iPod touch was useful for devs, cheapest way to test apps in the real life. Don’t know if it’s still true. Moreover, with ship shortage, I’m not sure we’ll see another iPod touch. Will probably die when it won’t support iOS anymore.

A good article on that

Another article linked had this paragraph

Time will tell if Apple can provide any form of the same modularity after a configured AS model is released? :)

Apple never specifically said they are getting rid of Intel processors completely. It could be Apple intends to keep selling a top level modular Intel Mac Pro for the foreseeable future. Because they did say macOS will support Intel for years to come. There will be an Apple Silicon Mac Pro, but I don't think it will be modular, at least not in the same way as the Intel version.

I can't remember the last time I saw someone use an iPod touch as a consumer device (they used to be used by kids, but now kids get either iPads, or hand-me-down iPhones without a SIM)

I do occasionally see it used by waiters and store staff as an order/check-in terminal. So it seems to have more of a business niche than a consumer niche which is probably why it still exists.

I haven't been to an Apple Store in years (none near me), but IIRC they used to use iPod touches for the walk-around staff mobile terminal (with a card reader case), do they still do that or have they upgraded to iPads?

I have the Apple Pencil 2 and I... don't really know how they could make it any better ? They fixed all the "problems" of the 1st gen, although 1st gen was already very good.
I agree - people don't think it's an issue that the design of 'real' pencils hasn't been updated in 500-odd years for that very same reason; the design is pretty much optimal, all things considered.

At that point, 20% would still last days, giving the user ample time to connect overnight for a charge.

The problem is remembering to plug it in, which could be hours or a whole day after getting the notification.

It just a thing that so easily slips one's mind. I sit down to use my computer at 9am for work, and say in the middle of a task at 10:12am I get a notification that the mouse needs to charge. Well I'm still working so I close the notification and continue working. By 12:45pm when I get up for lunch, I have completely forgotten about that notification, to say nothing about remembering it at 6pm at the end of the day.

At least on many other wireless mice, they have a blinking light on the mouse itself to catch your attention when you're done working.

This isn't a uniquely Apple problem. I have the same problem with my Kindle ebook reader. It says it needs to charge when I start reading. Well I just started a chapter I don't want to stop reading right now. (I read before bed) And then at the end of the chapter, I'm tired and just put the device down and turn off the lights and sleep - completely forgotten about the low-battery warning. And this continues for about a week until it's totally dead and I cannot read it, haha.

I'm assuming the iPod Touch is "dead" now. Wasn't it just mostly for kids for parents that didn't want them to have a phone? Those kids now get their parents/older siblings' iPhone hand-me-downs with no sim.
I think they've kept it around in the same form factor for so long as it is used in retail POS devices. If that is continuing to be the case we might see another light refresh once the A10 is no longer supported by iOS.

Maybe so, but come back and see what type of pencil people are using in another 5, 50 or 500 years time. If it's anything more advanced than a long, thin thing with a graphite core, then I'll buy you a beer.
Brother, if both of us are alive and drinking in 50 years, I'll buy the whole pub a round; and in 500 years I'll buy you the whole dang pub.

Yes, all pencils for the past many hundred years can be described as "a long, thin thing with a graphite core." Even the fancy self-sharpening mechanical pencil I linked is basically that. That's like saying all smartphones for the past 20 years are thin rectangular things with some semiconductors inside. Really, the iPhone 13 Pro of 2022 is no different than the Handspring Treo 180 of 2002.

So of course future pencils will still be "a long, thin thing with a graphite core." But there is much that can be improved within that long, thin thing and it's graphite core.

I have been hovering over that damn Buy Botton on an iPad mini 6 & Pencil 2 combo. Stupid ship date has kept me from committing. Today, it slipped another week (which I know - there is a correlation between delayed ordering and delayed shipping). Maybe one day...

Anyway, I don't have much experience with Pencil and thus, not sure what to think about regarding it's next generation potential. For those familiar with Pencil 2: what features/functionality would you like to see added? Or, where do you see the accessory heading?

And while I'm here: does anyone think iPhone's Pro line will ever see Pencil support? I now what Steve said about styli. Steve said lots of things. These screens are now large enough for sketching/notation, like a digital version of Field Notes.

They would be sitting on a gold mine.

After the monumental failure of the Lossless/Hi Res launch, I never truly realized how much Apple Music SUCKS as a standalone music player. Then I found out that iPhones can only handle one audio stream at the time meaning I can’t use other apps without getting my music paused every second, i just gave up, I can’t Listen to music and use my iphone anymore. I too considered buying an iPod touch 7th gen and seeing the insane mods for iPod classics makes me wish for Apple to update the classic, I mean laugh all you want but the Sony Walkman brand is strong and putting out hi-res music players. I am still holding out for Apple to surprise me but i keep getting let down at every apple conference as of recently haha
I just paid $50 to replace the battery in my iPod Classic. I almost went for a modded Classic but I will wait until this one dies. The iPod Touch was the worst one Apple saved.

It still needs to be able to swipe up from the bottom screen edge to unlock & down from the top right edge for Control Center; many third-party styli can do that. Also, a capacitive tip on the rounded end would also make it more useful for instances where a fine tip isn't needed, or you need something quieter than the plastic tip. The first Apple Pencil has after-market caps which add just that feature, and it quickly becomes second-nature to use it for the aforementioned scenarios.

Damn, we've gotten materialistic!
Devices that haven't been upgraded in more than TWO YEARS!
OMG, what will we do if everything is not updated to the latest everything??
I mean, we should stop expecting an update every year for everything, we need to stop! This planet cannot afford it, and we haven't reached a point where we're capable to be emissions free yet, and we'll never be if we keep behaving so carelessly.
We need to start focusing on stuff that lasts for many years, good quality stuff, and stuff we can recycle.

I just hope it won't be nature to reset humans' behaviours.

That's unheard of!
Thanks, you made me smile :)
Btw it's nice to know that other people think likewise.
It's a subject we really cannot afford to ignore.
