And it still is cool looking.

Say, what about putting a touchpad/wheel like the mini has, only much smaller, in place of the four buttons and scroll wheel?

That would be very easy to use. Kewl!

OK Sushi you asked for it! Here it is with a click wheel

I like it, but what are the lines on the left? Is it just for grip? And it looks like the left bit could slide out and --- be a KEYPAD for a TELEPHONE!

We've found the iPhone!

1. It's 'dual' not 'duel.'

2. There is no dual-core anything available for the PowerBook right now. The dual-core e600 line won't sample until second half of 2005, meaning they won't ship until 2006. It's unlikely therefore that a Motorola dual-core cpu will make its debut with a PowerBook.

3. This is off-topic. There are current powerbook threads out there you can contribute to.

1) its a typo - get over it
2) im sorry I made a mistake ... i dont spend my entire life reading up on these things. Just because I'm not some uber-geek who thinks he knows "everything" it doesnt mean you have to jump on me with you claws out.
3) actually, people were talking about the powerbook rumor on www.appleinsider.com...

Its pathetic that the only way you can make yourself feel better is to lay into people on a forum - get a life.

IPOD RADIO FEATURE

While watching TV today I stumbled upon a celebrity TV show interviewing Lindsey Lohan's little sister. They had asked her what she had been doing recently. She said that she had just done a commercial for a radio iPod. Since children often don't think about what comes out of their mouths "she is 13" I believe it to be truthful.
My bet is that not only will the mini offer greater flash memory but expect it to also offer a radio function.

Lindsey Lohan's sister spills the beans

ThinkSecret reports confirmation that Apple will introduce a flash-based iPod at Macworld Expo next week.

The new iPod will reportedly come in 1GB and 2GB versions according to the rumor site based on Samsung 1GB flash modules and will start at $149.

ThinkSecret reports that the Flash iPods are being built by Asustek as previously rumored.

Flash iPod rumors and speculation have been circulating since the introduction of the original iPod.

...line on the left is where the lid comes off and you find a USB plug. Perhaps if it were dock based you wouldn't have this but I have not progressed to that stage.

OK will fool around with some colours.... :)

Lohan Little Sister to be sued by Appple?

Just saw Access Hollywood (I was just channel-surfing, I SWEAR!!!) and they asked Lindsey Lohan's little sister what she was up to...

"I just did a commercial for a new... Radio iPod"

The way she answered it made it seem like she wasn't sure if it was an iPod... She may have just called it that the way people call tissues Kleenex.

If she gets sued by Apple, though, we'll know it to be true...

nice design but i'm not crazy about the "cap" on top.
Understand your point.

If the iPod Flash is to be used strickly for music/recording/FM radio then I would agree.

On the other hand, if the iPod Flash is to be used as a flash drive as well, then it is nice to have the USB connector built in. Otherwise, you have to carry a cable or have a dock.

These comments are based on the belief that Apple will use USB as the interface over FW.

If Apple uses FW, then I would agree that a dock would be better. And hopefully, the dimensions would support the current dock connector (not dock but the connector part) so that existing cables would work.

I guess it all depends on the concept of how the iPod Flash would fit into the iPod family.

Incredible job...

3 small problems:
- What is the cap at the top... It looks sort of wierd
- Screen too small
- Unpractical to hold.. would have to hold at the end with fingertips..

This would be huge...it clearly appeared on TV, but besides the two posts in this thread, noone seems to be talking about it. The only exception would be MOSR, who has posted an article on it: http://macosrumors.com/20050107A.php . Maybe someone's got it taped or something and can post it online.

The flash ipod looks great but what would be the expected battery life of this thing?

I get about 14 hours with my 2 year old MP3 player. [Edit: Changed version to MP3 player]

http://www.rioaudio.jp/product/su30/

I can recharge it via USB when connected to the computer, or by the power adapter, which BTW, has a USB plug. Very nice.

Newer models like the iAudio U2 get 20 hours.

So I would expect that Apple's iPod Flash would get somewhere between 15-20 hours if using a rechargeable battery solution.

1. Cap covers the USB connector. This is very convenient if you plan on using your iPod Flash as a USB Thumb Drive. Just pop the cap and connect to the computer. Other models without the USB connector require a cable. Bottom line, it depends on what the purpose of the device is. If it is to be a USB Thumb Drive, then I would say that this design makes perfect sense otherwise you would have to carry an extra cable. If however, this device will be FW, then no need for the cap and USB connector. My guess if Apple goes with the FW solution, that it will have the same connector as the current iPods. That way, all existing cables will work.

2. Not really. Granted a two line display is limited. However, after having tried a two line display MP3 player, I would say that for a small flash based player two lines is enough. Also, Apple may use a smaller font size getting 4 or 5 lines where you normally would have 3 as in this example as some of the other manufactures do now.

3. Not so bad. Tried the iAudio U2 which is very similar. Easy to use on handed believe it or not. So I don't see this as a major problem. In fact, if Apple doesn't deliver, the iAudio U2 or G3 will be my next flash player. Right now I am leaning towards the G3 because it has the replaceable battery and 50 hour battery life which will be great on ski trips.
