I know you're being snarky, but the important thing to remember is that the Mini is supposed to fit in one hand, and the iPhone 5 is supposed to be operable with one hand.

Crucial difference no?

"But it became clear that we had to reduce the width of the borders so you can still pick it up and easily use it with one hand..."

I think you are being too literal. When Apple refers to wanting users to be able to more easily operate it with one hand, it is with the understanding that they do not mean for all tasks all the time. You would have to be Andre the Giant or Shaquille O'Neal to be able to use the iPad mini with a single hand for most/all tasks, and even they might struggle with some things in the far corners.

I think the general interpretation of this design cue for one handed use is for specific things such as, scrolling through a webpage, or turning pages of a book while reading. They obviously do not think anyone can go completely one handed like an iPhone.

Apple never mentioned shortage of A6 processors and neither did Samsung. If I'm missing something, share the source to back your claim. The shortage of iPhone 5 is due to screen and the fact that it's difficult to manufacture since anodized aluminium is prone to scratches. The shortage might also be due Qualcomm LTE chip. Here's the links I previously posted-

Your first example says screens which is over a month old and makes no sense now (if it ever did) given they are taking a bunch of those screens and putting them on the iPod Touches. If they had a shortage they would be using the screens for the iPhone 5s, there is a lot more profit in those boxes, rather then shipping all those iPod touches.

Your second example says the aluminum cases are getting scratched during assembly, that is a fairly easily fixed issue and should have been resolved now and not expected to continue to impact iPhone 5 production. That is not really a part constraint issue.

Your third example is the phone is hard to assemble, even if true, its not a part constraint issue.

is one of many sources talking about 32nm issues with regard to Apple and the A6, though this article does also point to the TMSC issues with Qualcomm parts, which is probably the source of the Qualcomm part rumors, and they could be having issues with them, if Apple is using a 32nm Qualcomm part.

Where does the article talk about shortage of A6 or 32nm samsung SoCs?

iphone 5 screen vs iphone 4s was minimal, yes it was an improvement but it wasn't much bigger with a much higher resolution and therefore didn't need that much more power, the retina ipad screen is a totally different screen to the non retina, it requires a lot more power! The new iPad has a battery ~60% larger than the iPad 2!!

60% larger!? and that gets you the same amount of run time?

Wow I guess I did have it all wrong. I really thought with a much smaller processor and better screen tech power was saved left right and centre.

Now that the nexus 4 has been announced for a good price in the uk, i'm note sure where to spend my money first

Will have to go see the mini in store sometime next week.

You misunderstood me.

I'm saying that the new iPad's battery is 60% larger than the iPad 2's. The iPad mini's battery is a few thousand mah smaller than the iPad 2's. Thus the mini is not going to be able to power that display for very long! Not until the new display tech is ready for mass production or better batteries come along.

OP, come back to this thread once you played with one at the store. :apple:

The iPad mini 2 will have retina, then the original iPad mini will sell for $229 … you just see

LOL at anyone who actually buys this obsolete item.
