I was happy with my Bose QC25 for many years and travels around the world (which hasn't happened in a while...) The only problem with them is that they sound like crap when using them without noise cancelation and the ear cup needs to be replaced after lots of usage and that is hard to do. Looking at a new pair I might've consider these but VAT will bring them close to $700.

Sound quality is not good enough. I pass

Compared to what? How would you know that? Did you personally test them?
**********************
I suspect for the majority of consumers, the sound quality will probably be on par with the majority of competitors, especially being that most are not audiophiles, I think the price is the biggest hurdle for consumers in a down economy, but for those who are in the market, take advantage of the 14 day return period, it’s truly the only way if you will know if the aesthetics, fit/form and sound is on par what your expectation is, watching countless ‘YouTube videos’ is won’t make that determination for you.

Honest question to all the people that spends all this time on an Apple forum spewing childish hate on Apple, do you really have nothing else better to do with your life? Don’t you think it’s a sign your life needs improvements more than Apple products? Perhaps you are all projecting? Think about it, life is short and you are wasting part of it focusing on things you hate, and things that have basically no importance at all: tech gadgets; you could all do better I think.

Not interested here, as I had never been interested in the AirPods before. You pay mostly for the name and marketing, had been the same with Beats before (football players wearing them just to trigger more people to pay $$$), in technical comparison they had always come short compared to true audio companies like Sennheiser. Also, diminishing returns is an aspect to keep in mind. Why should I pay 250$ for AirPods Pro, when I got my Anker In-Ears for 70$, which sound 80-90% as good and have double the battery runtime? Not everyone is listening to lossless, which is overkill on a mobile device anyway. The AirPod Max looks bulky and ugly imho. Would never pay >500$ for that, unless I have to show everyone I have them.

And no, I am no Apple hater, I own iPhone, iPad Pro, MBP and iMac 5K. But each unit had been selected for good reasons. Just can't find those for those headphones. They may sound good, but you also pay a huge part for having a visible Apple accessory on your head. I have no need for that. But hey, each to his own! Merry Christmas

Air Pods Max is a NO.

It is not well thought through nor integrated and at the price point ”refuses to play well with others”. When it can not simply connect directly to eliminate latency for $500USD it ranks as simply a toy. No AppleTV, no MacOS X and only viewable on iPad or iPhone for full features like spatial audio reinforces the “toy” that won’t just work.

Wonder what the cost will be to have the dirty/torn/ripped headband replaced?

I work in an industry where everyone is an Apple fan boy. Everyone uses macs, everyone has air pods etc. The average salary is pretty good, so the price isn't the deterant. People have $1500 headphones at their desks.

If anyone saw you wearing the Air Pods Max you would be made fun of for being a sucker because you 1) aren't in the know enough to know what actual good $775cnd+ headphones are.

There's a big difference between knowing what's cool and just having something expensive. Air Pods Max aren't cool. Air pods are cool. A Dior leather weekender bags is cool. Air Pods Max aren't cool simply because it's a sucker price. If they were $499CND they'd be cool af.

Why do you care what others say? You do you. Personally, I am going to wait to get these. I am covered until then with Airpods Pro and Beoplay H7s.

When apple launches a new product it always pushes the limits of that genre. These just dont, they integrate with apple's ecosystem but thats it. Other headphone company's do quality just as good and in the over $500 price range, they do quality better. Competing and often found cheaper we have: Bowers and Wilkins, beoplay, Bose, Sony, Montblanc, Sennheiser, and a few other. All come with a better unboxing experience, 3.5mm headphone jack in the box, quality materials like leather and metals, and carrying cases that work. Apple should have made these a experience instead of just tying you into their ecosystem.

Wait a minute. Am I the only person who turns off their phone after I finish a phone call or read an email?

Do you turn off a flashlight after you're done using it or just put it down so its ready for use without the horrible pain of having to turn it on.

Very very satisfied with the APM, unfortunately there is just one thing: the weight, they are really terrible heavy, specially when you plan to wear them not only when sitting/laying on the couch. This is the only thing why iam not sure if I will return them or not.

I see someone selling a wrap around pad for them just for the reason you stated. That mesh will get oily and dirty eventually, probably wouldn't show as bad on the space gray though

Because the vast, and I mean the VAST majority of people care what other people think.
This is true to the cloths you wear, the care you drive, the way you cut your hair, the items you buy, the music you like.

It's pretty much impossible to say what others think don't influence you as your brain has been programmed this was since you were born.

So many hate on the Airpod Max because of the price. They simply assume everyone has the same price sensitivity as them. For many $600 headphones isn’t an issue and if we like them the price isn’t an issue. My last cans cost me $1300 and I still got the Airpods Max specially for the convenience factor.
You will find the biggest reason why people are hating on the price is because nearly everyone is comparing and reviewing the APM to headphones that are in the $200 - $300 price bracket. This therefore implies that Apple built the APM to compete with the same class of headphones in the $200 - $300 price bracket but priced it way outside of that price bracket. As such people view the APM as being way overpriced for the class of headphones it's competing against.

Those who are comparing and reviewing it against $200 - $300 headphones are wrong for doing so. The APM should be compared with and reviewed against headphones of the same price bracket. When that happens the APM does not appear overpriced.

If I compare them to the B&O H95 Headphones the AirPods Max aren't even in the same league, so I'm not sure what to compare them against.

Vast is not every single one. So. Do you or whatever. Personality is a thing.

So, to sum it up:

- comfort is subjective
- noise cancellation at a great but worse than Sony WH1000-XM4 level
- Sound quality is bad FOR THE PRICE RANGE, and still doesn't beat cheaper headphones
- Switching audio between Apple devices, all right
- Spatial audio that WH1000 and many other cheaper headphones have

Add to that:
- heavyweight
- a terrible case
- never being able to turn them off
- lighting charging in 2020
- replaceable parts for half a kidney price

And that's just for $549! Sold!
I have tested both. The airpods beat the sony's in every category in my opinion outside of price. The noise canceling is noticeably better. I wore them on a 10 hour road trip one way and the Sony's on the 10 hour return. Battery life, comfort, sound quality, and noise cancelling are noticeably different during extended sessions. The case is absurd but you really don't need to use it. Not being able to turn them off is negligible based on testing. Lightning is a slap on the face but thats apple so live with it, not going anywhere. I highly suggest you test for yourself. My father hates the way the feel on his head but I love them. Very subjective but to me they are outstanding. I highly suggest watching Snazzy Labs video, he does a great job reviewing them.
