It could be. It's happened before.

The real questions, though, is if you want it to be :D

Maintenance is usually done during the night so not to disrupt the store for too long.

New products is done during the day, to stimulate discussion and interest just like this... so people buy in a frenzy.

I'm for the MBP so I hope all the fuzz isn't only about the MB.

And I will cry me a river if it is the MBP, but without the LED backgroundlighting.

UNLESS... Steve thought it'd be funny to whip us into a frenzy like this... he's probably watching this all playing out and laughing away. :p

So seriously, what are we expecting, just a macbook update?

what about:
macbook pro (led screens, better gfx, santa wotsit)
mac mini (core 2 duo)
iMac (new look?!)
new iPhone page? more details?
apple tv (new models?)
more leopard info? the current page hasnt chnged for ages.

all those backed up rumours and needed updates, that could take 2 hours to update the website right?
what you all rekon?

I would say it's likely that all products updated from now on will have LED backlighting or Steve Jobs wouldn't have pre-announced it.

Unlikely as it normally takes us another week to get stock into the UK and then into the stores, the staff will just get emails explaining the updates and look on Apple.com/macboor (or new toy) and brush up on there.

thanks that answers my second question aswell :) I was wondering if I could pick one up in london on friday but if they aren't there i might as well order online

He did mention that they'd switch to LED when "economically and technically feasible" so it's possible that we'll see a few more CCFL-based LCDs before they eventually switch over.

He does watch the rumour sites occasionally. He mentioned that to one of his keynotes.

What the hell will happen to Apple when Steve... no, I can't say it... that will never happen!

Does somebody have a link that explains what LED backlighting is? I'm considering maybe buying the current MPB version when the new one comes out, as it will drop in price a couple of hundred dollars.

Well London is the flagship store for the UK so they will get them before the other stores and pretty soon after the announcement. London is one of THE major cities in the world.

It would be very bad marketing to pre-announce a product/technology to be incorporated before it's predecessor is released. And considering Apple traditionally have never pre-announced anything at all I find it unlikely Steve will give people a reason not to buy the new updates by not including LED backlighting.

I could be wrong, but I hope not.
