If you’ve decided they are out of your price range, then why are you commenting here on price?. In the video he states at the very outset “let’s assume you have $550 budgeted out for headphones” .. the bottom line, trashing these headphones because you don’t want to spend $550 on them doesn’t change anyone’s opinion and makes you look petty.
It is always in the best interest of the consumer to call out what these are: overpriced products. Overpriced by about two fold. That’s nuts.

As well as any other lifestyle/luxury brand. Consumers aren't stupid to not know that.

The best thing I can say about the AirPods Max is that they put me on a journey which allowed me to discover the Audio-Technica ATH-M50XBT. They may not have ANC, but the clarity and separation is so good they make me want to relisten to every piece of music I’ve ever heard.
I have two of these special edition colours of ATH-M50X since a decade ago as part of my collection of headphones and they are not what I would recommend tbh.

Given the poor physical quality of my Bose headphones for the price (have had two QC series break) the somewhat higher price of these seems reasonable by comparison if the Apple headphones are sturdier. I will check them out when my current Bose headphones fail.

I wonder if you've tried the ATH-DSR9BT?
No, I haven't. After upgrading my pair of ATH due to faux leather peeling, I swore against the brand. And good luck with replacement parts of the Audio Technica bad quality. If people are complaining about Apple's ear cushions prices which have technology behind them. That price is nothing.

The only reason you buy these is if you like the appearance/build (accepting the heavier weight) and or if you want all things Apple.

Sound quality and noise cancellation ability is subjective in that people like different sound profiles and the headphones might be better or worse at canceling various noises. With that said, it’s definitely not twice the price better. That’s just reality.

What something is worth in cost is also just as subjective as sound quality.

Since when does macrumors give anything apple makes anything other than a glowing review?
Huh? MacRumors is a closet Apple hater that almost continuously uses passive-aggressive article titles/content to generate click revenue. Let's not forget they were the initiators of "bendgate".

My two bobs worth:
Some design aspects I like, others I don't.
ANC overall is on par with Sony/Bose.
Sound overall is as good as Sony/Bose.
H1 chip is good to have when owning other Apple devices.
I have little interest in spacial audio, transparency features, therefore I won't getting much value from the second H1 chip and the nine microphones.
Conclusion: AirPods Max is overpriced and by a huge margin in this country.

I watched a review that basically said that these are a jack of all trade headphones, but master of none.

For the price, you can get better sounding headphones. For the weight you can get better sounding headphones. For just about any metric, you can do better. But where Apple shines is putting it all together into something slightly better than the Sony headphones that integrated into the Apple ecosystem.

The problem is that the only people willing to pay over double the $250 for Sony's are the people who are going to care about sound quality, and then at $585 (because you need the stupid dongle to get that quality) there are much better choices.

This is like Apple with the iPhone all over again. At launch, at that price, with so many compromises, it's just not worth it. Maybe when Apple gives everyone a $200 store credit they'll make more sense, but for now they don't.

These are amazing headphones. I've listened to the Beats Solo Pro and Bose 700. They sound similar to each other but believe it or not, the noise-canceling in the Beats Solo Pro is slightly better than the Bose 700. So if you can buy the Beats Solo Pro for $150.00 and Bose 700 for $250.00, why should anyone buy the Airpods Max?
I have the Beats Solo Pro, I quite like them overall. The H1 chip is good have (reason I bought it over the Sony/Bose), it sounds good and the ANC is good (I wish it was better, but being on the ear its more difficult to get a good seal). I thought Apple would be making an over the ear version of the Beats Solo Pro, and priced it a little higher. But instead they went with this overpriced version.

The AirPods Max are a reasonable consideration for people who want that all-in-one solution.

No one can please everyone all the time.

My Grado SR-60s have great sound but don't have a microphone nor do they provide any noise reduction. My Bose QuietComfort 25s have better noise cancellation. I also have some consumer grade AKGs. Headphones hurt after an hour or two.

I really like my AirPods Pro, especially when I'm sitting by the pool during the summer because a pair of headphones would cause excessive discomfort within five minutes.

Recently I picked up a pair of Razer Blackshark V2 gaming headphones on sale. The comfort issue is still there but they provide better performance specifically for gaming.

If I want to listen to baroque choral music, the Grados are way better. But that's four sets of over-the-ear headphones that total more than Apple's Max. Only two of them have microphones.

At home it's easy for me select whatever set is ideal for the situation.
