I’m looking into upgrading my 2013 mbp to get set up for when Flight Sim 2020 is released. Does anyone think the current 16’’ mbp with dedicated graphics will have trouble running modest settings?

It looks like it’s going to be a pretty graphically intensive game. Opinions?

worse case get a egpu with 5700xt.
I love my Razer Core X egpu, the thing is a beast, I have a RTX 2060 Super and it handles everything I throw at it. I may not run it every day, but I need the extra horsepower its there

HAHA i forgot you went native pc on us awhile back. hows windows 10 treating you
Not bad, stable and I'm enjoying having access to anything Steam has to offer, i.e., Tomb Raider was free this past weekend, so I installed it. Given my work, life is more efficient, as I VPN into the network and the apps I need are all windows based

With integrated graphics as well as the very slow 5400rpm disk, I think it could be a hard smart problem for your imac to run against games not just MSFS2020 but all games nowadays. It is better off finding a Windows laptop/desktop with a dedicated graphic card. This might free you from this.

I have the same question on the new FS 2020 coming out next month...

I have these computers to choose from to install FS 2020:
  • iMac 2013 base w/ TB2 SSD boot/startup (hate the horrifying slow spinning internal drive) 21.5"
  • Mac Mini server 2012 w/ dual SSD and 16GB RAM (connects to 27" TB display)
  • Macbook Pro 16" base also connects to a 27" TB display in dual display
  • Dell PC desktop w/ i5 8th gen, 16GB RAM, SSD, 24" Dell display

Which one would be the best PC vs Mac using Bootcamp and Windows 10 ?

Also, has anyone used the new Microsoft Thrustmaster TCA Airbus sidestick and controls?

Just watched the trailer...so cool! wonder if this will run smoothly on the 2020 MBP 13" with 10th Gen CPU?

It should run fine. I haven't had an issue running any modern game on my 16" with a 5500 and I'm sure the settings will be highly scaleable.

Didn't Apple release the 5600 HBM dGPU for the 16 incher? It's £800 smackers. You might get an external dGPU (5700XT!) via eGPU cheaper than that. And put £100 to bumping up the internal gpu to 5500M.

So you could use both the egpu and the 5500M to power the game?

And maybe still save £100 from the exorbitant cost of the 5600M?

You should check this video out. The benchmarks seem to indicate the 5600 is way better than a eGPU solution on the 16" MacBook Pro.

True. Because of the HBM...and the direct interface.

But I was wondering if the internal gpu and external egpu approach could work in tandem to give greater potential performance to save the internal gpu from working 'too hard' or marinate in its own heat.

The latest version of Windows 10 has an issue with eGPUs, especially AMD ones. Therefore you can only really go up to version 10 (1903) of Win10, for now. Microsoft is supposedly aware of this and trying to fix it, but it's been a good year and so far, nothing has come about.

I asked FS2020 support if 1903 would be supported, and they didn't give a very positive response.
"We can't guarantee that Microsoft Flight Simulator will run properly on Windows 10 1903. Thank you for your understanding."

I though fs2020 was not Mac compatible so wondering how people would be playing it ? Boot camp ?
i have xplane only right now on my Mac So curious to see how fs2020 compares.
I have windows 10 on VMware and saw a YouTube video with an egpu and boot camp running on an iMac and I’m on Mojave using my Mac Pro 5.1. Will have to investigate installing boot camp then on my Mac pro

It's only for Windows or XBOX.

I am planning on using BootCamp on my MBP but if it work due to thermal issues, I have a backup computer: Dell PC.

I just don't know if I can transfer out the software from the MBP to the Dell if I need to change over.
