It hadn't occurred to me that APIs for tethering or similar functionality were accessible. Given this, it's more cost effective to be a registered iPhone developer than it is to add tethering to your account provided you have the know how to get it compiled and set up.

de-select proxy

I've done this already. Along with turning off and on airport and rebooting. Remember that I can't connect to it on my iPhone as well. Obviously I am able to connect to the net work on other devices though because I wouldn't be able to reply to you otherwise.

Edge?

Does anyone know if this will work with an Edge connection?

Also, if anyone is having trouble finding the SOCKS proxy settings in Windows 7, go to Internet Options, Connections Tab, LAN Settings, check the box beside "Use a proxy server for your LAN," click Advanced, uncheck the box beside "Use the same proxy server for all protocols," and then enter in the correct address and port number for the socks proxy. Hope that helps!

I hope he enjoys his 15 minutes of fame before he realizes that he now wont be able to get into any good colleges. Not that it matters since his college fund will all go to Apple and legal fees.

There's a good chance Apple will kill the app since it's intent is to illegally steal service from AT&T (bitch all you want but thats the legal situation). Now in that case everyone that bought it will have their money refunded from his developer account. Of course Apple keeps its 30% so he will be on the hook 30% of the sales out of his own pocket plus there is a strong chance Apple will sue his ass for the stunt.

A few points to correct you.

He will get into college. Likely, it will be a good school. Stanford and MIT love students who make waves and "Think Different." Come to think of it, that reminds of a company I once knew...

Apple won't sue a 15 year old. Terrible PR, at a time when PR is hurting Apple.

How is a 15 year old a registered developer? You need to be 18 to enter into legal contracts.

No one is "stealing" from ATT. One could make a very strong argument that people are simply using the service, for which all dues are paid. At the most, it violates ATT's Terms of Service. The legality of those terms of service is still in question. (See: Net Neutrality)

In sum, don't accused people are stealing. It's an RIAA trick to ramp up the rhetoric.

100% correct.
Remember what Ben Franklin said.... it is your duty to disobey laws which are unjust.

i am 100% positive chrome is working, i dont no how but it is

Well look at that, Chrome does work. The settings change in Firefox that I listed in my instructions is not required to get Chrome to work. Seems that Chrome will forward the DNS lookup query through the SOCKS proxy by default. So as it stands now, you can get Firefox Chrome and Safari working under Windows 7 (Vista and XP I'm sure as well) with this app. IE still looks like it's out of luck (but I doubt many want to use IE). Gonna update my original instructions accordingly. Thanks for catching this!

+1 but I'm on AT&T. My airport light is yellow instead of green after changing SOCKS Proxy settings. Any advice?

1. Create network on mac, call it anything
2. Select that network on iPhone, then apply IP of 13.37.13.37 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 then back out of iPhone settings.
3. Return to network settings on mac, turn on SOCKS proxy and enter 13.37.13.37 : 1337, then apply settings.
4. Return to iPhone, fire up app, make the screen purple
5. Return to mac and try out the Internet

Ok here's the deal. I did this and I got connected fine. The thing is, now that I'm trying to connect back to my wifi network, it won't let me. I erased all re settings I put in on both the Mac and iPhone setting the tethering up. However when I try to connect to my network on my iPhone, it says the password is incorrect. I made sure it was correct. I tried a hard reset. No luck. Now for my Mac. When I try to connect on my Mac, it takes a while to find the ip address and when it can't find one it self assigns it therefore not connecting to the Internet. I tried resetting the computer and the airport card. No luck with that either. Anyone encountering this problem? If so, do u have a fix? Thanks.

Use the "location" feature in the network preference to have one just for tethering. makes it a lot easier to switch between the two.

Still not working for me

Any ideas how to get around having a self-assigned IP address? I keep getting the response: AirPort has the self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet. I'm a networking newbie and am still unable to use this app. Perhaps Parallels is conflicting with it since the Networking Adapters have the same subnet address as the app. I have tried using Safari rather than Firefox and still no luck. Augh!!

Chrome in Windows Vista

I'm using Chrome in Vista via the tether as I type this, so yes, it works.

Chrome and Safari both use the same base code, so either should work fine once you have this set up correctly (read: once you've set up the wireless adapter properly).

My speeds aren't spectacular (in comparison to my home connection) - I'm seeing about 3mbps down x 256kbps up.

It contains your name and iTunes account. Furthermore, the application is encrypted to your itunes account and will not work for anyone else unless they sign in with your account and password.

can you do this and then keep the file working forever without having to resign in and stuff?

Only if you want that other person's iphone to be always tied to your account. This includes movies, TV shows, all other apps, songs, and in app purchases.

I just found and downloaded the cracked IPA, any chance I can get this on my iphone (non jailbroken)??

No, the binary becomes unsigned and the entire bundle becomes unsigned.

If you are a registered developer (with paid subscription), it is possible to resign an app.

Anyone have any idea how I can get it back if I deleted it off my phone and didn't transfer it to my Mac? Don't ask me why. I have know idea why I did it.

What make you so sure, Since when did Apple follow any "LOGIC" when it concerns their IP or Rules for Developers. That are Enforceable and with all the Hype over how safe it is in the App store, I really would Not be so sure in saying it won't Happen.

It's Just like Apple to Make a Perfect Example out of this Kid or his mother, But more to the Fact if you look at the Device Page on iTunes His Suppose Mother.

The Sellers Name is listed as "Laura Lee" 9 times out of 10 She is a Adult and that is who apple Will go after.

Since a 15 year old by law can't have a "developers contract" or Legally enter into a contract it must be entered into by a adult, and now you know the rest of the story.

Laura Lee is listed as the Seller / Nick is listed as the developer... Mommy is in trouble and what wrath will little Nick be put through OHHH MYYYY...

THE WRATH OF MOMMY "Vengeance is a BUMMER" ;-)
