I suggest making it a headpiece, no dangly bits, cept maybe for the remote. It would be very unobtrusive that way, unless you require the use of your ears and the surrounding area.

Similar to that thing but with Apple flair. There is more than enough room to incorporate the new HD and longer lasting batteries I think. In fact, you could put them in opposing positions to provide balance. As done here it appears. The Japanese are rather good at design, not something you hear often though.

and how long do u think it will take for the new "flash ipod to ship" ....
Even better why pay $150 for 1 gig when for another $100 i could get 4 Gigs.. (as of now)
For 1 gig i can get about 250 songs at $150 where as the mini i could get about 1,000 for 100 bucks more... gig for gig... the mini seems logical...(as of now)
I think the pricing is to high/wrong maybe for $100 dollars for the 1 Gb and 150 for the 2gb.(but then again apple products are expensive)

I think the product will sell, some/most don't need to have more then 1/2 gig (250 songs) to be happy. Plus they can say "I have an ipod" and use ITMS

By that same logic, you could say that @ the mini, why not spend an extra $50 and get 5x the space? Hey, at that point... why not an extra $100 and double even THAT!

My apologies for using the product of a competitor. But I laugh at the fact Sony clings to the Minidisc. The product example I used isn't really a competitor anyway. But the iPod would benefit from having a radio option IMO.

I disagree... I tried my life away to talk my friend into getting an iPod Mini, but he decided to spend half as much and get some POS RCA 256MB player...

$150 for 1GB, or $250 for 4GB.. people will buy the $150 because they can't justify the extra $100 even though it's a better deal

*shrugs* If you are going to go down make sure you are flipping te bird to "the man" while you are doing it. Good for them. Too bad they don't have any inside info on OS 11 to release.

There definately is a market for it. However, if it were $99 I think it would put a lot of other competitors out of business for good. I think $99 is too little right now but that would be sweet.

Apple's iPod line is getting a little too diverse. Consumers will start to get confused:

iPod flash 1GB
iPod flash 2GB

iPod mini 4GB

iPod 20GB
iPod 40GB

iPod photo 40GB
iPod photo 60GB
---

I think they should get rid of the iPod and reduce the price of the iPod photo; it will continue to be the high end model. The iPod mini should get a bigger hard drive and become the mid-level model. The iPod flash can be the low-end model.
Correction: the Minis are moving to 5GB.

And don't forget to add the iPod Video 80GB, in a year from now!

Well, I'm excited! A screen. And 1-2 GB. Good. Pricing seems ok, too. I hope that this will be true.
Might get one to replace my flashdrive and listen to some music when I don't have the iPod with me.

name game

i'm sure once the 80gb drives hit the market, which i think i read 3rd, 4th quarter? apple will launch an ipod video of some kind. by then i'm sure we can assume they'll drop either the solo ipod name or the ipod photo name and combine them all into either JUST ipod again or ipod video. cuz why would they have a video ipod that wouldn't support photos or have a title like ipod photo + video? that's just what to much title for one product.

but i'm certain the ipod's name "ipod" will always come before the sub name like "photo" or "mini". it's all about branding like "pepsi vanilla" or "pepsi twist". they would never switch the name. it's that way for everything.

Nice but for $100 more you could can get a new mini with ten gigs (if the rumors are true) but i guess it will be good for gym/joggeres

Yes, "but" $100 is a lot of money for some people who can barely afford an iPod Mini, and could only dream on spending $300 on a regular iPod. Some kids may want this because they want an mp3 player, know how well Apple is associated with all things involving digital music, and buy it because of style and because it's what they need and can afford.

Anyway, $150 isn't a horrible price. I just hope it's much much smaller than a Mini. If the screen is only 2 lines shorter, I hope they don't include the Click Wheel, because it'll have to be a lot smaller for me to consider a Flash-pod (like the name?) even though I do jog a lot.

