It’s doing my head in! I just want it fixed haha. I’m sitting here at work and as I’m typing this a girl walked past me clicking her tongue randomly and my head spun around! This clicking is going to haunt my dreams!

1) Has anyone reproduced this on iOS 11 on an older device? That way we can figure out if it is related to iOS or to the combination of iOS+iPhone 8/Plus.
2) Seems like everybody with iPhone 8 or 8 Plus is affected. Are there any reports of people who is not affected?

To summarize: this manifests on calls (voice or wi-fi), only by using the earpiece, with every carrier on both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It does not happen while listening to music, voicemail, etc through the earpiece. Triggering the speaker can turn this effect on and off. In never manifests through the speaker or headphones. Hard reset and firmware restore do not make the issue go away.

Worst case scenario: if it is hardware (which I think is unlikely), there is a consistent way to "fix" it, which means the developers can introduce a software "workaround" to patch the problem, even if the root cause is in hardware.

I would rather they fix the problem for sure than patch it

If it is a software problem, it can be fixed. If it is a hardware problem (which is unlikely, but possible), it can only be fixed by recalling the devices. Instead, they could introduce a software patch that "masks" the problem, so the hardware would still be affected, but for the end user the problem will go away.

No thanks. For the money I spent. I want it right the way it's suppose to be.

So the new phones have been out only 3 days and yet they have acknowledged they know of a problem and are looking into it - is that apple withholding knowledge?
IMO they damn sure are about Butterfly keyboards..
[doublepost=1506315420][/doublepost]Issue on Plus & non-Plus sign it isn’t hardware? I don’t know enough about similar parts in both phones.
[doublepost=1506315841][/doublepost]The similar threads at end of this one are interesting.

I'm going to watch the X.

If problems like this can arise in an established iPhone format, I’d personally be more concerned about the likelihood of issues after a total redesign.

I chose evolution not revolution for this product cycle at least and agree software seems more likely than hardware. I did exchange my handset as live close to an Apple Store. The new one also shares the crackling issue.

Apart from that annoying issue, the phone itself is great. I hope it gets resolved soon and have also reported it via the provided link to assist Apple.

Extensive testing with voicemail shows that it seems completely random except that toggling the speaker always introduces the problem and toggling it again (during a single call) randomly cures it too. So as others have said, there is definitely a link with the speaker phone.

Hi everyone. This is my first message in macrumors.

I noticed the crackling, intermitent crispy noise inside the earpiece of my silver iPhone 8 256 GB since the first day (sept 22), both during audio facetime and cellular calls, randomly, (say half of the calls).

Today, after reading this post, as soon as I noticed the noise during a call I switched on and off the speaker to see if it worked and the noise was gone, not there anymore during that call.

So it seems that the on/off speaker trick actually works, therefore I conclude it's a strictly software issue.

Hopefully Apple is aware and can solve it by an iOS 11 update or something.

Is anyone else experiencing a crackling static noise from the earpiece during facetime or cellular calls? Strange thing is this noise happens randomly, roughly 1 in 3 calls. This is happening on iphone 8 plus.

bought in NL, same issue....

I've contacted Apple support this morning and the technician told me something new: he was having difficulties in hearing what i was saying and we ended speaking throught another phone (my office number).

Since then i've already restored my phone with store definitions and both problems remain, that means i'll ask for a substitution. Usually i'm very comprehensive but there can't be such problems with a premium equipment like this one. My Iphone 6S was working perfectly, i can't keep this one this way.

I have a question. How many of you have fb on your phone? I saw a post about the iPhone 6 static noise and one user said to uninstall fb. But no one responded after him to acknowledge if that fixed the issue. Not saying I believe there is a connection or this is a solution. Just mentioning one one user posted.

I don't have the Facebook app and still getting the static sound.

I also have an iPhone 8 that I’m returning due to a screen issue and it’s exactly the same. Seems very widespread albeit intermittent and seemingly random apart from the speaker phone toggle. And carrier agnostic - I’ve tried two different carriers.

Some Minutes ago i had contact with Apple again, they go the easy Way and the "Apple Specialist" told me again, they never heard about that Problem. They told me i should return my iPhone and get my Money back and my Problem is solved.

At the Beginning of the Call i had this Crackling Sound, i switched to the Loudspeaker for 10 Seconds and back and everything was fine for the rest of the Call. So i also think its a Software Bug. Switching Voice over LTE off did not fix my Problem, this was the first what i tested on Friday.

We need macrumors to post this on the front page (given this is a widespread issue) to get apple’s attention. Otherwise they will keep playing the denial game.

Can anyone report it? I've already called apple several times, but they do not seem to be giving any special importance to the thing ...

When I call apple, ginius argues that there is currently no official communication from Apple about the problem ...

I am experiencing the same on my iPhone 6s since I installed iOS 11.
