Why isn't there much hype about this second update? I don't understand it. It's potentially bigger than the first.

they put the macbook "updates" up as a hoax.. and now they are putting the REAL updates up ;) lol!!

man, it's been down for a looong time (circa 3 hours)..

don't remember the last time when it was down for that long for a product update.. it should be something decent..

but whatever.. i'm not hoping out on much

I feel the same way,

I believe people just thought it was this one update, and went offline or something.

well, at least lets hope so

no thats why they call it hitches lol

maybe apple was teasing us

It's possible, but if apple is very good at updating the store, what are the down the line odds of a hitch occuring during a big update like this, maybe it is, I just tend to believe Steve is a little smarter than we think

Wow. I really hope there's something else. A tiny speed bump to the Macbooks isn't exactly exciting. And while they don't need Santa Rosa in terms of the CPUs, they could use a better GPU...at least something low end from Nvidia or Intel's newer integrated graphics from Santa Rosa.

The Santa Rosa isn't as cool as I'd believed. I had expected it to support DDR2-800 memory but it's still just DDR2-667 with an 800MHz FSB to talk to stuff like PCIe (which doesn't exist on laptops) and the ExpressCard slot. Since that's not on the iMacs I'm really not sure SR will bring any measurable benefit to the iMac which I've been waiting for. *sigh*

Of course notebooks use PCIe, and 667MHz RAM is pretty much standard in desktop computers, let alone laptops!

yepp :-( what disappoints me the most is the fact that they still include those unusable shared-memory graphic boards

That wasn't going to change. Intel's new video is of course still shared memory, it's just that it FINALLY qualifies as low end (versus being 1998 graphics hardware).

Well the macbook is nice...it's the only real hardware update in six months. (MacPros with new chip do not count)

That doesn't, and this does? Frankly putting in 8 cores in one system is a LOT more exciting than speed bumping the Macbooks by one CPU grade. That seems like it hardly qualifies for the fro nt page of Apple.com, let alone anything else.

True, which is why we will se MBP updates... I know its a long shot but stores still down... Clenching unto every bit of hope i have left:D

Appears to be a price reduction on the UK store :)
Was £749 / £899 / £1,029
Now £699 / £829 / £949

I Stand Corrected

My thoughts exactly 05elstonc. I just went to the online Apple Store and checked each version of MacBook and MacBook Pro. They were all available within 24 hours. I could be wrong but don't think so.

Edit: Good call to the one who first mentioned this! :) Wish they could have made a 15in in addition tho. :(

A 12" MacBook something like this please!!

Yeah. Sometimes I feel like I should stop reading this website, because it gets me all excited for something that almost never lives up to its hype.

Overally, it's not horrible news. I went to my Apple store today to check things out and they were still selling the older versions. That would stink for someone to buy one of those today, and not know for the same price they could have had the faster one.

But you and I both know that we'll keep looking and keep believing the rumors. This time it was a let down, but hey, there's always WWDC and the 3 weeks preceeding it...