EDIT: THe prices are cheaper than the iRiver players for the same memory. :)

EDIT 2: Maybe ThinkSecret figures that they're already f***ed anyway, so one more bit of info won't get them a larger punishment or fine.

Think Secret has balls of steel.

They're not too smart, that's for sure. But they certainly are fearless.

ThinkSecret are really pushing it this time...

Unless they WANT to be sued? (for whatever strange reason)

What will they call this? The iPod Micro?

We'll have a lineup like this:

iPod Micro, iPod Mini, iPod. Kinda weird...

Or maybe just iPod Flash? Or FlashPod?

I still predict "iPod micro", since the first one was "iPod" and the 2nd, smaller one was "iPod mini". After mini comes micro. Kind of obvious.

I don't see Apple naming their iPod according to the technology used. You don't see them calling it "iPod HardDrive", do you? :D

If it's 150$US for 1GB and 200$US for 2GB, Apple has almost all other players beaten into a pulp... Check MP3 flash players prices, you'll be surprised. I keep seeing 128 and 256MB players for almost 200$CAN.

Wow, pretty gutsy of them considering Apple is suing them for everything else. Well, they're already in trouble... why not go for broke.

Yeah. If you know yer screwed and have nothing/nothing more to lose why not pull out all the stops.

Lethal

P.S. I hate all this "iPod talk" 'cause I still can't afford one. :(

Consider This...

Consider this - (1) Think Secret certainly has the best record when it comes to accurately predicting the Apple roadmap. Obviously, they have a contact pretty high up in the orgainzation. As was mentioned before, this is a pretty risky strategy for an Apple employee considering there is virtually no reward for providing this information (unless this person can provide the information with impunity for some reason) (2) Apple announces a lawsuit yet Think Secret still posts new (and probably accurate) rumors of the flash iPod.
Now, to my mind, this means either (1) Think Secret has solid steel shperical components, or (2) all of this is initiated by Apple to stir up a frenzy ahead of MWExpo (hence the employee's ability to provide info with impunity).
In addition, MacRumors may be safe as they generally attibute many of their rumors to other sites. This not only gives credit where credit is due but insulates them somewhat from this type of legal action.
Just a thought... Perhaps we need to consult Oliver Stone.
Viva la Rumor Sites!!!

This rumor is apparently the Think Secret equivalent of saying "Bring it on!" to Apple. :)

Nick dePlume must be either very dedicated and/or very foolish to go up against Apple like this. Maybe he should change his nom de plume to a nom de guerre: Nick de la Mancha.*

IIRC, Steve pretty much trashed flash players when the iPod first came out, so I'm not too sure about these persistent iPod flash rumors. But it wouldn't be the first time he's changed his thinking on something.

* Note: I am a huge Don Quixote fan, so this is not meant as an insult, just as a (perhaps feeble) attempt at wordplay.

If both the "1GB iPod micro for 149$US" and "headless eMac for 499$US" rumors are true, it really is a sign that Apple is finally trying to sell their stuff to everyone (i.e. people who can't spend a month of rent for a music player or 6 months of rent on a computer)

Go Apple!

They'll open a new website called "thinkphoenix". ;)

That name has a nice ring to it. :)

And it shall be called "iPod mini me" :)

That is not bad pricing at all, maybe in a year or less they will have a 4GB flash model. :)

Hook this up to your digital camera and you are in business. :)

I wonder what battery life will be and the size, maybe a matchbox size. :)

Steve never trashed flash players based on the technology, but on their capacity. He was right when he said that 64-256MB players are pretty useless.

IMO however Apple won't have two models of iPod micro. I don't believe it because their iPod mini has only one size: 4GB.

I predict it's gonna be a 1GB iPod micro for 149$US (because I said that, of course, it'll be 179$US).

Unless ThinkSecret had information from an insider again, in which case I wonder what they'll do with the mini (4GB and 5GB models? Not much difference if you ask me).
