Don’t even think you can play high end games in Bootcamp for longer than 10 min on a MBP....yes even with the 5600M....at least with the default blue drivers this is my experience playing on Med settings after 15 min or so.
This is AC ODYSSEY.....starts at 60 FPS then dips in the 20s.....pathetic experience....I’m very disappointed !

Yes, you are leaning me towards the PC setup.
Much as I love using the 16" MBP w/ 27" display for gaming in Bootcamp, I am now finding out that the demands of this game is too much.

So I am getting my new Dell i5 8th gen w/ 32GB RAM & dual 256GB SSD + Radeon RX460 w/ 4GB DDR + Dell Alienware 27" gaming monitor setup....
Your video card will need to be updated significantly. RX460 is pretty anemic these days.
Make sure whatever you upgrade to can: 1. Fit in the case 2. Your power supply has enough connectors and power to support it.

I think regarding AS you just need to look at iPad Pros and extrapolate from there. A lot of good performance at low power usage, which means lower power consumption and low excess heat.

But, when it comes to gaming titles expect the iPad and iPhone games to lead on AS versus PC titles. I think the ability to run IOS and iPadOS apps on AS Macs is a killer feature that does not get enough press.
I wouldn't bet on it. Majority of AAA gaming money is now being spent on PS5/Xbox One X which are x86 platforms. Even that, they've been lazy to port them over to PC Gaming which is much easier than going over to MacOS/iOS/Apple Silicon.
Why would devs spend time/resources on AS MacOS which will be initially a small percentage of the ~10% MacOS portion of the total PC market share for at least the next several years or more?

Right now, gaming on Macs is best accomplished in bootcamp not in MacOS. Which is going bye-bye
Expect mostly iOS ports like farming games, candy crush, and Fortnite (oops!) for AS unless there's a paradigm shift in gaming or Apple decides to codevelop AAA titles for AS. I guess you can call it a "killer feature" but I've had every ipad from ipad 1 to iPP 12.9 and I've been less than impressed with the quality of the available games with them all begging for money after 5 minutes into it.

Glad I decided against selling my current MBP 16 and forking an extra $2500 (basically price of new MBP 16 with 5600M less the price of what I can get for my current MBP 16). Sounds like throttling to me.
You can try getting numerous Windows 10 apps that can disable turboboost so you can dedicate more power to the GPU

I figured 4GB is all that will fit in the mid tower case without a power connector.
PSU is being updated to Gold 80 400W Dell gaming unit...

Why are you forced to use Dell's power supplies? Can't you use off the shelf PC power supplies?

Just finished loading 110GB of program size onto the SSD but can't launch the game.

It keeps getting stuck on Set your Experience:

Anyone know how to speak to a Microsoft support tech ???

I keep getting automated chats and redirects to other websites...

Sorry for the OT response, but I can’t believe the game is 110GB when I thought they made a point of requiring fast internet speeds due to streaming much of the data needed for the game...

It's a huge program - the basic $59 version is 90GB.
I ordered the Deluxe $119 version and it's 110GB.

As expected, Microsoft won't release a physical disc version in the US.

They are releasing a 10 discs DVD installer set for the UK/European market!

What GPU

What GPU do you have? I saw this below and maybe need to make sure your system is upto date from windows and gpu drivers.

Very helpful!
My Windows is current.

I will try downloading drivers for a Radeon RX460 4GB GDDR5 video card......

Thanks !

Guess what I found:

Wrong video card was inside the PC!

I bought a used 4GB RX460 card and it turned out after I installed the AMD Radeon software updater that it said it was a 2GB card.

Seller said - oops and return it.

Now waiting for a 6GB nVidia GTX 1660 Super that has a lower power draw to fit in my mini ATX PC.

The basic game is only 110GB. It’s the 2 Petabytes of digital mapping of the whole world, generated 3D scenery and real-time weather in the cloud that requires the internet connection and data streaming.

Funnily enough I remember one of the early YT reviewers showing that you actually got less throttling with the base model i7+5300 due to it generating less heat and that you would be better off with that for gaming given the actual nominal framerate difference between 5300 and 5500 is very small...and then throttling kicks in on the 5500.

Have you tried FS2020 with your MBP 16 ?

I haven't yet tried with mine because I am under the impression that the simulator pushes all hardware to the max....

Not yet, I am sure it will push it to the max as well. I am unlikely to play it a lot so haven't yet bought it.

so tried it today. Very sluggish, dropped resolution to 1080 and it worked fine. Played for quite a long time and didn’t get throttling. I haven’t played much more as I only have a mouse and keyboard and still getting used to controlling it. I find it quite frustrating so not sure how much time I’ll give it. Thank goodness for the xbox game pass trial!

Hello, I have a late 2013 ME086LL/A iMac.

Do you guys think it has a chance in playing MSFS 2020? I’m worried most about the video card and VRAM. Thanks very much!

I think any Mac GPU from that time will be hard-pressed to play it. My 2012 27” iMac (i7-3770 and with upgraded 2GB GTX 680MX GPU) will still be way under the minimum requirements.

I just installed a 6GB nVidia GTX 1660 OC Super card in my Dell PC and it works like a champ!

Next up will be the 16" MBP - Bootcamp test with 27" Thunderbolt display.....

FYI, there should be bug fix (it was in the developers blog) next week, it should help with install issues and simconnect lag (which is what third party add-one use to talk to flight sim.)
