Can someone explain to me why these are no good for Studio / professional work?

I've read and watched multiple reviews, and the general feeling seems to be.
Case = hate it, worst case ever.
Sound quality and spacial audio and noise cancelling all excellent

Being able to use then in a professional environment to create content = Rubbish, can't be used, don't even think about it. They are made for general consumers to enjoy general music and that's all.

Can someone who knows about these things, explain why this is the case?

The scathing “Reviews” by people who clearly don’t own and clearly haven’t tested . . . #useless. I will trust in reputable reviewers.

OUR VERDICT

“Sonically speaking, the AirPods Max don’t put a foot wrong – these are hands-down the best wireless noise-cancellers you can buy”

I would never buy a wireless headphone system for a studio setup. No thank you.

Uh huh. And the numerous audiophiles saying they're a waste of money? The audiophiles who say the treble is painfully fatiguing? You don't need to own them to know that not having the ability to power them off is completely stupid. You don't need to own them to know that the case is an absolute joke, or that not having a 3.5 port on it is awful.

I hope the imbecile who designed the case gets fired on Christmas Day. That’s how unbelievably terrible the case is. Jobs would’ve thrown them out on their a** immediately.

Their review holds exactly zero more weight than anyone else's.

To the people who bought these headphones, what will be the highest Apple could go , before you say ”Apple has priced me out”

800
1000
2000
5000

I wonder if Apple could have gone a 1000 for them.

Their review is exactly how I experienced the APM! I said something similar in my post earlier in this thread. Thanks for posting this link.

I love my AirPod Max. I was sure I would return them, but they won me over, easily. My old Sony were due an upgrade (had them for six years), and these AirPod max are exactly what I wanted: fantastic sound, ANC, transparency (sooo much better than my old Sony), eternal battery. They’re also way more comfortable than my old ones, which has leather ear cups that make you sweat. Looking forward to handsome leather cases by the likes of Pad & Quill and Waterfield.
I see lots of people who seem irritated by these headphones. But why? There are so many other excellent options out there (including by Apple/Beats). Surely you can find something to like, rather than spend time hating on these ones?
I wonder how many people who hate the AirPods Max have actually tried them. I don't plan to — the Apple Store here isn't open for walk-ins — but I'm afraid I might be tempted. I've spent far more than $550 on headphones and not regretted it, but given how many people can't afford to feed themselves these days I'd rather donate the money.

For myself, I don't buy headphones often. I've got an old set of Seenheiser cans that work just as they did when I bought them. They're wired though. I really like the convenience of the smaller buds on airpods... but over time there's a concern. I'm now three years in getting very poor battery performance. On Airpod Max, something that costs 3x, please give me a convenient and affordable way to change a battery. Battery replacement for a Sony WH-1000XM4 is $30.

So what should one expect from the AirPods Max? Am I to assume that my AirPods Pro are better than the Max ... since sometime in the past "pro" meant "better"? Should I wait for Airpods Max Pro? I don't mean to dig but these pro, max, etc. mean less and less what they once used to.

Thanks for answering. I’ve been wondering about this, and haven’t seen any clear explanations like this before👍

Been doing some research on Bluetooth headsets lately and seen people complain about latency on video. But I guess producers of devices and services are aware now that more and more people are transitioning to wireless so they do as you explained and build in mechanisms for syncing video and audio.

...but if low latency isn’t a bigger advantage on the APM I’ll go for the XM4 instead🙄 And then probably get APM when it’s “matured” a couple of generations. Bluetooth 5.2 seems nice...
Depends on the source ... youtube definitely delay the video, Netflix on my iPad or iPhone is perfectly in sync if I use a bluetooth speaker or headphones. But other folk have said Netflix is outta sync from their tv - I guess it depends on the device.

I saw a review (snazzylab) that says bluetooth creates a delay so using them for editing sound tracks isn't ideal. He did say if you purchase the $35 lightning to 3.5mm cable Apple sells for people who need a wired connection it reduces the delay to an almost imperceptible level. The cable has a built in DAC which gets rid of the delay. His video review explains it much better than I can...

Impossible! They’re total ripoffs and nobody will want them. Haven’t you been reading MacRumors forums?
They'll never sell, too expensive, first gen, too heavy, uncomfortable, parts cost too much, not lossless, gonna sound horrible, AAC, I fly all the time, Bose are amazing, Sony are amazing, I cant afford Apple products, I hate Tim Cook, this is gonna suck, the case is stupid, I don't charge my headphones for 6 months, it won't work, non audiophile, actual audiophile ... rar, rar, rar ...and so on

To be fair, the case is stupid.

Not gonna disagree.. but I don't think I've ever used the stock case for any product I've bought. The mavic mini case was close to getting some use, but I had a Lowepro that was more ideal.

I certainly wouldn't factor the case into the equation when I'm buying headphones, no matter what the brand was. It's just a free accessory.

What if its fact ,and every nay-sayer's opinion is their opinion ? ... hmmm

Yesssss. All those that think the Airpod Max are the greatest wireless headphones ever created are stating fact. Anyone who disagrees is simply offering opinion. I like it.
