I have not experienced myself, but for what it's worth, I always do a full wipe and restore before ever using the phone right out of the box. Is it crazy? Probably. Perhaps this is why I didn't experience this.

Direct from Apple's website. Yes, that is the correct solution.

After doing a hard reset the static went away

To do a hard reset click volume up then down, then hold the power button until it resets
It comes back, given that it doesn’t happen every single time. It is random in nature but I get it at least 1/3 of the time.

It sort of is! You just need to hold the power button, on the top right side of the iPhone 8 plus, but for a few seconds!

I had a lot of static as I called Vodafone yesterday, arranging the porting of my number, but in another call to my wife it was crystal clear. I put the initial crackling down o the cheap headsets they use in the Mumbai call-centres!
Is this like short term fix? Or is this problem just happens randomly?

Mine is not just during the call. A light squeeze on the ear piece on the screen and the back there is a creaking noise. Anyone experiencing the same? I am taking it back to Apple. Hopefully this is not a wide spread problem.

No I don’t hear that... I’m giving it some time. Have not heard since reset

I have the same issue :( iPhone 8 Plus (US)

Update:

looks like a hard reset did the trick. Will observe further.

I usually dont make calls, but i dont want a faulty device either, so i called my sister to test the quality, and it all sounds good to me, but that was just 1 try.

8+ Experiencing this as well. A hard reset did NOT seem to make a difference. I will give it some time to see if an update fixes the issue.
[doublepost=1506130302][/doublepost]Odd that it doesn’t happen on speaker though.

8+ here. 256 gb.
I’m experiencing this as well. It’s not loud but it’s annoying. Hopefully it will go away. I’m in the Bay Area. Is the only way to fix this a hard reset?

Is anyone else experiencing a crackling static noise from the earpiece during facetime or cellular calls? Strange thing is this noise happens randomly, roughly 1 in 3 calls. This is happening on iphone 8 plus.

I am experiencing this. It is a high-pitched crackle like an audio pop that happens in the earpiece top speaker intermittently during calls. Some calls are fine and others crackle. It is not audible on earphones or on speakerphone, only through the earpiece. The caller on the other end doesn’t hear it.

I don’t know whether this is hardware or software related, but one thing that made me think it’s software related is that if you switch on to speakerphone for a few seconds then back to earpiece, the crackles resolve for the duration of the rest of the call. If this was a hardware issue with the earpiece, doing this shouldn’t make a difference.

Also getting it, almost like a ticking noise. UK 8+, hard reset not fixing it. Guess it’s back to Carphone Warehouse

Spoke to Apple this morning. It’s not something the local team is aware of as an issue yet, and this is the only emerging thread I can find on the internet so far. They have advised restoring the phone to factory settings and setting up again via iCloud backup. I’m giving it a go now for you guys and will report back.

That seemed to work for me but I haven’t made many calls since doing it. My closest Apple store is 1.5 hours away so I really hope it works. I doubt apple will mail me a replacement? Plus I don’t really wanna go through the hassle.

Hi!
Sorry for my bad English, i hope you can understand a little bit ... i have the same Problem here in Germany with a space grey iPhone 8 32 GB. I checked the Problem with the Crackling directly but in the first Moment i thought, the Telephone from my Client is bad. But then i noticed its a permanently Problem and i contacted Apple.

The Women there told me, they never heard about the Problem and then they want to sell me the Story, its because of the Weather she also has this Problem with a iPhone 7. But they offered me, that Apple will contact me 12 hours later.

So today i talked to a Supporter again, he also told me he never heard about that Problem and then he asked some Specialists at Apple with the conclusion that nobody ever had this Problem. It rembers me on VW and Audi, every Problem i had there is a sad isolated incident which only i had.

I told the Supporter that i restored my iPhone to factory settings, the first hours i had no Problems but after some hours the Problem was again there. Then the Support told me to check, if the Problem is my Backup, but the Problem is also there if i use a clean new iPhone without personal Userdata, without using a Backup.

I tried everything, resetting Network Settings also the global Settings, but nothing worked, its in all Networks from 2G, 3G and 4G LTE.

So now i had the chance that the Aftersales Team will change my iPhone into a new one, but like i understand the Supporter i must send them the old one and after that i get a new one. I also think i will have same Problem again after the Exchange like it was at the Antenna-Gate with the robotic Voice.

Doesn't work. It summons the SOS screen.
In another post someone said:
  1. Press and release Volume Up
  2. Press and release Volume Down
  3. Hold Power until Apple logo appears
But I can't make it work

This is actually the procedure. However when I tried it it didn’t work right away and I had to do it a few times. I think you have to press the volume up button and then down button quickly followed by the power button hold and then you should see the Apple logo. Give it a few tries. On the iPhone 7 or iPad Pro second version it’s the old way.

Yes good point. Turning the speakerphone on then off seems to make it go away for that call. Guess that is one way to go about it until next upgrade. I wonder if a software update will fix it.

Same issue here with my 8+ on GiffGaff. Toggling speakerphone also resolves it for me, so hopefully, a software update will deal with it.
