apple still sells on their website and why they do so. Talk about legacy software that received fairly recent updates, like the DVD app on Mac. Maybe I’m just picky with these articles, but I don’t care about the iPod or Mac Mini, the rest in the list are still fairly good despite their age, albeit the prices should be way less now. But hey, we’re talking about Apple here, who still asked top dollar for the Trashcan Mac Pro right until they pulled it, silly bunch.

I have the latest generation of iPod touch, and the only thing that keeps me holding onto it, is simply the size. But why Apple manufactures a product that really captures very little market segment, is beyond me.

But then again, it’s not like it’s updated every year with minimal changes, it’s generally minor spec’ updates, generally uses the same housing and must generate enough revenue/has some probability.

I do think the iPod Touch will be discontinued in Apples product line, simply because of the sheer dominance of the iPhone.

Now, can we actually GET Apple to come up with a decent ergonomic keyboard as an option for the iMac models? The current Magic Keyboards are terrible in terms of ergonomics for long term typing and I'd like to see Apple work with Logitech or Microsoft to offer a split-key curved ergonomic keyboard like the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard or the Logitech K860, but with Mac-specific keys.

While much of Apple's product lineup is up to date right now, a handful of devices and accessories have not received hardware updates in recent years.

Below, we have put together a list of five products that Apple sells that have not been updated in over two years, aside from new software features. The list excludes previous-generation products like the iPhone 11 and Apple Watch Series 3.

iPod touch

Apple last updated the iPod touch in May 2019 with an A10 chip and a new 256GB storage option, making it nearly three years old.

Apple redesigned its website last year and no longer prominently advertises the iPod touch's product page, but the device remains available for purchase. There haven't been any concrete rumors about Apple working on a new iPod touch, so it remains to be seen if the device will ever be updated again or if it will be discontinued eventually.

Magic Mouse 2

Introduced in October 2015, the second-generation Magic Mouse for the Mac is over six years old. The mouse has received no hardware updates over that time, but it does come with a woven USB-C to Lightning cable in the box now. When purchased with a 24-inch iMac, the Magic Mouse 2 is also available in several new matching colors.

The Magic Mouse 2 is infamous for having a Lightning connector on its bottom side, which prevents the mouse from being used while charging.

Apple Pencil 2

Released alongside a new iPad Pro in October 2018, the second-generation Apple Pencil will soon be three and a half years old.

A key feature of the second-generation Apple Pencil over the original is that it can be magnetically attached to the third-generation iPad Pro or newer for wireless charging. Users can also switch between drawing tools and brushes within apps like Notes by double tapping on the second-generation Apple Pencil's built-in touch sensor.

High-end Mac mini

While lower-end Mac mini configurations were updated with Apple's custom-designed M1 chip in November 2020, higher-end configurations with Intel processors have not been updated since October 2018, beyond Apple reshuffling storage capacities.

Rumors suggest that Apple plans to release new high-end Mac mini configurations powered by its M1 Pro and M1 Max chips later this year.

AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro launched in October 2019, making them nearly two and a half years old.

According to oft-accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to launch second-generation AirPods Pro in the fourth quarter of 2022, which runs from October through December of the year. Kuo expects the new AirPods Pro to feature an upgraded wireless chip, support lossless audio, and have a new charging case that can emit a sound to be found.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu have previously reported that Apple has tested a more compact design for the second-generation AirPods Pro that would eliminate the stems that drop below the earbuds. If this ends up being the final design, the new AirPods Pro could look similar to Apple's Beats Studio Buds released last year.

I don’t know, perhaps the Mac Pro should be on this list as it’s 2 years and 2months since release.

Good question considering the high price for those things

The iPod touch is dead in my opinion. You‘re better off saving money and buying a 1st Gen SE instead, which is what I did.

If they are going to release iPod touch 2022, give it a redesign and a bigger battery by using the iPhone 5/5s/SE 2016 body without cellular connectivity...

Funny enough I was just thinking about an iPod touch again.
I think about getting one periodically to fill with music and leave in the car. But the price always keeps me from pulling the trigger. Maybe the update it needs is a lower price? (I know. Won't happen. Because...Apple)

What is the difference between the iPod touch and the iPad, really?

What would make the most sense to me is that it would be replaced with an "iPad nano" model, which would be pretty much the exact same form factor as the iPhone, but running iPadOS and not having a cellular modem option.
At this point, one would run iOS and one would run iPadOS.

This is likely an ongoing issue; it is a custom build without all the phone bits, but with a screen too small for many of the iPad bits.

If they are going to release iPod touch 2022, give it a redesign and a bigger battery by using the iPhone 5/5s/SE 2016 body without cellular connectivity...

A big reason for the 5-gen-based SE was that they already had the factory tooled to make that design. That is no longer true.

I suspect the iPod touch is low enough volume that they just repurpose current factory tooling - so once they are starting to catch up with SE demand, they'll switch equipment over to manufacture iPod Touches temporarily.

Apple will finally placate all the people who complain about the charging port on the bottom of the Magic Mouse by having the next version only support Qi charging.

We would probably buy a new magic mouse if the charging port were on the backside so you could simply leave it plugged in - for all those times bluetooth isn't working :/ It's why I got a trackpad 2 and have a wired keyboard.
