if they release the source code, then I load it on my iPad using provisioning, will that work I wonder? The reason I ask is not that I am interested in the app, just if it will work that way. Also, whats the difference what data I send over my phone? I have unlimited, so what difference does it make what device it originates from?? Not allowing tethering is so... Apple, er, Adobe. Uh, no, Apple.

so.. tethering iPhone4 to my iPad any1?

I am with my unjailbroke 3gs on 4.0.1 using this app, however, it's dirty.
- start the adhoc network on my mac and get my mac working on the proxy as per the youtube video.
- setup a http webserver on the mac (or locally on the ipad if you can) and serve a file titled socks.pac with the following contents:

function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {
return "SOCKS 13.37.13.37:1337";
}

connect the ipad to the adhoc network and set the proxy to auto (on the ipad) and the url is going to be the url of the MAC which serves socks.pac :)

Woot, got it just in time. Hope they don't killswitch it.

Note that if you already are on a home WiFi like I am, you don't need to set up an ad-hoc. Just change your IE/Firefox settings to use the SOCKS proxy with the IP of the phone (whatever your router assigned it) and port 1337 and it works. I only plan on using it if my cable internet is out, since I don't have a laptop.

anyone else try this?

Windows / Firefox

I just remembered...In the past I used the Foxy-Proxy plugin in Firefox to get Netshare to work.

You can also use the proxy by connecting the iphone to a regular wifi access point. Nothing magical about the ad-hoc network or that strange ip address... Just set the socks proxy in the browser config to the current wifi ip address of the iphone on port 1337. You may have to set the iphone ip to be static, with a blank default gateway/router ip so that the proxied traffic will go out the 3g connection rather than any existing internet link available on the access point however. :)

1. Create network on mac, call it anything
2. Select that network on iPhone, then apply IP of 13.37.13.37 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 then back out of iPhone settings.
3. Return to network settings on mac, turn on SOCKS proxy and enter 13.37.13.37 : 1337, then apply settings.
4. Return to iPhone, fire up app, make the screen purple
5. Return to mac and try out the Internet

Step number 2 may be incorrect. Submaskshould be the same as what's been st up in wirlesssettings in Airport Utility Map app . Cliock the TCPIP tab agnd use that nunnber (submiask) and use this in the iphone port settings.

I'm on ambien so not sure if this makes snese.

Anyone have any idea how I can get it back if I deleted it off my phone and didn't transfer it to my Mac? Don't ask me why. I have know idea why I did it.

I believe it is gone forever. What were you thinking?

I hope you at least gave it 5 starts before you deleted it.

No plugins necessary. In Firefox type in "about:config" into the address bar to get to the advanced settings and change "network.proxy.socks_remote_dns" to TRUE. This allows DNS lookup queries to be forwarded to the SOCKS proxy server.

When I create a new network it doesn't save, so i have to create a new one every time I want to use the tethering. How can I make the new network stay as an option all the time?

I was afraid of that. I have no idea what I was thinking. And no, I didn't rate it at all. Wow. I cannot believe I did that. Why did I do that?

I'm on ambien to, waiting to pass out. #2 is correct as I followed the video and it worked for me. I'm no network expert but it worked.

So wait did you accidently delete it somehow...or did you suddenly just say "I don't think I want this anymore" and then regret it....I could maybe see the first one somehow, but the 2nd is a bit odd.

I spent 15 minutes wondering what I was doing wrong when I felt like the biggest idiot of life. If you enter those settings in your mac they will apply to Safari, NOT FIREFOX OR CHROME ETC... Like an idiot it didn't hit me until I saw someone posted the Firefox settings. Sure you can do it on Firefox but if your following the video it is meant to work on Safari.

What make you so sure, Since when did Apple follow any "LOGIC" when it concerns their IP or Rules for Developers. That are Enforceable and with all the Hype over how safe it is in the App store, I really would Not be so sure in saying it won't Happen.

It's Just like Apple to Make a Perfect Example out of this Kid or his mother, But more to the Fact if you look at the Device Page on iTunes His Suppose Mother.

The Sellers Name is listed as "Laura Lee" 9 times out of 10 She is a Adult and that is who apple Will go after.

Since a 15 year old by law can't have a "developers contract" or Legally enter into a contract it must be entered into by a adult, and now you know the rest of the story.

Laura Lee is listed as the Seller / Nick is listed as the developer... Mommy is in trouble and what wrath will little Nick be put through OHHH MYYYY...

THE WRATH OF MOMMY "Vengeance is a BUMMER" ;-)

Well that solves the contract question.

I'd hate to be that kid, come Christmas.

I still don't think they'd actually sue. Imagine the headlines, "Apple sues 15 year old developer."

As someone else already reported in this thread, the app will deliver a proxy pac config file when you hit http://13.37.13.37:8080 from a web browser when you're connected via the ad hoc WiFi network. Here's the contents:

Code:
function FindProxyForURL(url,host) { return "SOCKS 13.37.13.37:8888"; }

Doubt it would work setting http://13.37.13.37:8080 as the auto proxy config URL since it returns the correct IP but the wrong port for the SOCKS proxy server. Looks like the dev didn't spend too much time messing with that part of the proxy code.

I Do agree with you, most likely you are correct they won't, But man sure sucks to be him Right. ;-)
